  • Quick video showing my rear rack/carrier modified to fit on the front end.
As well as modifying one to fit the front of my Surly Midnight Special fork, in a way I haven’t done before.
Time will tell if it lasts 😅

Carrier/rack mod! Calling it a rack sounds funny, no idea how many times I say it in this video but it’s a lot! 😆 hope you enjoy 😄

Very nice! Where can I find those adapter bits for the axle/mounting the rack?

Thank you for sharing I was trying to figure this out how to modify this I don't have the eyelets in the front on a few of the mountain bikes eyelets in the back for I'm assuming for fenders I'm going to try your application thanks again

ok, I understand the use of used items for the new life - I do it myself and I support it. A small suggestion - It is much easier and just as cheap to do by buying a rear rack for a small bike (12 or 16 "wheels) and mount it as the front rack on a large bike. As for the mounting points on the fork. The easiest way to buy or make a metal clamp from thin sheet metal - it works! May I ask if the frame of this bike was welded?

should of bend the top tube out to fit the top eye nut before you cut it and then bend the bottom tube to fit the second eye it would made it cleaner but good gob

Yeah I’d say the top one would reach but the lower one barely reached the middle eyelet, would be tidier without that strap like you said though 👌🤙 if I do another carrier for a Surly fork with the shoulder eyelet then I’ll keep that in mind! Cheers

That is a neat outcome given what you had to work with. Much better than the kludge I came up with. Does the front wheel tend to flop when stationary?

Thanks! Yeah quite a nice outcome, happy with it (even in its untested state haha).
Not much more than without it, unless loaded. I can (on other bikes, similar basket position) ride no hands with an average load.
Wouldn’t really recommend it with a moderate to heavy load, though haha
