Wow. I was prepared to be disappointed but was blown away instead. What a voice and what great control. "Crying" is one of my ten all time favorite songs and Roy Orbison is one of my five favorite artists ever. But I am now a Billy Gilman fan for life.
I have been compiling music since the days of Tex Ritter. At 66 yrs old, I have listened to every version of this song that's been sung. Roy and Billy own it. Billie's voice and his confidence is outstanding. This is a youthful masterpiece if ever there was one.
Oh my gosh. I can't get over how well he does this. His very presence makes me feel so weak sometimes. He's in control of his voice and he's so hot that you can feel it from even a mile away. @Donny Hathaway When I was younger, I had no clue that he would end up being gay. Because that didn't come out when he was much younger. When he first started out singing I was under the impression that he likes girls. Sorry
O.M.G. I watched him on The Voice and I thought it was great. But this is seriously amazing. He should have used this for the 8 to 4 elimination or the finale. This could win the entire competition. I love this version! So much control, power at such a young age.

@shmoogle14 he is just getting into the music like a professional thats all that is and believe or not it helps you stay in pitch especially if you are going throuh a soar throat or puberty like he was at this time when this was recorded. believe me i am a singer as well and they teach you hand gestures always help so that is all that is
Thank you dear precisely true he was going through puberty and the voice change was so difficult for him that was why he took time away eventually to let his vocals do what needed done. Then worked his but off to train his new vocals to do what he needed them to do. But now he had a low range added into the mix and learned to swing the vocal into low and high ranges with out much effort. But it was a struggle. This was live and he did not lip it he did it live and did the best he could. He used his hands to keep focused and still does to this day it helps. But now he also used dancing moves and balances it with snapping too.
I actually beg to differ... This is actually onme of my fav .versions of this song.... in fact I am sure one of the X factor contestants Jamie Archer emulated this version slightly... U can see that version by searching for X factor Jamie Archer Live Show 5
Billy Gilman could sing the phone book and touch my heart, his voice is so powerful, and his delivery so meaningful.
