The reason it's difficult for people to get a home is because you turned it into a commodity.
This is why I was disappointed that Labour even under Corbyn didn't follow up on the "Land for the Many" recommendations on introducing LVT and having a Common Land Trust to help buy up Land under the bricks and mortar. I'm a LibDem myself but even I think all parties haven't addressed the fundamental issue of reenvisioning how we view Land not as private assets but into communal/community benefits.
Building 150k council houses a year is a good start from the LibDems and Greens but we need to change how we view Land entirely. We also need to move away from this British centric view of having to own a property and make rent a viable alternative option. But the issue of land through community land trusts would be such vital in changing the housing market away from being well a market driven area to one of shelter, security and comfort.
I think Greens and LibDems have the best housing policies but still that's just touching the edges of land. How we view ownership needs to change so I will be pushing hard for motions at my party's conference as something needs to change or at least have that debate so if it's rejected by my party can have at least start seeing alternative parties like the Greens take up on it.
The most concerning part of the 2024 General Election is that we are guaranteed a shit show if either of these two are elected yet people are still not looking to the other parties. They can both do whatever the hell they want and nothing will ever change. This country needs to wake up and look at the other parties more seriously.
It is a 2 party system - go find novara's recent interview with Mick Lynch
@@hydra66Saw it 👍 the two party system doesn't work. It needs reform (not Nigel style) but actual reform.
Well it will never change unless we abandon the main two.
I agree and now is our time. The Tories are done for we don't have to worry about them getting in. This is the ideal time to vote for something different. I'm voting WPB The priorities of our leaders need to change.
@@Tilted_Rocketeer We need more than reform we need political and diplomatic change. To unshackle the ties that bind us to the global criminals and get back to focusing on our country with peace and prosperity here and around the world.
Also why is pissy Rishi always allowed to lie all of the time.
Starmer , is good at it as well , remember the pledges that got him elected Labour leader.
Because pissy Rishi can’t do anything else!
Because of poor journalism!
Sick and tierd of people picking on disabled people
More compassionate bur rigorous assessment with assessors that know what they are is needed. Also the benefits of employing people with a disability and disability awareness training for employers would be beneficial.
@@waasapanin BS it’s not hard right , it’s fair to all! Many people with disabilities actually WANT to work and make a contribution. Employers need awareness and education. Shows how little you know about the sector!

Starmer and Sunak only become more similar the more they both speak. Maddening.
There should have been a Labour/Green debate, and then a Tory/Reform debate before Labour/Tory.
Politicians promise the earth but never deliver anything.
They aren't promising anything
Starmer’s taken a novel shortcut by promising fuck all - or as Obama dubbed it in his second term, “Change you can believe in.”

It would he such an easy win to say "we'll tax you ans your tax dodging wife Rishi".
Awful debate! A weak-willed man and a liar just wasting our time and BBC once again showing why TV licence charge should be forever abolished.
So you prefer round the clock adverts ,Murdoch TV etc ? , the more media outlets and "presenters" seems to mean less journalists and journalism , not many Kate Adie's or John Pilger's around these days .
@@barblessable You could just have the option of a BBC subscription and make it globally available. Heck they could charge a bit more than the TV licence per month, it's popular enough. If the British people don't pay for public broadcasting, then someone else will. That someone will not have the interests of the British population as a high priority.
Well this is dystopian
The world as a whole seems rather 'dystopian', in my opinion. We, and the world, need to change quite extremely if we're going to survive this chaos.
Sunak's main concern is welfare and its costs. What about the cost of feeding the rich? Sunak himself is a very well fed dude. His people are not going to have their taxes raised.
Great coverage from Novara. I really appreciate Ash' supportive comments about how trans people are political footballs, and I would add the Trans Community has been turned into public enemies by Sunak which is disgraceful behaviour from the leader of the country, especially with hate crimes soaring.
He does the same with asylum seekers, disabled people and half the Scottish population.
I think Sunak should ask himself those questions which he asked Starmer. Because the Conservatives failed on all of them. Sunak was trying very hard to make a comeback. However, it didn't work. Can't wait for next week Thursday. He will be booted out of 10 Downing Street 😅
Makes you feel better stammer starmer can’t answer for anything?

