  • The Art of Being a Waldorf Teacher
    In the heart of a Waldorf teacher lives the commitment to help each student reach for his or her highest potential. Waldorf teacher preparation gives you a deep understanding of the whole human being as it unfolds through the critical phases of toddler, child, and teenager-so that you can guide students on their life journey.
    "Our highest endeavor must be to develop free human beings who are able of themselves to impart purpose and direction to their lives. The need for imagination, a sense of truth, and a feeling of responsibility-these three forces are the very nerve of education." Rudolf Steiner

    Someday I will be a Waldorf teacher. Having grown up for 15 years in a Waldorf school I feel it will be my place to help facilitate the growth of yet another generation. It just feels right.

      How was it like .?
      I'm in public school and they don't encourage or appreciate even approve the way I learn I'm an auditory hands on learner sure I read or draw in class why? Because it's boring PowerPoint presentation lesson followed by textbook work lectures in English or popcorn reading in English which I'm first to volunteer for math lectures online assignments students who don't want to learn or don't share my ideals for a excellent education. And teachers who don't want to answer my questions or explain how to solve an equation in steps or how I take notes or how I highlight my stanzas in poems and write notes about what the author is telling me.

    This video was so inspiring! I've been considering becoming a grades teacher but have the same public speaking fears as one of the featured teachers. Hearing her story was tremendously helpful!

      ***** What was your experience? I have similar feelings so I'm on the fence...

      ***** thanks for the insight. I wouldn't be able to follow his beliefs, which would conflict with being able to teach with passion, but I think many of the practices and basic tenets (the emphasis on creativity and artistic expression in all subjects) are legit. I could care less what Steiner believed about the various races, and epochs, and so on, but I do value artistic expression.
      However, I'm leaning toward just continuing down my current career path.
      Thanks again.

    I love the simplicity and the free style of this. I wonder though if the spiritual aspect of it can be tailored to a specific religion. Islam, Liberation theology, Christianity ect?

      And more especially to a white Aryan sort of a human, (who are the pinnacle of human evolution, as Steiner believed), and indeed everything that the school does and teaches will be through a narrow Anthroposophical lens... And to deny that Anthroposophy is a cult of it's own would also be very deceptive...

    • @Medietos
      @Medietos Před 6 lety

      +Mattibald Arch: I agree that some are not so flexible and stable in the vast body of Anthroposophical knowledge and practice and maybe emotionally mature enough that they are able to be free and meet other people in an all-open and wise way. I wouldn't really call them actual anthroposophists then though. Very few really are,according to my experience at least, because it's very demanding. Have you ever checked out the path of schooling and tried it? If A. can be said to be a cult, then you are using the word Cult in another way than the established. Better to find another word, it gets incorrect otherwise. As for the human races, maybe you have to study Anthroposophy deeper, longer, more open to even get what is being said. Most don't get it in a coffee break. Peace.

    It’s spiritualism. It’s not a curriculum and as a teacher it costs lots of money to learn Steiners ways. Steiner believes that Lucifer is a being of light and believes the lighter your skin is the more enlightened you are. I worked a day as an assistant teacher and it was very strange. We weren’t allowed to answer kid’s questions and interact normally. The teacher did the artwork and didn’t allow the kids to fully enjoy the art class. All the artwork is primarily identical. It’s all very uniformed. I left and felt like I was in a cult.
    One class for the teacher learning program was going to cost me $19,800.00
    It was crazy! They keep saying “freedom”, which is not the case. They do not teach kids to read until 3rd grade. Some of their beliefs are beautiful but a lot of them are not. Look around the schools most schools are white. Hmmmm
