  • The wiring in my 1992 Dodge Diesel truck burned up when my flex plate broke and locked the engine up. In this video I install a $22 power distribution block from a 1994 Ford Explorer. I re wire the whole truck replacing the fuses and relays. I have included the wiring diagrams to make everything super simple for you.

    As an experienced tech may i suggest putting a wire diagram in the glove box and label the box that it's in there. I've repaired vechicles like this when the owner is not around or not capable and they can be a bit annoying to diagnose in a hurry. Me annoyed = customer pays more. Great video as usual

      Thanks and good luck. It’s been over a year and I have had no issues. Everything is exactly the same as when I finished that video.

    While I'm not knocking your soldering method the way I like to do it is to slightly splay the ends so they can be meshed together. I then put a twist in the joint to help mechanically lock it together before soldering. I also like to use heat shrink with the goo in it that seals up the connection to create a water tight bond. Lastly there is a product called Tessa Tape. It's an OEM like fabric tape that's designed for automotive applications, and the exterior version doesn't get gooy and soft with age/heat like electrical tape does.
    I did a kinda similar project on my Jeep. However what I did was pull a PDC from a same model and disassemble the whole thing to use the terminals in my original PDC to add circuits in the blank spaces. I now have several additional fused circuits for accessories as well as a couple of additional relays right in the PDC.

    This video was so helpful. I have a 93 that I have been chasing the tail of an electrical problem. With the symptoms I’m getting I either have a relay or ecm issue but doing this is now on my list.

    I used the blue seas 150 safety hub. It was more pricey than this but came out clean for sure.

      @MuddyBeards4X4  Před 3 lety +1

      Yea, I watched your video a few times, lol. The safety hub 150 was very difficult to find. No one had it in stock when I was looking and I needed that week. So I went looking in the junkyard. It was more work, but I really like having the relays in the same box as well.

    Pretty much any 90's PDC is laid out like that and are great upgrades to older stuff. I am running a TJ PDC just to run all of my auxiliary stuff. It works great, is pretty tidy, and is a whole lot cheaper than an SPOD.

    I would have completely charged that battery, I use a ship to shore charger I got from Advance for about $65.00. First I charge and check it with the charger on 15 amps completely,,then let it rest and charge it at 3 amps until 100%. You don’t want your alternator to have to charge a dead or weak battery.

    Pretty sweet, I just about have this Fusible link delete done. I got a Power Distribution Block (PDB) from a 97 ford explorer, so mine is a bit different, but similar. I bought one of those headlight relay kits, the relays are a 4 pin type, while the relays on the PDB are a 5 pin, can I use those 5 pin relays in the PDB and could you explain that if you can?

      Doesn’t matter which one, as long as it has fuses, relays and wire size you need. I read about this fuse panel in a forum. I think a 96 would be the same anyways.
