  • I was completely blown away by the illusion of Doug Tagsold's Colorado and Southern Narrow Gauge. His layout takes the visitor up the Clear Creek as it might have been in the late 1920's.
    I knew the modeling would be excellent, but did not think I'd accept the illusion....I did.
    Watch the video to determine if you succomb to the illusion.

    I grew up in Colorado, and Doug has captured the feel of the towns and the landscape beautifully. It's almost as good as going home.

    I've never seen a layout that blends in so well with the backdrop photos. And I love the loop, well done.

    It took me a few moments to notice that the equipment is actually standard gauge dressed up to look as though it's narrow gauge but it's very very well done and I absolutely understand as to why he did it since true HOn3 equipment is both difficult and costly to get your hands on. I really enjoyed this video since I'm thinking of doing pretty much the same thing but in N scale with a freelanced road of my own.

    What impressed me the most was that they colors of the scenery matched the backdrops almost perfectly. Something many layouts fail to achieve.

    The club I was in had the privilege to visit this layout the same day we visited the Blissfield club several years ago. I got a real kick out of the partial turntable pit. Hey, why not? What really hit me though is how many structures were the "old" ones I remembered liking as a kid and never got. Looking closer at them I realized the detail of those older kits really isn't bad at all, and since then have been buying them on eBay.

    Exceptional, both the build and the composed camera shots. But, gauge matters, since that would be impossible in o gauge. Im aiming for my first video aug 15, 2022 on my o gauge "the trainboard" channel, very inspired by your work. Gary j

    Very wonderful layout!! When you asked about us knowing the scale i would had said On30. That seems to be the hot scale here on YT especially for logging type. Its nice to see that its in HO as thats what i model. What percent is the grade at the beginning of the Georgetown loop? Im guessing more than four percent. Im running four percent on mine because my layout is 13' long and 5' wide. If i had the room i would build a walk around but probably only a single level. I started one in my garage but then decided i wanted to be in the house plus it just too dusty out there. Awesome layout and hope to see more of it in the future.🚂👍

    • @davidkeith8860
      @davidkeith8860  Před 2 lety +2

      Russell, it's not HO scale. HO is 1:87 ratio. This layout is 1:72 which the British label as OO.. The HO track comes out to be 46" gauge in 1:72 which is significantly wider than the prototype 36" gauge. The point of the video is that the 25% discrepancy in gauge was overcome by excellent modeling that captured the essence of the original C&S. Your guess of 4% grade or more is probably correct. Doug's layout appeared in Kalmbach's annual Model Railroad Planning. If you can find the issue you can learn the technical details of the layout. Good luck on your layout.

      @@davidkeith8860 - I really didn't notice the gauge at all. The modeling of the Beartrap engines and the rolling stock along with the scenery were the stars. I'd enjoy seeing more (maybe some operations?) as well as modeling techniques.

    Wait illusion being it’s supposed to feel like it’s really there or is it just HO standard gauge trying to be HOn3

      Model Railroad Planning 2018. Since that plan, Doug added an additional room so forks Creek moved into the new space and he got another town on the lower deck. My video is after he started the addition.

      Richard, the initial 1:45 is still images. Most of the remainder is video, with sounds of the locos. There is a portion that follows a train over the Georgetown loop. The sound changes as the loco works harder... How you consider a second viewing.

    Doug, Are you Bobber Cabooses Scratch Built; or, have you Kit Bashed then somehow?

    • @davidkeith8860
      @davidkeith8860  Před 2 lety

      Mark, Doug is not the creator of the video. To get an answer to your question you'd have to find a way to ask him. While I've met Doug at his house and at others events, I do not have contact with him. Much of his equipment is stock HO standard gauge.

    • @davidkeith8860
      @davidkeith8860  Před 2 lety

      Mark, the video contains one photo showing a center cupola caboose. Likely a Bachmann. My guess is that the end cupola caboose are modified Bachmann.

    • @markdeschane4467
      @markdeschane4467 Před rokem

      I forgot a couple items here! One, that the layout is actually simply HO and Two, that Bachmann's HO Bobber Caboose could fairly easily be modified to look like the CS Bobber. Thanks to both of you!
