You forgot about Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe a pretty good remake of Kirby's Return to Dreamland and having a new side story mode for Magolor and having his own amusement park which is really cool I wish that Nintendo and HAL could do full-on remakes of the two Kirby 3DS Games like Kirby Triple Deluxe and Kirby Planet Robobot and having new side story modes for both Taranza and Susie just like how they did with Magolor in Magolor Epilogue which that would be cool to see HAL and Nintendo do. Oh yeah and also you forgot Mario VS Donkey Kong GBA remake as well oh and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze + Funky Mode and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury

I know people prefer the Dreamcast version but the Gamecube version holds a special place in my heart.

Fun Fact about the Miitopia remaster: In the postgame there is a secret tower you can complete, its completely new, it was not advertised, and what's more is that it appears out of no where with no fanfare. Also its very hard so, good luck!
i remember freaking out about new content when the demo came out because people found unfinished code for the final boss of that tower and managed to fight it (though it used a huge gold snurp model)

I think another big reason why people loved the Swift Sail in Wind Waker HD was because it also automatically changed the direction the wind was blowing in, meaning once you get it, you don’t have to pull out the Wind Waker to spend 20 seconds at a time changing the way the wind goes, which is especially helpful if you just need the wind to change a slight way and you can just tilt your ship that way instead of playing the Wind’s Requiem just to go from N to NE
Also Xenoblade Definitive would definitely be on my list of best remakes/remasters; the game’s biggest flaw was how bad the character models look, and Definitive just looks gorgeous. There’s also a lot of little optimizations that makes the game flow both faster and smoother (like speeding up Chain Attacks) and there’s an extra bit of story that gives a really popular character the proper closure she definitely needed from the base game

I feel like Harvest Moon with rival marriages and Pokémon with Trainers who level their Pokémon, add so much to immersion in those games. Each of those series should have that feature in all of their respective games.
It’s so sad they removed rival marriages and don’t seem to have any intention to put them back. It really added some life to the games, the characters don’t just care about me, they have other relationships.
The only inconvenience I ever encountered was not being able to go to a certain part of town fir a while because it would trigger that harlet Sabrina stealing my man Vaughn right in front of me

@@AnaverdGaiden The Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters are great remakes! I have a physical copy of the collection for the Switch and I love playing them. They've fixed the text fonts which made them perfect updates in my opinion.

@@loek7531 I'd say Rebirth is average, remake is god awful. There's a reason Rebirth sold so badly, people were put off by how horrendous Remake was. The original trounces both of them in every way.

I'm surprised people are still calling it Harvest Moon these days considering the confusion around the title. I feel like calling it Story of Seasons or Farm Story would make more sense at this point.

I love both versions of Majora’s Mask, and I think 3D doesn’t get enough credit for what it does right: The Bomber’s Notebook is a much more useful tool for people trying to 100% complete the game for the first time. The Song of Double Time lets you skip to the exact hour you need which cuts down on needless waiting such as for the Bomb Shop lady to get robbed at 12:00. Save points are huge for people who don’t have hours at a time to sit down and play through a whole 3-day cycle or maybe messed something up and want to retry without resetting the cycle. Just being able to equip four items without the Ocarina being one of them is super useful. They even gave the Circus Leader’s Mask (now Troupe Leader’s Mask) an actual side quest even if a seventh bottle may not have been the most necessary addition.
The Tingle Bottle is the best change in WWHD that isn't related to the Triforce and isn't the Swift Sail. It let you get missable pictographs for the figurine quest. That alone made it a HUGE change~
Plus, I still think Miiverse was such a fun platform. I always loved the Miiverse interactions~
The Katamari Remakes are AWESOME. Especially the 2nd one. It became one of my favorite franchises after playing

