Today I am taking you through my Samhain celebration with lots of ideas for ritual, kitchen witchery, Samhain activities (for kids and grownups), symbolism of the season and a very cute idea to remember the ancestors. We will also discuss the harvest of Samhain, an animal linked to the holiday and find out, why it is called 'the witches' new year'. I hope you enjoy :)

Samhain upside-down Apple & nut cake with salted caramel
For the dough
130 g butter
110 g brown sugar
3 eggs
4 g baking powder
180 g flour
80 g ground hazelnuts (or almonds, or flour)
3 - 4 apples
cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, kardaom
pinch of salt
For the caramel sauce I suggest following this recipe:

Placae apple slices first in buttered pan, then cover with batter. Bake for about 40 minutes at 180 degrees Celcius. Let cool off, then cover with (salted) caramel sauce.

Watching the intro to this, and I just couldn't help but think about how lovely your videos are- the editing, the voiceover, the music and the humor. And then I thought, "I bet It doesn't look so put together while she is putting it all together!" (in a good humored way). Here in València we have Tots Sants: All Saint's Day. Followed by El dia de les Animetes. And Another extra Day devouted to all souls in purgatory. Only the first one is non working Day. Children, teenagers and families celebrate also Halloween causes it's so much fun!
We have the same here: Allerheiligen and Allerseelen :) but only the first is a national holiday. Even though some of the northern regions of Germany just made Halloween a holiday too 😃💪💪✨🍂🎃🔥

Love the little bat! Prefer him to the creepy elf which is banned from this house. While I'm not of the witchy persuasion I do love learning about it and other beliefs. Samhain is close to my birthday which is All Saint's day or Dia de Los Muertos. I've always preferred All Hallows Eve as a holiday. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and tasty recipes with us. That cake looked amazing!!!😍😍 Loved the pumpkin monster too. So wonderfully cute and scary.

My Mom was Scottish. When she grew up they carved Turnips for All Hallow's Eve. But here in America we never carved one. Mom said it was a lot of work, and pumpkins were clearly better.

Oh thank you for this beautiful and inspiring video! I definitively will have to try out the apple cake recipe! And Lulu loving his Kürbismonster at the end is just too cute! To add to what you were saying in the video: There are also many, many fairy tales about (Golden) apples that provide health and long or everlasting life. Usually they are on a tree in a garden and are protected by some kind of guardian (like a dragon). And: Jewish festivities also start the evening before at sunset and the Jewish New Year is also in Autumn, because with all the harvests that would be the most opulent time of year.

Interesting! I wasn't aware. The ones I use are from my garden - they are slightly sour and very firm. It also depends on the recipe though. This one you could do with any apple reqlly. A strudel I'd typically bake with sour green apples for example. A traditional apple cake more with pink lady or Jonagold.

For you Beltane is coming up :) it shift's by 6 month for the other hemisphere
