Building a Road Part 3 - 1000ft Gravel Roads with Tractors

  • Building Gravel Roads! Easy gravel driveway with a TYM tractor. This is not the only way, but it works in our area. We have put off the building of a road to the sawmill for some time. It can't wait any longer with the spring rains coming. We have to get the gravel driveway drainage right too. If we don't get it done, we can't get back to the sawmill without getting stuck. We used the TYM T25 mostly to prep this road for gravel. We used the TYM T474 for most of the heavy lifting. A good grader blade can get some work done. @TYMTractorsUSA

    Great work! Not only does the road drains well, but the gravel also offers more traction and support for heavy vehicles that have tires threaded for the highway. That will surely enhance more efficient work by having the pickup truck next to the sawmill. Thanks!

    We have clay roads and they are slick as snot after the rain. Hoping once they dry out we can do something like this to the road. We call the dirt 3/4" dirty screen here in AZ.

    When I remove a Kubota loader in dirt, I always toss a short piece of 2x6 under the two rest arms. Just like the Harley...smash a soda can and stick it under the kickstand. Nice road bed and culvert job there Tony and Happy Birthday !! I have a pull type roller made from a dismantled machine a bit larger than that rental. The drone and music dressed it up nicely, btw.

    Now that you have your road built, it's time to talk to the finance committee about a new land plane for road and driveway maintenance. We were doing our driveway and the common road with a box blade, but the new landplane did it better and faster.

    You should have dugged a little bit where the pipe went though. I would also wouldn't have used it in angle. I would have dugg the ground around the road instead. It doesn't feel large enough between both end right now, especially as the winter come by, The more to the end of the pipe you press, the weaker it is as well. You got the tool to replace it anyway in the future and be able to make more videos ;)

    Tony- you talked about your 474 and how it it’s held up. I’m going to be doing many of the same things as you here in NE Tennessee. Road building, out buildings, building a house, sawmill and logging.
    I’m wondering if I should size up to the 494!?
    Would really love your input

    • @TonysTractorAdventure
      @TonysTractorAdventure  Před 7 měsíci +1

      The 474 has held up perfectly. The T494 is a big step up in size. They both are solid rigs. The T494 does have more features.

      @@TonysTractorAdventure glad. Plastic is much cheaper and easier to handle. I just had a lot of problems on my last job and swore off after washouts and collapse problems. They claim it lasts 100 years or more but the state stopped us after ditch burners melted several driveway tubes.

      Ours is only used by us. I would go with metal if it was highly traveled. Sorry for the short answer. I was riding in a car, trying to catch up on comments. Our road is doing very good. The gravel I used packs like concrete. If it was going to wash out, it would have this week. We have had 7 days of horrific rain here. Not like a normal Aug.
