I think that nowadays, with the theme of connected universes and what is canon and what is not, we give a lot of importance to recastings. As you say, it used to happen all the time, they just did it and that's it... People just understood and accepted it even without context. Besides the several times it already happened in the MCU. Remember The Oracle in The Matrix, Katie Holmes for Maggie Gyllenhaal in TDK, and before the multiverse excuses, in the 90s we had to accept that Kilmer and Clooney were supposedly the same Bruce as Keaton... 🤷
Recastings CAN BE jarring or they can be incidental. Every situation is different. This is a lead character and its from one movie to the next, in relatively close proximity. Moreover, there's precedent in this storyverse that all Kangs look alike. Kristian is arguing that some variants of Kang will look different, and so recasting is not retconning, but I think that's a bit farfetched. Recasting vs. different looking Variant. Interesting variables at play with this particular storyline.
I think the strike pushed Thunderbolts filming to now and Yeun is choosing a different project over this, rather than being contractually obligated to do so. So it *is* scheduling conflicts, but it was him choosing another project over TBolts
I don’t want to walk away from Kang I’ve already committed so much time to learn what the deal with him is and take time setting up the next big bad in a better way
I think Coleman could be a great replacement for Majors, an Oscar nominated actor who's going to get his name out a lot more after this awards season. Steven Yeun leaving is a bummer for sure, I think he's a good actor and whoever they recast I just hope it stacks up with his level of talent. Get a good actor to play that role. That new Echo trailer was FIRE!! Whoever is doing the trailers for this show needs a raise! Honestly with regards to Echo as a whole, I am not really going to lose hope if it's not as good because so far the action looks great and if it leads to something better with Daredevil then we are all good.
I would put money on the reasons for how Disney is handling Echo are due to the elephant in the room: DISNEY IS STILL SEEN AS FOR KIDS! Bob Iger greenlit this with intent of a Teen show rating taking Daredevil and crew with a lighter direction. This show was finalized and filmed under Bob Chapek afaik, and its likely that Bob Iger got his hands on this project that was already filmed and found out at some point during the post production process that it is a lot darker than promised, (vaguely similar to Solo for example?) And there has been internal fighting about this show for weeks and months between the board, Bob Iger, Kevin Feige, etc etc about what to do with it. This was the compromise. They expected this show to drop and die, but the trailer got a massive amount of hype they didn't expect and here we are
Great show today everyone! My family and I loved Damingo as Victor in Fear the Walking dead and I think he could pull off a great Kang. Steven probably left just because he maybe wants to wait for a more prominent character to play in marvel. But I agree with you all I do not see him as sentry anyway but agree with Winston that he could have been the void easy. We are going to check out Echo but I have a bad feeling that we have been shown everything that is good in the trailer, but who knows maybe since i am going in with low expectations I may be presently surprised. 12:13-12:32 Kristian has a good point. Not many people saw Quantumania or Loki (unless they have Disney+) so a recast could be more easy to do without making it feel jarring. Another good exemple is Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk. Yes, Ed Norton played the Hulk in The Incredible Hulk but people forget that movie was a box office disappointment. When the Incredible Hulk came out, NOBODY went to see it because a lot of people didn’t even know that there was a Hulk movie in 2008. For a lot of people, the Avengers in 2012 was the very first time they saw Hulk on the big screen. I was one of those people, it’s only later that I found out that there even was a Hulk movie.
No matter what happens, I do want to see Kang as the big bad for phase 4 and 5… the character has incredible potential if done right and Jonathan Majors was achieving that variety and volatility that Kang represents perfectly and truly believe Kang Dynasty with Majors would have been unbelievably great performance

Im mad I never thought about Colman Domingo as Kang. I think Jonathan Majors is a great actor… but I think Domingo is actually a better actor? Im pro staying the course on the Kang story, they’ve barely actually focused on Kang and his overall story. Weve been introduced to him, seen variants of him but we have yet to get the actual story that Marvel Studios was setting out to tell.
I think the reason they’re doing the a 1 day review embargo for Echo is because Marvel thinks the show is bad, but I reckon it’s actually gonna be good. Marvel has gotten to a stage where they don’t understand what the fans want.
To me Jonathan Majors was SO good as Kang that in my eyes only HE will ever be able to play that role. To each their own but it's not a coincidence that the MAIN and really only thing people were talking about after Quantumania was "Jonathan Majors steals the show" "so the movie kinda sucks but Kang is great" etc
He absolutely elevated the material there because realistically the material he was given in ant man was just mid he made it compelling enough for me to believe every word he said

