- All flow, NO flaw for me. Since I also paint with oils. Painting Mephiston with @TheArmyPainter Speed Paints 1.0. This video is a miniature painting vlog regarding the painting of this Warhammer Mephiston painting with Army Painter Speed Paints.
This is not a tutorial, but is mostly a vlog of my ( 2nd ) miniature painting with Speed Paints. And I must say, I had so much fun! These old, now phased out Speed Paints 1.0 almost feels like painting with OILS! 😱🎨🎨🎨
This video will show you, that you do not need to spend a chunk of your life to paint good quality tabletop plus miniatures. This took me roughly 5 to 6 hours to finish ( minus the overnight curing ).
The longer version of this GrimPop painting project is at Patreon as usual.

We enjoyed the video! At the end of the day, paints are a tool, it’s all about how you use it. And obviously, you used this tool well. We hope to see you use the new formula soon!
😱 Oh glad you enjoyed the video! I had so much fun painting with these paints! They almost feel like painting with oils. Looking forward to trying 2.0! 😊🎨🎨🎨
You are awesome! Thanks for using speed paints
WOW!!! Speechless...
Oh thank you! 😊🎨🎨🎨
The results are fantastic, Sir! Thanks!👍😎
You are most welcome! Thank you for watching! 😊
Wow, great video and an amazing paintjob! Well done! 👌🏼
Thank you! Glad you like the video! 😊🎨🎨🎨
zenithal undercoat, speed paint bases and select highlights gives a very good table top quality i have been doing that for quite a while now. Now i need to learn how to do details like Don! Golden Lemon talent here in another 5 years or so.. lol. Love the video, keep up the good work!
This is not zenithal though, almost just flat white primer. Will try high contrast zenithal soon. Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed the video! 😊🎨🎨🎨
Great work Don. You know how to use paints to the best of their ability. It always amazes me how well you know paint.
If you saw the longer Patreon video sis… the video shows my hesitation with every paint stroke. 😅
@@DonSuratos Maybe hesitation, but still accomplished. You have a lot of knowledge when it comes to paint and the ways in which it can and will work!
@@DingoPaintsI’m an old artist sis. 😅 So many years and experience with paints since I was a kid. 😉🎨🎨🎨
I really like the reactivation of the SP v1.0
First of all it makes it really easy to blend colours.
Second it makes really easy to fix any problems.
Third it's really easy to mix them for great results.
Done 2000 points of TAU army with speed paints, 1500 more is on the way. Really glad with results.
Totally agree about everything! 😊🎨🎨🎨
Professional as always.
Thank you as always Go! 😊
It’s crazy to me that you can put that out in 6 hours… this would take me 6 weeks 😂
But it’s Speedpaints bro. 😊
I agree 1.0 was great for me too. I thought it wet blended much smoother. I'm a big Army painter/Vallejo painter and 2.0 is good but l'm glad I have a decent amount of 1.0. It's and interactive painting experience.
1.0 almost feels like oils! I love them! Buying some more old stocks of 1.0. 😊
So cool! Great job king! 👑
Thank you! Who’s King? Mephiston? 😊
Great lessons learned here! Thanks for sharing the tip of painting late at night with Speed Paints. That's about the only time I get with young kids in the house!
Similar to oils, perfect to allow it to dry overnight. Thanks for watching! 😊
inspiring stuff!!
Thanks! 😊🎨🎨🎨
great video!!!
Thank you! 😊🎨🎨🎨
Я думал, маслом быстро красить, но это прям супер. Спасибо, что продемонстрировали. Скоро буду расширять свою коллекцию красок, именно ими.
Oils are a little more versatile… but these paints are magic bro! 😊🎨🎨🎨
Looks amazing! I've started to work with my Speedpaints more like this; base coat with them and then some highlights. Makes a big difference!
Thank you! I enjoyed this process sooo much! 😊
ive always used mediums in AP speed paints even before series 2.0 and ive been able to blend really well with them. This makes me want to paint a mephiston now LOL
Haha! The medium is awesome actually! But still getting comfortable with the whole set. 😊
Speedpoint 1.0 probably works fine in warmer parts of the world :)
Nicely done
Much like oil paints. Probably. Thanks! 😊
Looks incredible. You could have saved some time by using a Slapchop Underpainting. But this result is absolutely amazing.
But white primer with spray can is faster than slapchop? But will try slapchop soon, once my new dry brushes arrive. 😊
@@DonSuratos Take your time to experiment a little with grey tones and even colours in Slapchop. The results speak for itself. If you do a single miniature, sure, a white coat is faster and the results are more vibrant. But for armies, especially horde armies like Tyranids or even Plague Marines, it is a great tool. And it gives Speedpaints so much more variety.
I hope you bought the Artis Opus drybrushes. They are well worth the money. Once you feel them, you will know. :)
@@FreshCoatKustomsOh you haven’t seen my older videos? I have been doing slapchop before slapchop. 😅 Not with Speed paints though. 😉
@@DonSuratos I am following about 17 million painting channels, so maybe I just don't remember, sorry. xD
And I am really bad with names and faces ever since I started antidepressants, so I maybe wouldn't even recognize Duncan Rhodes if he jizzed two thin coats on me.
@@FreshCoatKustomsHahaha! Sorry for the meds man! But not recognizing Duncan is bad! 😅
I bought the starter set and find myself regretting not getting the mega 1.0 set.😅
Try doing it with different undertones.
I got the Mega Set, and will buy a starter set man! I saw an old stock at shopee! 😅 Will try a yellow underpainting next time! 😊
Great video! What was the process of "cleaning up"? Did you just paint another layer with airbrush?
Just the big layers, I wanted them smoother. And also clean up of details with other colors. Like the gloves has red paint in a small area, had to paint over grey to clean. Quick stuff. 😊
I had a really bad time using 1.0 speedpaints. I'm sure that if you restrict your painting over the base coat to an airbrush coat or tiny details after waiting a day you'd be fine, but that's not the way most people paint (or should have to paint).
I enjoyed it so much, specially now that I blend with the medium. The process was to paint at nighttime much like oils, then do layering and highlighting with fresh eyes the next day. 😊 The Speed paints 2.0 that I am getting soon ( shipping ) should be perfect for most people. 😊
I'm not even remotely interested in using "speed paints", on my end, but you made this look great as usual!
Awesome paints! Love them so far. 😊🎨🎨🎨
After applying speedpaint and you move on to the next stage and start highlighting what type of paint do you use? Regular warpaints?
Cuttlefish Colors for this project I think. 😊
i had quite the mess when trying yo add decals to my minis, in my experience if you want to do decals you should varnish your minis first, my smurfs have been curing for days and even then the color can still reactivate for some reason, granted it's 1.0 but boy i barely saved it
Always varnish in between different parts of the painting process. 😊
@@DonSuratos noted
Hello, which did you use? I know it was Speed Paint 1.0 but which set. Thank you!
Mega Set! 😊🎨🎨🎨
@@DonSuratos Thanks!
