X-Men vs. Street Fighter was released on the arcade in 1996, a year after the release of Marvel Super Heroes. It was the first crossover game by Capcom, featuring characters from the Street Fighter Game and Marvel Comics Universe. Its success spawned other crossover series such as Marvel vs. Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom, etc. The game was eventually ported to the SEGA Saturn and Playstation. The SEGA Saturn port was well-received for delivering almost the same arcade experience, but the Playstation port got mixed reviews because it was crippled (e.g. no tag team due to hardware limitations) and released at a much later date (2 years later).

I guess the tournament itself gave Ryu and Cyclops special treatment because they were eliminated in the first round and then the tournament itself went like nope, Ryu and Cyclop's defeat don't count, lets reinstate them and let them go to round 5. We are going to pretend that they were not eliminated in the 1st round. So the tournament was only able to wipe off Ryu and Cyclops' record of being defeated once.

It's a circular motion - forward, down, back, up, or back, down, forward, up, then punch (or 2 punches for the special). Normally you want forward a you're moving forward to grab, but back can come in handy sometimes if you're blocking.