I understand that they removed the rival marriages because they didn't want to you be able to "lose" and miss out on marrying who you wanted to marry, which I can KIND of appreciate, but like...why not just make it so that once you're married, the rival marriages can still happen?
I personally loved playing matchmaker as an extra sidequest after I got married in the GBA one. It also means the only way to keep Kai in town is to marry him yourself, which I don't necessarily want to do!
I remember hearing it was also because Japanese fans didn’t like that someone would end up ‘lonely’ by virtue of you taking their intended rival marriage spouse.
I feel like the easiest solution would be to have an extra option (maybe someone gender ambiguous like the rival farmer Jamie from Magical Melody, so that they could be eligible as a player marriage option as well without messing with anyone’s personal gender preference). The player could marry them, or they could be made to work with anyone who ends up alone.
I miss rival marriages a lot so I may have thought too hard about this. 😂
Majora’s Mask 3D is my favorite game of all time so it’s always fun seeing people’s takes on Majora’s Mask 3D because that’s the one I played first so everything about the N64 version feels off. I still think both versions have pros and cons but you should play whatever one you can because it’s such an amazing game
Personally, I didn't care much about the changes to the Bomber's Notebook, the addition of the alarm feature, and making the owl statues a proper save. Buuuut I was really disappointed by the Zora swimming and downright enraged by the bosses being changed so severely. The only time in my life that I've actually thrown my controller in anger was playing MM3D. And it happened twice. Those bosses were frustrating and awful where the originals were fun or at least okay. Odolwa was a bad enough change, but Gyorg and Twinmold were horrendous. I've been tempted to sell the copy I have because I'm fairly certain I'll never touch it again. At this point, I'm keeping it just for the collection factor because my N64 is busted and therefore cannot play the original.
For the record, it’s not actually what they do in terms of design changes that determines what is a remaster or a remake. Remake means built from the ground up, remaster means almost all of the same code and things. TTYD is a VERY similar experience, but it was built from the ground up so it is a remake.

So, from what I remember, a big reason gambling has been removed from remakes (and in general) is due to changes in the rating system (because "think of the children!!!). Double checking and credit to Bulbapedia for a lot of this info:
Starting around 2009, the Pan-European Game Information (PEGI, which I believe is the European version of the ESRB ratings here in the US) made it so that video games that had any form of gambling would receive a stricter rating. That meant changes in the Pokémon games (and I assume the Mario RPG remake as well here) had to be made in order to still have an E for everyone equivalent rating for them.
Game Corners have since been phased out, but fun fact: apparently the Japanese version of Heart Gold and Soul Silver do have slot machines. The Voltorb Flip game is something exclusive to releases outside of Japan most likely to get by the rating board. Also, the virtual console releases of Red/Blue/Yellow and Gold/Silver/Crystal still have the game corners as they were in the original releases, so they have a PEGI 12 rating instead of the usual PEGI 7 (so T for Teen up from E for Everyone).

30:23 I enjoy the Remake enough but the main complaints a lot of us have (myself included) is mostly art style and changes to atmospheric touches, which were a big part of the charm of the OG. So basically for most fans who value art style over graphics, the PS3 original is still the preferred version. So sort of like your Shadow of the Colossus take earlier in the video (which ironically also done by Bluepoint)
What was the first mention?
In other words, it’s practically a non-issue for those who aren’t die-hard fans/purists. I mean I get it, the OG is more moody and atmospheric but to say the remake is objectively bad BECAUSE they altered the artstyle is being hyperbolic to say the least. The Remake is objectively better in nearly every-way imaginable including graphical fidelity and QoL improvements.
The moody atmospheric vibes of the OG is more personal preference than anything honestly.

i've always had the same issue with the "downhill" term of phrase. i've heard it used before as a term for things getting worse, but i've definitely also heard the opposite, with "downhill from here" meaning "it's going to get easier" (like when you go down a hill)
Both are correct. Downhill from here being bad is because you used to be at your peak. Downhill from here being good is like you're on a bike and don't have to try hard to move forward like you did uphill.
I only actually got exposure to OG N64 Majora's Mask through your old videos lol, I played it on virtual console a bit but played the 3DS one. It's my favorite game ever but it's just kind of funny because I couldn't imagine Majora's Mask WITHOUT the owl statue save spaces and mediocre Zora movement lol

@tanookijumpman1139 They are in the original game but they work completely differently. The game forces you to quit when you use them, and you can only reload that save once. If you try to reload that save again, it will put you at the start of the last 3 day cycle.
TTTD remake is indeed, SO good. There’s so much cool new stuff, from music to QOL updates.
Yeah, the new visuals are pretty cool, which is something I think the newer Paper Mario games did well. The new bosses are fun, the remade music is leagues better than the original, and the new animations for the a lot of the characters are amazing, making the world much more alive.
It just needs a 60 fps patch.

Honestly out of all the remakes/remasters in this video, heartgold is my absolute favorite.
It was my first ever pokemon game and was an awesome start to my life long love for the franchise. Even if the games aren’t that good in many people’s opinions, I still have a fondness for the games (yup… even the ones like Brilliant diamond).
But the one thing that the game made me never forget is the best starter ever to start this big adventure…

To be honest, I actually prefer the original versions, even though I played them for the first time several years after beating SoulSilver. I just find them way more charming visually and musically.
Peebs you should do a whole talk about Phantom hourglass and spirit tracks. I think you’ve talked about every Zelda game I think except for those two in depth 😭☕️☕️☕️☕️

I think the new save system is good for two reasons:
It makes it easier for newcomers to enjoy the game more casually and this in turn create new Majora’s Mask fans.
It’s on a handheld and having convenient saves is nice for short bursts of play.
It's not even new, the statues were already there in N64.

