• Kia EV6 - 12V Battery ...
In my last video (yesterday), I showed that I was having to jump start my Kia EV6. I decided to replace my 12 volt battery myself. I've had to jump the car 4 to 5 times in the last week, and I don't want to be stranded somewhere. The jump box from Amazon has come in handy (link above). Also linked is a battery I bought from Walmart.
Some of you may ask why I didn't just go to the dealership and get a warranty replacement. They will end up just replacing it with the same battery and likely keeping my car for a few days. They're either just going to come back and say that the battery is fine and there's nothing they can do about it, or the battery is bad and give me another same battery. Kia/Hyundai have not acknowledged this problem yet officially. People who have replaced it with lithium or AGM batteries have had really good luck so I'm hoping that this at least lasts me a couple years more, or at least until I keep this car.
Maybe the upcoming ICCU recall will help with this issue, but for now I feel better knowing that my battery is more powerful. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Nice to see someone just replace their battery instead of just crying online. I live in AZ where batteries die in less than 2 years…the ICCU is a different story.
I'm definitely more self-sufficient kind of person. If I don't need to go to the dealership I will avoid it at all costs. Kind of like going to the doctor haha but I will definitely go to the dealership once that ICCU recall comes out
Any issues since switching to AGM? If you didn’t see my last vid, mine died last week. Replaced with an AGM but am second guessing that decision as I later found out that AGM requires higher charging voltage to keep it topped up and I don’t think the Ioniq 5 knows what chemistry is installed but maybe it does.
Oh boy. I wasn't aware and didn't think about that. I haven't had any issues so far. Been charged to 100% a few times, and going on almost 2 months. Which one did you get?
I installed the same battery 4 weeks ago and had no problems so far.
Crossing my fingers as well! Thanks for the comforting comment though haha
Thanks for making this vid and linking the install vid. I'm buying a used EV6 with 7k miles on it and will probably replace the battery right away just to be safe
No worries! Congrats on the upcoming purchase! I mean I can't say it would be necessary, but it doesn't hurt.
@@Emadifications true. I have a mobile jumper so maybe I'll just keep that handy then replace at the first sign of the 12v dying
That's a good strategy. That's basically what I did. Except I waited till had to jump it over and over. Not recommended. Ha ha !
You might have already stated so, but how many miles did you have on your EV6 before you started having issues? I only drive about 5,000 miles per year. Just curious if part of the OEM battery problem is also related to overall usage...
I have 28k on it, so I've driven about 13k a year. There doesn't seem to be any consistency in mileage with people who are seeing this issue. I thought I got away with it, and then it started last month.
Have you had any issues since replacing it?
Week and a half in, no issues whatsoever. Hopefully it stays that way.
for the general public you have a responsibility to take it back to the dealer again and again in the dead condition. Have the dealer send the flat bed truck to pick up your EV6 who says it won't die when you're in the middle of nowhere? Demand more directly from the automaker make them pay!
Did you think about getting a lithium battery instead. I know the cost can take your breath away.
Yeah I did. But if this gets me by for 2 years even, even if I buy a second one, I'll still be right at the cost of a lithium battery. I also saw that some people had issues with the Ohmmu battery. Which costs more than 2x this one so I am taking my chances. I'm not confident I will have this car for two more years honestly. Not because I don't like it but because I change cars a lot
Oem approved?
That's why I'm going to go hire you for negotiation
