I've literally just remembered these "pre-war" maps existed yesterday and right after that 3 of my favorite CZcamsrs (you included) suddenly covered them out of nowhere

Was Ravenholm headcrab-bombed during the war (idk why would combine bombard a random little town)? Or was it a refugee town destroyed at some point before hl2?
@@BucketBoatableit was bombed after the war because it had become a rebel Hotspot
11:03 The rail line leading to that train station is right after the mines under Ravenholm and it's the first time you encounter the Combine snipers IIRC. I believe you get your first fight with proper Combine soldiers at the station, which is also where Winston gets wounded, and Leon takes you to Shorepoint base and starts the Highway 17 chapter.
Ravenholm is my favorite chapter in hl2. I love this map and I love the Pre-war series
Yes, the train station area is part of Ravenholm, it serves as a transition area to chapter "Highway 17" where you get the buggy. I can confirm this as someone, who still remembers all the parts of Ravenholm in HL2.

The first blade trap was actually at 3:08 if im correct also the room at 5:55 was in half life 2 but it was blocked off by a huge metal pannel im pretty sure

5:46 This room is a leftover from the beta. Originally, you would ride a hanging cart carrying coal across the street (instead of the electrified fence) and end up there.

that big room is still accessible in half life 2, you have to use the car crusher traps to jump over the fence to get in and it has a lambda cache inside
I want to see someone recreate the beta Ravenholm docs map in this style
That map feels like a superior version of gm_ravenholm_reborn. It has more areas to explore and it is pretty much half of the chapter.
Beta version the combine were still there. I could see when this was a rebel village and the combine invaded and initially were quickly defeated so when the town was asleep they air dropped the headcrab cannisters.

There's a version of ravenholm that's more expensive and it has a nav mesh installed I'll have to find it so stay tuned, there's a city 17 map that's expansive rp_city17_night by finnsohn that's not too bad but has reflection issues (cubemap is wonky) but it's pretty good

The whole layout of the Ravenholm chapter is burned into my memory, and seeing what it looks like now is super trippy (in a good way) and its just messing with my muscle memory of the chapter.

You should check gm_ravenholm_reborn. It's pretty much the first half of the chapter but it was made all the way back 2008. The one shown in the video is newer.

These would make for incredible Deathmatch or Counter-Strile maps.
Also something I love about garrys mod is the thought people put into the maps they make, like cars that simulate people being there, and things being there like people are moving there. Instead of it feeling like you are alone and feeling erie lol

i think when the combine came in they'd set up the gate right there, so im thinking that gate was after the War. Idk im just guessing.

This map perfectly represents how .... non sensical ravenholm as a town is
just nerding cuz i can, The Skybox dosen't make light, he has to spawn a light_enviroment entity in hammer editor and place it and it sucks to change it over and over its hard to do and you have to compile and play the map to see changes, well i use Hammer++ so i've never experinced that, i have a map but it sucks
and i remember, the first thing i did when i got gmod was i loaded into gm_construct and i spawned Father grigori and i probably tried to kill him
