is religion that has no God in it still religion? Buddhism is interesting because it's religion by all standards except the key one: concept of God. Buddha wasn't God. They don't pray to God.

@@0xyGen_2.p0 Firstly i would like to state what religion actually means:
Religion is a set of beliefs , practices and system followed by certain communities of human which believes in the worship of a divine , supernatural or spiritual being .
Buddhists believes in the key fundamentals of nature and life like Karma , moral values, wisdom concentration, self control etcand achieving Nirvana [which is the ultimate stage of detachment and achieving enlightenment which leads to escape from the life cycle of birth and death and become one with the universe that is the (God ).] Buddhism is more like a way of living a balanced good peaceful life and end the suffering after achieving Nirvana forever.
And Buddhists pray to Buddhas and Bodhisattva ( the Buddhist who achieved Nirvana and got enlightenment ie. The main goal of Buddhism. They are the Highest spiritual beings in Buddhism) to get strength and motivation to live a good life like them.
So of course Buddhism is a religion as it gives people a way to ultimately get out of the suffering and cycle of life and death.
( In other religion which is known as going to heaven and hell which depends according to the karma of that specific person that can also lead to rebirth if there's karma that need to fulfilled)
Buddhism is the most realistic religion to exist , it's a branch of Hinduism only as it is influenced heavily from many Indian yogic practices , it's more like Buddha's own philosophy towards life and Hinduism.
( And sorry for English typo mistakes, it's not my mother tongue I'm not good at it) :D

@@0xyGen_2.p0 First of all, religion is a Western concept and comes from Abrahamic faiths. Since Buddhism comes from Hinduism and shares the Vedic traditions, the Hindu Vedic god Indra and many other deities are part of Buddhism. Reincarnation is a central part of Buddhism as well. There are many deities in Buddhism that come from local traditions such as Kami in Japan. Religion is a Western concept and I think this is where people in the West get confused.

@@michaelashby9654 well religion isn't western concept dear. Not in way as you put it here. Conceptualisations of systems of beliefs as "religio", may originate only since around 1500, but religions existed long before that. Also, buddhism is de facto religion without God. Buddha isn't deity. We have Koreans here why don't you ask them. Buddhism functions as organised religion with typical religious structures and is from structural viewpoint closest to christianity (monks, monasteries, organisation in general, supernatural, transcendental, etc). It's been ages since I studied religiology but if you want to look deeper in it I can think of Mircea Eliade and Max Weber right now.

that's bit underdeveloped statement. Religion is for the people so what to use it then for the people? I'm guessing that you wanted to say that ABUSING religion for NJ promotion is evil. In that point I agree. If NJ visits buddhist monasteries in private visits as RM did, tgat's all right and it is how it should be done. But for promotion of very commercialised product that isn't as such related to buddhism or spreading buddhist philosophy, that's abuse. I agree . Also, Nj promotes antibuddhist values, such as individualism, materialism, putting self on first place...

@@happyGrace3487 If he makes "public" happy then why are there Buddhist devotees protesting in south korea against him? Saw a interview of him saying he wasn't doing well before until he struck gold by introducing Buddhism lyrics. So clearly he is using religion to profit while in a club where alcohol are served all while masquerading as preaching religion to the young. I wouldn't be surprised most of these club goers are not buddism and they are just there to get high and party.