The way I see ECHO coming out all at once, is Marvel learning from their "6 episode Movies" that came out weekly. Now having the chance to show all 5 episodes at once so us watchers can get the real watching experience of a 5 episode movie? IDK honestly, I just hope it works out.
I'd love for Coleman Domingo to finally get some of that MCU money, because he's clearly put in the time and work in Hollywood. But on the other hand, I feel like Kang is beneath him and he deserves a better role in the Marvel universe. I'm guessing Majors' choices in his portrayal of the Kang just left a bad taste in my mouth. And I wish they'd just close out this chapter and do something else.
On Echo cautiously optimistic. It also looks like despite not connecting to MCU it connects to Daredevil; and he is connected to MCU. Also Echo is a strange show even for Marvel on Disney+ so best to wait and see. I mean there are worse embargo drops; so cautious optimistic.

I think and if it were to me: I'd keep Jonathan Majors as Kang but have Cole Domingo as Prime Kang to differentiate and separate him from all the Kangs. Make him an older version of Kang. One who has had more experiences, scars and battles as the CZcamsr said that though what Majors did with the character was incredible, brilliant and I'm sad that we will never have an actor like him, that type of level or take on Method acting, specifically despite there being Denzel Washington, John Boyega, Orlando Jones and Chukwudi Iwuji. He wouldn't be able to show or convey that he is an prime older Kang. Not saying that he is.
The only thing about the conventions point Coy brought up is that Steven Yeun is a veteran of conventions such as Comic Con both San Diego and New York. He played Glenn for the first six seasons of The Walking Dead before being killed by Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in the season 7 premiere. He was at most of the Walking Dead panels each year while he was on the show.

Not enjoying the fluff of MCU style Comic Book Movies is why The Batman is my favourite of the genre recently. The first 2/3rds of that movie is something we never see.
The way you can explain Kang and fix the end of ant man 3 is used the. template from the One the jet Lee movie where you have the multiverses. And he gets stronger when he kills each of his variants. But in this case he gets stronger because at the end of ant man 3 quantumMania. He is sucked into the probability storm, which makes multiple copies of him like ant man was, and then he basically absorbeds of the different versions of himself and becomes the beyonder from that played by an older actor becauseof absorbing his probability variants.
Domingo is a tremendous actor. I haven't yet watched this vid, so maybe they mention it, but anyone who's seen Zola will tell you he can portray nice, manipulative, violent, funny and unique in one go. I dont read comics, but based on the Majors' Kang, it'd be a good fit. Age is the only factor, but the multiverse aspect takes care of that.
I really like Colman Domingo. He could play a real sheister at times in fear the walking dead. Ge would be a delicious yes delicious villain. I don't want him casted as a throwaway character tho.
I love this channel and have been listening for years but if I may give my input in terms of video production the contrast on these newer videos is way too high. I think it’s a combination of saturation and color balance. I know very little about video production but the blacks and colors seem way too dark in my opinion. Happy to talk more if anyone wants to hear a more specific description.
He better be! He is such a great down to earth person that I had the privilege of interviewing for his short film. I love his acting and what he has accomplished!
If Marvel is sticking with Kang and recasting him, then Colman Domingo is an awesome choice! Fear The Walking Dead is pretty much all I know him from, but it's enough to know he's a great actor to take over the role. His character was generally a good guy on that show, but he took a villainous turn a season back before becoming good again and he rocked it. I hope he gets the role. Sticking with Walking Dead actors in the MCU, I don't think we'll know for sure why Steven Yeun left Thunderbolts until he or someone at Marvel clearly says why. I hope we see him playing someone in the MCU at some point. As for Echo, I think Coy's theories as to why they're dropping all the episodes at once and have been holding off on dropping the embargo make sense. I was thinking the same things. It's only 5 episodes anyway. I don't think airing them all at once is a big deal. When it comes to cannon, that's where I get confused. If the Netflix shows are indeed in the same universe as the rest of the MCU (which Marvel seems to go back and forth on), then how was everyone still around during the seasons that aired after the events of Infinity War? Do they take place before it or something? That's the only way it could make sense if not being in a separate universe. I guess we'll have to assume everything is in the main MCU timeline until we officially hear otherwise.

