      Me too! I think she can take a significant step forward. She already showed she is a stellar defender in the W during her rookie year. This Team USA run showed she can be a significant scoring threat when she is tasked with it, so I hope to see her get more minutes and have an All-Star caliber season next year.

    A frontline of Alyssa, Breanna, and A'ja is unfair. You get a lot of defense, inside game, passing, and shooting when these three combine. Even if two of them have an off-night, one can pick it up. And damn look at Wilson, what couple of weeks she has had. What a champion!

    • @benevolenthoops
      @benevolenthoops  Před rokem +1

      Agreed. Those three are a cheat code! 😂 A'ja's run over the last few weeks is ridiculous. Never seen one person get so many significant accomplishments in such a short period of time.

    I honestly can't say enough about how great the scouting for this team was, because they put together a team that they knew their first game full together would be in the competition so the chemistry had to be instant, I have to say they started a little slow on offense, but the defense was on point since day 1, there were a lot of things I enjoy about this team:
    1.- I am 100% on the boat to give a chance to another talent than the same old same old, because really? there was no other talent in those 9 gold medals that could give a chance than Diana Taurasi? I personally think it was a lack of attention and putting a team together they just threw a lot of talent that they already know what to do and call it a day, it was nice to see a USA Team Basketball that actually plays for each other so well, this team was the first I enjoy the most since the 2012 London Olympics team, and that says a lot!
    2.- A lot of people talk about the newcomers in USA TEAM basketball, but let's not forget that Stewie, Aja, Plum, and Lloyd, were actually debuting as the leaders or vets of this team, their role was way different in the 2018 World Cup, and I think they absolutely crush their role and shine, is amazing to see.
    3.- Coach Reeves had a vision for this team and it was to defend and RUN, and she definitely accomplish that, this team enjoy the defense and to see a starting 5 with a powerhouse in defense like Atkins, Loyd, Copper, Thomas, and Stewie was again so fun to watch, but she truly was a master of moving those pieces the lineups she comes up with were so interesting and again she was allowed to because of the versatility this team has.
    4.- I personally think this team overall had good chemistry but they were lineups I think we're better than others like:
    Starting 5: Stewie, Aja, Thomas, Loyd, and Gray, great to give the first punch of Offense, personally I don't think Gray is that great of a defender but she is a BIG guard so she bothers her pears
    Bench: Jones, Austin, Ionescu, Laney, and Plum
    Defense lineup: Atkins, Copper, Thomas, Stewie, and Aja
    Offense lineup: Plum, Gray, Aja, Stewie, and Thomas
    The ones I think work in every lineup they put them were: Plum, Thomas, Jones, and Atkins.
    Overall so fun to watch this team and can't wait the future of the USA TEAM 👏✨🎉🎊

      @benevolenthoops  Před rokem +2

      Yeah, I agree with everything here. Copper was one of my favorites coming off the bench, she is so athletic and good at getting easy buckets in transition just by being faster than everyone. I think the "Defense lineup" you mentioned there played a huge role in why this team was able to have such huge margins of victory. Excellent analysis Azpeitia!

      Gray is a better defender than she appears to be at first glance. She is quicker than she appears, with quick hands and a great sense of court spacing. She is also versitile and can defend multiple positions as well as evidenced when she was task with defending Tina Charles in the Seattle series. There is more to playing defense than being able to run from place to place quickly. Instincts and anticipation also play a major role. Grays ability to get her own shot when she pleases off the dribble is bcause she is very quick and that also translates to defense. in basketball quickness trumps straight line speed. Gray is a player that you need to watch for a long time to recognize her real ability and value to a team.

    The Olympic team could potentially be even younger with the graduation of Boston, Clark, and Bueckers and the maturation of McCowen. Hopefully in 2024 Stewart won't be playing hurt (she clearly had back problems) as well.

    @4:09 When the official lineup of the USA team was announced A LOT of people were angry that Shakira made the team over Rhyne Howard, which was stupid because first they dont play the same position, and I dont think being ROY is automatic pass to the USA team, with how the team turn out, its obvious the needed an athletic BIG, that could defend and RUN, It bothers me when people say she doesn't have offense game, when in college 47% of their team offense run though her, I personally think she just hasn't had a good coach that develops her versatility, in Maryland they wanted to put her in a box, then in Ole miss they allowed her basically do whatever she wants because the program was not good, and now she was drafted to a team that the first thing the coach says to her, is she needs to learn to clap because see was going to that a lot from the bench, she had to prove in every single game that she was worth of her position, to have the rookie season she had without being the main focus and just the effort of defense and boards its pretty impressive to me.
    I think Coach Reeves gave her the opportunity because she saw she didn't have to be the main star or focus to make an impact on a team, she was in the group of the double figures points with the least playing time.

    • @benevolenthoops
      @benevolenthoops  Před rokem +3

      Yeah, I agree, even though I personally love Rhyne Howard I understand why Cheryl didn't pick her, at this point in her career Rhyne's best attribute is shooting. The Atlanta Dream had Erica Wheeler running the point, so Rhyne hasn't developed any point guard/distributing at this level yet. So I believe the decision came down to is Rhyne a better shooter than Jewell Loyd, Kelsey Plum, or Chelsea Gray....the answer there is obviously no...not yet.
      Shakira Austin added something the team needed, and, like I mention in the video, knowing you're likely going to be starting the Group Phase without A'ja Wilson it was smart to have an athletic big who could give you good minutes in A'ja's role.
