Vlisco Superwax fabric has always been part of the Congolese culture. It rhymes with quality, prestige, elegance and celebration. In a period when the Congolese market is full of a variety of brands and quality of fabrics (locally referred to as “LIPUTA” in singular and “MAPUTA” in plural), one might think that Vlisco Superwax has lost its position held for years... not at all. This documentary simply tells the story of Vlisco Superwax, narrating the past, the present and the future of Vlisco Superwax in the Congolese Society.

This disappoints me ... Albeit beautiful fabrics, this company seems to lead the world to believe that the fabrics, designs manufacturing, etc. originated and have been created locally on The Continent. However, the reality seems to be appropriation.🥺 Others seem to have a stronger holds in foreign lands more so than the local people; so much so that the locals have adopted for the love of the others products instead of their own - seemingly.
Don't get me wrong, the fabrics are beautiful. However, tell the whole unadulterated truth - all of it - good bad and or indifferent.
Does the company at least have local manufacturing companies, businesses that employ locally from too to bottom? This would be good.
I strongly support your comment. Although the products are beautiful and good quality, the company has its own agenda. These are all commercial gimmick designed to benefit the company instead of the local people.

La question n'est pas du tout stupide. Il est peut-être temps que l'on change les choses.
Il est plus que temps. C'est nous les africains qui mettent ces pagnes en valeur. Alors pourquoi laisser les hollandais le faire pour nous pour s'enrichir sur notre dos ? Pourquoi ne pas les fabriquer nous mêmes pour créer des emplois en Afrique et développer le secteur ?

On nous a longtemps fait croire que le wax était notre culture alors que non . C'est un tissu importé.
L'Afrique avait ses propres tissu bien avant le wax.
Mais je félicite les pays de l'Afrique de l'Ouest qui produise eux même leur tissu.

Les dessinateurs sont africains, sortit d académie des beaux arts et ce depuis la fondation de VLISCO. La production est extérieure, avec la mondialisation, ont produit parfois a l extérieure. Et la technique de la cire sur tissu était déjà sur le continent, et on continue a faire du tissu cire, artisanalement. Tout est Africains.

The designers are African, from the Academy of Fine Arts and this since the foundation of VLISCO. The production is external, with the globalization, have produced sometimes outside. And the technique of wax on fabric was already on the continent, and we continue to make wax fabric, by hand. Everything is African.