I’m happy they’re continuing the Kang storyline. All the people that want Dr Doom, just get over it! They’re not bringing him in this saga and in my opinion I think they should save him for phases 7-9.
I don’t think Echo’s Daredevil is canonical, it reminds me of when Thanos showed up in the Marvel’s final trailer, teasing a connection that didn’t exist just to get more fans on board

I think that Colman would be a good casting direction. I think it would be an easier transition if they pick someone a little older so it seems like just an older version of the same character rather than a recast.

I get what you guys are speculating on regarding Steven Yuen but I seriously think you guys are overreacting when it comes to his departure. Regarding him not fitting the “ideal” for Sentry, the amount of people that actually care are infinitesimal compared to main stream audiences. Sure the amount of shit thrown at him might effect him but I think the reason for his departure is far closer to having a a different career path post strike and now post his Golden Globes win. Giving so much power over to online racism and nonsense seems like a faulty assumption?
Coleman as Kang Prime would be great. He’s older and could be shown decimating the Majors Council so that he is all that remains. That gives you a Thanos beating hulks ass moment and transitions away from Majors w older Prime
The best in mulriverse reasoning for recasting is a difference in age, gender or species. Domingo could easily be set up as an older variant of Kang. I'd still like to see a younger, Iron Lad, variant.
i didn't think the _echo_ trailer looked very good at all and i haven't seen the more recent one.... the _secret invasion_ trailer looked way better and we all know how that one turned out

Said it before, but it still stands. Cheadle is playing the same character that Howard played. Ruffalo is playing the same character that Norton played. Same thing will apply if Domingo (or anyone else) replaces Majors as Kang. No multiverse shenanigans needed. Same character. All those multiple Kangs shown before would now look like Domingo instead of Majors.

The t’challa character had so much potential and stories that got cut by marvel making the decision they made when they should’ve push black panther 2 back a few years then recast the character. Recast. Winston's the only one who cared about Rhodes recasting. I'm black, I didn't care. (But for the record - we don't all look alike lol) But acting's acting. Hundreds of people have played King Lear or Othello.
I think your wrong. The mainstream fanbase will care. I don't think they should replace Majors over a misdemeanor and if they're done with Majors just be done with Kang.
I hope Kang gets recast and they continue with him as the villain. He’s too good of a character in the comics for it to be thrown away because the actor is a bad dude.

As great as Coleman Domingo is, I think Marvel should move on from Kang. I think Loki S2 gave his story a satisfying ending and I’m perfectly happy with moving on, especially because of what happened with Majors. I would say use this opportunity to pivot to Doom instead, since we’re getting the Fantastic Four soon it would make sense and wouldn’t feel out of left field. That’s what I think they should do. I would honestly love to see Coleman Domingo as Dr. Doom more so than Kang, but that’s just me.
Just have the new kang blow up that "Temple" or whatever it was at the end of Antman 3.. killing all the other kang variants, you immediately establish that this is THE kang
I have next to no hope for the Echo series. Almost every bit of marketing has been “Look how violent this’ll be!” and next to nothing about the story. Looked up the synopsis and episode count back when the first full trailer dropped &… Yea no. I don’t see how they’re gunna be able to tell the story they seem to want to, adequately, in 5 episodes. I’ll happily admit being wrong if they prove wrong though
I said it on Rocha and sneider's show, so I'll say it here, I think Steven Yeun's comments are bs. I think he got heat from the powers that be about his role in Thunderbolts being revealed, and they gave him the boot. We know Marvel doesn't like spoilers to their upcoming projects being revealed. It's happened too many times now, and I think they are finally fed up.
I think the best way to bring Coleman in and establish him as a very different Kang from Jonathan Majors is make him different aesthically and personality wise. Put him in all white and make him The Beyonder. He's not a conqueror, he's a creator.

If Marvel is sticking with Kang and recasting him, then Colman Domingo is an awesome choice! Fear The Walking Dead is pretty much all I know him from, but it's enough to know he's a great actor to take over the role. His character was generally a good guy on that show, but he took a villainous turn a season back before becoming good again and he rocked it. I hope he gets the role. Sticking with Walking Dead actors in the MCU, I don't think we'll know for sure why Steven Yeun left Thunderbolts until he or someone at Marvel clearly says why. I hope we see him playing someone in the MCU at some point. As for Echo, I think Coy's theories as to why they're dropping all the episodes at once and have been holding off on dropping the embargo make sense. I was thinking the same things. It's only 5 episodes anyway. I don't think airing them all at once is a big deal. When it comes to cannon, that's where I get confused. If the Netflix shows are indeed in the same universe as the rest of the MCU (which Marvel seems to go back and forth on), then how was everyone still around during the seasons that aired after the events of Infinity War? Do they take place before it or something? That's the only way it could make sense if not being in a separate universe. I guess we'll have to assume everything is in the main MCU timeline until we officially hear otherwise.