For me, Sunak has always been better in all of these debates. As loathsome as his policies and pisitions are, he's at least got them. Starmer just has empty words delivered robotically. Happy to be prime minister because people are just fed up with the other guy. A damn shame. The state of british politics today.
Sunak is not better. He just shouts and lies
What bothers me is you have other choices but NO you insist on these 2, they are the same. Both look you in the eye and lie.you’ll choose someone like Farage before someone like GG. You pick a Trump person like Farage over GG just to stick it to the 6% of the population they don’t like, you know the 6% you think came over in small boats.

Great to hear of your support for the RSPB Aaron ! Meanwhile . . . OBLITERATE THE TORIES!
People relating to Sunak because he cares for his kids, is possibly the most sickening thing I've seen. His "little ones" have every advantage the modern world could provide. He hasn't got a clue what it means to worry about your kids future.
They should have 3 buttons in front of them, "yes", "no", and "i am a fail". And after every question they will need to pick one to activate their mics.

Starmer Used To Head CPS ...unbelievable !!!! got though his career with lies lies and brown nosing
Mishal Husain's question to Starmer regarding benefits - is it wrong if someone on benefits is offered a job and turns it down - was ridiculous. This has always been the way benefit eligibility checks have worked, but by asking this question, she's framing the debate as though this is the most important issue - not in-work poverty, the conditions that cause people to be on benefits in the first place, or whether welfare is actually helping people to live independent lives, or become independent again.

There isn't a queue for them to join, that's the problem. 🙄
the law change effected everybody, Birmingham didn't manage it, someone, probably a politician, benefited from ignoring the law.

This “get people back in work”fails to address that many disabling chronic conditions of working age do not have treatments and have negligible research funding to find them.

You’ve been sold reform, but you’ve already shot one foot with Brexit, you’ll shoot the other one with reform. Farage sold you Brexit and it hit you right in the pocket book. One thing Brit’s are good at hating what you consider the other. You blame 6% of your population for your actions, it’s crazy xenophobia
Thanks Aaron for talking over Kier when he was talking about benefits/getting people into work, which is the first time in any of the debates this has been discussed and hugely concerns me as I am disabled/chronically ill. Please stop talking so much over important parts of the debate!
It’s so frustrating. And they don’t say anything of substance either…it’s just pointless babble.
Shame they talk over the politicians speaking so you can’t hear the debate…
How could Llis Trus do so much damage in the very very short time she was in office!
Thank you for showing the debate without too much unnecessary commentary.
I have just voted Green in Norwich by postal vote. ❎❎❎They got in at the local elections!!!
There are several V neglected illnesses (that predominatly affect working age women) stopping people working. They do not have treatments that can get people back to work and the government research funding has been tiny and totally disproportionate to their disease burden.
fibromyalgia - affects 2m, 1/3-1/2 out of work
ME/CFS - affects 300 000, 3/4 out of work
POTS - affects 150 000, 1/4 out of work
“NEW“ LC - partly accounting for increasing sick numbers - affects 2m, 1/4 out of work
They need ramped up research funding
The housing debate is banal. The solution to the problem is not the knee jerk reaction to build more houses. The reason that houses are unaffordable to the young is because of the price of land not the construction cost of the house. The reasons - The Town and Country Palling Act of 1953 100% development charge abolished; 1961 -Land Compensation Act -Hope value included in CPO compensation; 1969 Myers case hope value confirmed. Since 1968 house price index has gone up by 400% meanwhile the price of land has gone up by 800%! Radical solution a land tax.
Or repurpose old housing. There are so many buildings standing empty that it’s criminal.
I know it's important but the protesting was getting irritating as I was trying to hear people speak.
Oh by the way ,I don't smoke I don't drink and don't do drugs ,I only ever tried to make my heath better .
