Shirley doesn't need all the vocal gymnastics and fakery, she just sings the song as the composer intended, singing the tune and letting the listener hear every word. Amazing Dame Shirley.

Patti has proven that's she can definitely sing over a full orchestra and has done so many times. That is no problem for her. The both have big dramatic voices. Shirley just emphasizes her voice very differently.