I’m happy they’re continuing the Kang storyline. All the people that want Dr Doom, just get over it! They’re not bringing him in this saga and in my opinion I think they should save him for phases 7-9.

There are only 5 episodes for Echo. That feels pretty short to do weekly. Daily could work, but dropping it all at once makes sense to me.
I don’t think Echo’s Daredevil is canonical, it reminds me of when Thanos showed up in the Marvel’s final trailer, teasing a connection that didn’t exist just to get more fans on board
I hear you. But I think you're missing information. Brad Winterbaum said it is. And when you see Echo you'll see it's the same. This isn't the same as Thanos in a dumb trailer for Marvel's.

I think that Colman would be a good casting direction. I think it would be an easier transition if they pick someone a little older so it seems like just an older version of the same character rather than a recast.
Henry Cavill, in reality, is the exact appearance of Hyperion, who is another Superman analog.
I don’t know what to think about Echo. All the behind the scenes news doesn’t sound good. The trailers look great, but so did the final trailer for The Marvels.

I get what you guys are speculating on regarding Steven Yuen but I seriously think you guys are overreacting when it comes to his departure. Regarding him not fitting the “ideal” for Sentry, the amount of people that actually care are infinitesimal compared to main stream audiences. Sure the amount of shit thrown at him might effect him but I think the reason for his departure is far closer to having a a different career path post strike and now post his Golden Globes win. Giving so much power over to online racism and nonsense seems like a faulty assumption?
Coleman as Kang Prime would be great. He’s older and could be shown decimating the Majors Council so that he is all that remains. That gives you a Thanos beating hulks ass moment and transitions away from Majors w older Prime

The best in mulriverse reasoning for recasting is a difference in age, gender or species. Domingo could easily be set up as an older variant of Kang. I'd still like to see a younger, Iron Lad, variant.
i didn't think the _echo_ trailer looked very good at all and i haven't seen the more recent one.... the _secret invasion_ trailer looked way better and we all know how that one turned out

Said it before, but it still stands. Cheadle is playing the same character that Howard played. Ruffalo is playing the same character that Norton played. Same thing will apply if Domingo (or anyone else) replaces Majors as Kang. No multiverse shenanigans needed. Same character. All those multiple Kangs shown before would now look like Domingo instead of Majors.

The t’challa character had so much potential and stories that got cut by marvel making the decision they made when they should’ve push black panther 2 back a few years then recast the character. The actor died but the character didn’t deserve to die too imo

I think your wrong. The mainstream fanbase will care. I don't think they should replace Majors over a misdemeanor and if they're done with Majors just be done with Kang.

I think he would be great as Kang! If they do continue with Kang, I just hope that Marvel can right the ship and make him truly the next Thanos level threat because he just isn’t yet. Domingo Colman is a great actor, he would crush the role, he just needs good material.

As great as Coleman Domingo is, I think Marvel should move on from Kang. I think Loki S2 gave his story a satisfying ending and I’m perfectly happy with moving on, especially because of what happened with Majors. I would say use this opportunity to pivot to Doom instead, since we’re getting the Fantastic Four soon it would make sense and wouldn’t feel out of left field. That’s what I think they should do. I would honestly love to see Coleman Domingo as Dr. Doom more so than Kang, but that’s just me.
Just have the new kang blow up that "Temple" or whatever it was at the end of Antman 3.. killing all the other kang variants, you immediately establish that this is THE kang

I have next to no hope for the Echo series. Almost every bit of marketing has been “Look how violent this’ll be!” and next to nothing about the story.
Looked up the synopsis and episode count back when the first full trailer dropped &… Yea no. I don’t see how they’re gunna be able to tell the story they seem to want to, adequately, in 5 episodes. I’ll happily admit being wrong if they prove wrong though

I think the best way to bring Coleman in and establish him as a very different Kang from Jonathan Majors is make him different aesthically and personality wise. Put him in all white and make him The Beyonder. He's not a conqueror, he's a creator.
