    I criticised him before on this but now I think he has a point. The hand swings much less low to high indeed than the racket. That’s the whole point. And that’s because of the very important rotation of the arm resulting in windshield wiper action.

      @@naji465 .. you need to perfect your observational skills since the video title is demonstrably false - the racquet head must swing from low to high to produce topspin, which is what professional players do.

      @Chris_Sheridan Před 4 měsíci +1

      .. but coaches everywhere teach the position of the racquet head - not necessarily the hand and static demonstrations make that clear as well as slow-motion video analysis.

      Agree. Both racket head and hand swing low to high of course. Racket head does that more steeply. That’s all.

    Vincent, your communicative skills are excellent, and those of us who possess effective language skills including LISTENING understand exactly what you are conveying. Most people do not listen, and if they do, they do not comprehend. This is the reason why they misunderstand. They lack language skills.

      @@Chris_Sheridan @Chris_Sheridan you must have assumed for yourself the role as the greatest and most knowledgeable living judge and critic of all tennis coaches . This imperious attitude is exactly what contributes to mediocre levels of knowledge and expertise , two factors that continue to stifle creative and innovative approaches to teaching effective tennis skills.

    If the ball is very low, then there's a more low to high swing. If the ball is very high, then you might swing down as in high to low.

  • @imranahmad7262

    I think further proof that this is true is that you can decide to hit a flat shot or slap instead of topsin pretty late into a swing.

    The reason the racket head drops below the hand is because they are swinging from a fairly low position. You can test this by pointing your arm at the varous start heights and with the wrist cocked back see how far down your wrist bends - the lower the arm the more you can get the hand pointing downwards. In addition the lower you start the more upward momentum your arm will have as it moves up to the ball. This momentum gets transfered to cause the windscreen action, so the lower you start the faster the upward part of the windscreen action, so the more topspin it generates.

    I agree with you, especially at advanced levels of the game, as you show with clips of the pros.

  • @bournejason66
    @bournejason66 Před 5 měsíci +1

    I agree the point he tries to deliver. If one use a top spin pro device with top panel on, then the swing path, while it’s low to high, is definitely Not what pros are doing. The traditional teaching low to high using a bicycle tire or top spin pro is not the optimal way to swing. All the pros in this clip has a very shallow low to high swing plane/path.

    Idk man, look most of the things you’re saying are correct, however the whole like windchill wiper and pronating over the ball, that kind of is “low to high” if you ask me. And kind of watching the videos the racquet is starting low and going up. It’s good you specify how to actually go low to high but it’s still low to high. Like are you trying to argue the racquet is at the same level? It seems like everything you’re saying is correct, but what you’re saying still sounds like low to high. Seems like with this “it’s not low to high” stuff you’re kind of just trying to sound cool and be like this big debunker seems kind of clickbaity

  • @titusjohn6920
    @titusjohn6920 Před měsícem

    It depends on when you hit the ball. If the ball is taken on the rise or at the top of the bounce not much need to go from low to high. But if the ball is falling from the top of the bounce, you need to hit low to high for topspin. The video is misleading.

  • @pieterfaasen9148

    It is relative depends on the angle and amount of spin they want.

    The question is how do pro’s keep arm supinated so long so hand approaches the ball with racquet below the ball.

  • @aevans1979
    @aevans1979 Před 4 měsíci

    Great stuff here! Seems like you’re saying that low to high isn’t the predominate factor in generating top spin but windshield wiper is. Seems like you could test this. Build a machine that hits low to high w/o and with windshield wiper motion and measure spin. @Mark Rober does stuff like this on his CZcams channel.
    Would be cool to see the results and get definitive proof!

    • @Chris_Sheridan
      @Chris_Sheridan Před 4 měsíci

      .. FYI - there's a teaching aid that helps beginners learn the principle of swinging from low to high - in essence it demonstrates how to produce spin on a ball - the 'windshield wiper' motion relates to the follow-through after contact which is a natural progression, as long as the racquet head was below the height of the ball in the approach stage.

    Most of the videos are from the front, you can't use this perspective to show whether the hand or the ball is lower. Following this logic you could say that the top of the net is actually lower than the player's feet as that what it looks like. You should use a side view videos for this analysis.

  • @SquatLife
    @SquatLife Před 5 měsíci

    Isn't it both??? Need some high to low but you also need to drive through it. I think what has caused windshield wiper confusion is seeing strokes on TV and not realizing how much extension occurs with the pros while at the same time they are going low to high. The racquet moves at about a 60 angle from low to high, hand moves much less sense it is the end of the rotation point. But while the racquet is moving low to high it is also moving forward and doesn't begin to flip/windshiled wipe until extension has ended.

    Dude, you’re argument is that the hand is at the same level as the ball… you aren’t hitting the ball with your hand 😭 you’re hitting with the racquet which is below the hand below the ball
    I wanna say though the points you make are correct, but it’s still tehcically low to high

    Each and every professional swing you've shown has arm moving in a vertical component - from low to high. Sometimes it will be more (esp in high angle cross-court lasso), sometimes less or almost not at all (high ball flat drive), but to say NEVER is simply false and a misleading concept to teach.

  • @Chris_Sheridan

    This is nonsense! .. proper coaching refers to the racquet head - not the hand - people are learning how to use a racquet and the fundamental basics require that the racquet face swings upwards to produce topspin on the ball. The racquet face swings from low to high through contact - basic physics dictates that this must happen and slow-motion video analysis confirms that the racquet path swings from low to high before the wrap-around follow-through. Note the racquet head before contact and immediately after contact.
    This dude and his channel misrepresents the fundamentals of good tennis coaching. The comments section tells you this guy doesn't know what he's talking about - he's not even a proper coach.

    Ha ha! .. the video of Nadal shows exactly a low to high swing path which contradicts the video title.
    Don't focus on the hand - the racquet head is more important.
    The dude doesn't know what he's talking about - it's irrelevant if the hand is slightly above or below the point of contact, so goodness knows why this dude even mentions it.
    Nothing in the video is new information - the dude is simply trying to get attention by using click-bait titles on his videos.
    Many other tennis channels on CZcams have far better instruction with greater insight from professional coaches who know what they're talking about, unlike this kid who's a complete novice and inexperienced in tennis fundamentals.