@@RuiTsuki Yes, the statues were in the original, but they weren't permanent saves. They were temporary saves if you needed to take a break. Once you load up that file, your owl statue save is gone. The 3DS version got rid of the Song of Time saves and just made the owl statues ones permanent.
@@RuiTsuki Why is everyone berating me so much? :( Though the owl statues were in the original game, PBG talked about how the system overall has changed since the N64 game and I was defending the 3DS developers' choice to make it different.

The version of Mario 64 on 3D All-Stars is pretty significantly touched-up. They made new assets for the HUD and cleaned up the 2D sprites for the trees and such. It’s fairly subtle, but it’s a nicer version of the game.
Romhacks have done that for decades.

When you add all of that crap it dilutes what the game originally was and makes it a new experience. If they were going to make a remake of SM64 from the ground up then that's one thing, but when they're just touching up a remaster it'd feel weird to make it look completely different.
I would say a remake is when they make the assets again from scratch and remaster is when they polish up the old files
Yup, exactly! Sometime in the last few years people just completely threw out the definitions and started calling remakes and remasters whatever they want, for some reason.
You forgot about Super Mario All-Stars remakes of Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario Bros. 3. Those were great remasters of the original games on NES and Famicom.
Super Mario Advance 4 especially. The definitive version imo

How peebs feels about Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire is exactly how I feel about Majora's Mask HD. I didn't play the original, but the remake was pretty good in my opinion.
The problem people had with the demon souls remake was the change in the environment and character designs. As these are used for slot of world building and story telling in fromsoft games.
For example the first boss in the prison level their lore says they charmed the people and that's how she gained power and in the original she looks nice but in the remake they make her look evil and scary which contradicts her lore.
I mean, it looks and plays WAY better than the original so even with minor differences like that they don't matter too much

In case you weren't aware, the whole gambling thing is bc PEGI became a lot stricter with ratings sometime between Gens 3 and 4 of Pokémon. Like, it's an automatic 18+, IIRC
14:28 - While I agree that I think the Zora swimming change is a bad change overall, I think the point of the change was to give the player more control when they're just swimming around enclosed spaces. It's VERY hard to control the Zora in places like the confined water areas of the Great Bay Temple or the narrow, twisting corridors of the Pirate Fortress basement.

The Switch version of Pikmin does have motion control, but I think that they are super weird. For instance, you can only move your cursor around when you are holding down a button and the whole motion control experience is overall much worse. I just stick with stick controls on the Switch and it works just fine, but the pointer on Wii is preferable because you have much more control over your cursor!

I was stoked when the Link's Awakening remake was first announced as i loved playing DX back on my Zelda GBA SP. The only thing that didnt click with me at first was the remade soundtrack, not sure why but it just annoyed me with the overuse of flutes.
Playing it again... I have no idea what was wrong with me, the whole game is amazing, the soundtrack really grew on me when i revisited it.

Let it be known that Peebs thinks Wind Waker HD’s crosshair when launching bombs is cheating
Off the top of my head, the issues with the Demon's Souls remake are that the atmosphere was watered down, the graphics were kind of generic looking and the gameplay was almost exactly the same as the original, even when changes actually would have been good. It's not that it's bad in isolation. It's really just that the original ends up being the more definitive version.
The problem I have with some people’s complaints, is that they think Bluepoint’s changes were malicious, and spiteful, and thought they were better than FromSoftware, which is such a spit in the face to all the work bluepoint did to remake. I don’t really think the atmosphere is watered down in a place like tower of latria, it’s more of a different interpretation. The original prison of hope was made to make you feel stress and anxiety with the bug noises playing throughout the entire level. The remake is made to make you feel more melancholic and it feels more haunting, with the lady(can’t remember the name) is singing the song in the background. My interpretation of the new one is, based on the lady’s dialogue, she feels so horrible for the prisoners, that she tries to sing her song to calm them, even if it doesn’t work. There’s a lot more I can say but those are my main defense to the remake, I get why OG fans are upset with these changes, but just because something is different, doesn’t it’s automatically worse.

Allegedly the rival marriages were removed because fans kept writing in that they were choosing to be alone because no matter who you marry at least one rival bachelor will end up alone and it was making them sad :c

I can understand it but now they're ALL alone!! I want them to marry and be happy~! (not saying being married equates to happiness I myself have no desires for marriage) They should've done was Rune Factory 2 did when you marry the rival's love interest and had a filler girl to take the place. Jenny would've been perfect for that and Brandon for the filler man. The two don't interact so there's no guilt about taking either away from each other.
Wasn't it that japanese fans felt "threatened" by the prospects of having a rival? Which is imo kinda weird because iirc in the last few games that feature them, the bachlor(ettes) even ask you if you think the other character is a good match in your opinion.
You could always save at the statues in MM, but you had to quit the game when you saved and the saves were only temporary, not permanently like using the song of time

One game I'm looking forward to is the MGS 3 Snake Eater remake. I'm excited to play a game that was one of my favorites on PS2
That's more of an enhanced port than a remake, though, since all of the assets are identical besides the portraits.

As a longtime fan of Dead Space, I think I know what Peebs is talking about in regards to that "new character". Basically, the character he's talking about WAS in the original game, but only via audio logs. The remake gives her more of a presence.

Wait... you could always use the owl statues to save. Even in the N64 version.
Nah the N64 owl "save" was just so you could turn the game off and continue where you were later. The save in the 3DS is a hard save that you don't have to turn the game off for. If your game crashes you can always go back to that save. If your game crashes on N64 you are screwed.
The N64 did have a hard save but it was only when you restarted time.
If you love the quirky nature of Super Mario RPG, you're gonna LOVE ttyd
13:20 you know those saving statue were always there in the Global version right? the JP version is the merciless one that was jank where you couldn't even save lol. the global verison of the game is what JP would have had if they had more time. back in the day we didn't have dlc and day one update, so they just had to go with the flow... the 3DS did improve on the saving system though by not making it mandatory to slash it with a sword, a welcome improvment because not everyone has hours to spend playing the game till they can finally save (Nintendo's most important point with their zelda games is to make it welcoming for first time players), this make the game more accessible and more healthy for game time.
i strongly agree with you though with how they changed so many things just because. ESPECIALLY THE ZORA SWIM. litterally was the best swimming mechanic i ever have played in my life and still to this day no other game has came close to it. it was so intuitive, smooth and nice. even if the space to swim freely was very limited, i still had fun with it... and they removed it, vile, villainy, unthinkable, shame on them...
Demon's Souls Remake is inferior to the original solely because they changed the Adjudicator boss theme.
23:57 for some reason the first time I saw the "Adventure, Yeah!" (on the og video) really tickled my funny bone, probably one of the hardest laughs I had from a PBG video

Peebs, I'd love to see you play Heartgold! I loved your Alpha Sapphire nuzlocke and I'd love to see what team you'd end up with in Heartgold. (I know your nuzlocke took you a long time, so I totally get if you don't want to get back into that chaos)
Oh god, as long as he doesn't do a Nuzlocke. My SoulSilver Nuzlocke was terrible because the level scaling is atrocious in those games. It ends up just being a huge grind to make sure you don't get bodied and lose the run, especially when you make it to Red.
I really liked the different camera angles or maybe it was just multiple PBGs, but either way, fun video! 😁
I'd love to see a remake of Harvest Moon DS that doesn't have an aneurysm and destroy itself whenever you look at it wrong.

@13:20 I gotta correct you: those owl save statues were in the original too! You could save in two ways: by playing the song of time and going back to the start of the first day or by saving and quitting your session by using those owl statues. There from day 1!

Something interesting about Shadow of the Colossus for PS4 its the same overall but there's an added quest to a new weapon because of a theory someone had about a certain structure that looked like you could enter it somehow and get something out of it. I don't remember too many details from this but that's what I have heard, so that's pretty cool.

I know I'm a little late but I just wish more people knew about the MM3D restoration patch. It completely fixes all the issues with the remake and adds new control options. If you use this you get the best of both the original and the remake, so you get the new graphics the old boss mechanics the old zora swimming and old ice arrows. I'd definitely recommend it because it's pretty easy to find it and patch your game for the best experience.

Good video! Yeah, Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda, but the 3DS one just had so many unnecessary changes!
Luckily, there are patches for the 3DS version to restore a lot of the changes back to the original. Bettet yet, there is now a PC port that will allow for mods so you can pretty much customize your game however you want to play!
Heart Gold is great. Maybe my favorite Pokemon game up there with Legends Arceus
Without the 3D remakes of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, I wouldnt have become the avid Zelda fan I am now (twinning with my boyfriend, who's into the series even more). I've got to give them that, despite a lot of Majora's Mask 3D's flaws. Excellent video as always! ❤️
I don't think people think demon souls isn't good, its more so that its very different because its not a fromsoft developed game its made by bluepoint and it just looks and feels wrong, but it seems pretty true to the original to me having never played it.

Agreed. The 2 remake was SO GOOD . Liked it more than the 4 remake too. 2's remake put it up there with how fun 4 already was. But slower/ scarier / more strategy involved.

I thought the only version that didn't let you save by the owl statues was the Japanese n64 version, but all other versions including the USA N64 version did let you save by the owl statues
