- I always find it fascinating that VHS tapes existed in colors other than black, so in this video we are going to take a look at some colored VHS tapes of yesterday.

I'm actually surprised SpongeBob had an orange VHS tape at all.
Despite being born Early 2005, I remember watching Nickelodeon and Nick Jr ALOT on VHS when I was little, whether it was in my room with the VCR or at my grandma's house. Most memories with them I can think of are Blues Clues & SpongeBob.
Oh yeah and you can't forget the iconic Paramount Feature Presentation bumper too, that gives me nostalgic chills to this day.
Yeah, seeing as SpongeBob is Nickelodeon's biggest franchise.
Same! Watched a whole bunch of Disney classics on VHS.
I love the Toy Story SNES music in the background!
The SNES music is garbage. The Genesis version is better.
@@RetroGaming-gp2efthe music is fine though
@@RetroGaming-gp2ef in my opinion, i’ll just say i like both soundtracks
@@RetroGaming-gp2ef not gonna lie, it’s true though
i definitely remember having orange blues clues tapes and white barney tapes when i was little
Same here I love the white Barney tapes. I love the colour
I like your profile pic
I remember those tapes too!
@@daredawg3776 thanks :)
@@memethyst i love the rock-afire explosion and have a video from my creative engineering tour on my channel
I grew up with VHS tapes of Barney, Bob the Builder, and VeggieTales. I still have a few Rugrats, a Bob in the Builder one, some VeggieTales and Monsters Inc. Great video.
For some weird reason, I've always been fascinated by different-coloured VHS tapes, even some I didn't even know existed until just now, like red or pink. I 'member my orange Nick Jr. tapes and my older brother's green VeggieTales tapes/DVD cases. Gives me a rush of nostalgia to see those again. Also worth mentioning is that one particular release of "An Easter Carol" was printed as the only white VT tape; I found out about it on the channel "Andrew's Movie Corner" (AKA "MrAndrewB1998")
and one more thing: it's "Phil Vischer" , not "Phil Fisher"
I remember having 90% black VHS tapes and 10% colored VHS tapes.
I didn’t know Cars and Monsters INC were on VHS. I got them on DVD.
I honestly do wonder what things would be like if hit entertainment hadn't bought up so many smaller studios in the early 2000s like lyric and britt Alcroft presents
I love Lyric Studios
This brought back some huge childhood memories!
I used to have some of the Lyrick, HiT and Warner Home Video VeggieTales tapes when I was little.
Sadly, outside of window-shopping (or window-renting?) them in the library, we never owned most of the other colored tapes, mostly because my parents (especially my dad) opposed to Barney and some of the Nickelodeon shows, especially Spongebob.
I was a huge fan of Sesame Street when I was a kid.
Most of their tapes were black, with the exceptions of the earlier Random House Home Video releases, which were green.
"Don't Eat The Pictures" was the only one I had.
When I was little, I was personally more interested in the awesome cover art designs/pictures instead of the tapes themselves.
The Sesame Street and "There Goes A..."/Real Wheels were my absolute favorite ones to collect.
Now as an adult artist, I make my own pictures and cartoons to collect, so I don't need to collect VHS and DVDs anymore for that reason.
I appreciate the instrumental music for Veggietales as they’re all songs from the show. The one that hit harder was the title card at the end with I can be your friend
I remember getting some Blue Thomas The Tank Engine VHS’ back in 2015, particularly Spills & Chills.
This was a great video, I remember owning a good amount of VHS tapes.
In the early 2000s, Fox had colored tapes for copies rented or sold at video stores (Blue for Blockbuster and white for Hollywood Video). For example, I have copies of Super Troopers from Blockbuster and Solaris from Hollywood Video.
I think the main reason VeggieTales tapes were green because a lot of the main characters are green.
I can only recall having monsters inc on a blue VHS, also it looks like your NTSC VHS tend to have trinted labels, I can't recall even seeing these in here, all the PAL tapes had stickers
Yeah, Monsters Inc had one of the most unique VHS releases in my opinion. I think the 2003 VHS release of The Lion King also had an entirely blue cassette.
The only time blue’s clues was released with a blue tape was the 1998 VHS of Blue’s Big Musical Movie
The first VHS tape that I got was the very first episode of VeggieTales. Toy Story was the first movie that I watched.
Nice. I think that the first movie that I watched was Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf on VHS. That would also make it the first VHS cassette that I saw.
It's not the subject of the video but I've got to applaud the intro music, it's pure class.
I remember "Thomas the Tank Engine" had a select number of releasses between 1999 and 2000, that were printed on Blue tapes. I remember Legolover117 said these were done to promote the theatrical release of "Thomas and the Magic Railroad" in the summer of 2000.
a little weird thing:
At the end of the VeggieTales DVD/VHS - Sumo Of The Opera, they have a certain company "DKP Studios" According to Logopedia, they were responsible for Handy Manny, Nerf N-Strike, Game Over & of course VeggieTales.
I’m surprised you never even mentioned the reel colours being black. Whatever VHS tape has black reels is some of the later VHS releases or these Disney/Buena Vista VHS tapes having a blue lid from the early to mid 2000’s.
Even a few Sony Pictures tapes had the blue lids in their select VHS tapes
Thanks for this video. Needed this information so I can send as much vcr tapes to someone who collecting everything nickelodeon related
I remember having some VHS tapes back then and even now I have a small collection. They are wonderful good times with those movies I had. The colored VHS tapes looked great especially the red VHS tapes. Cool video. ^_^
This video was very well made and informative
I had every single colored VHS tape shown in the thumbnail and including a couple blue tapes. Those being Monsters INC and Blue's Big Musical Movie. Owning a colored tape is extremely satisfying, even back then! God I wish I still have them all!
If only SpongeBob had yellow tapes instead of the generic black tapes or better yet, Shrek and Shrek 2 having green VHS tapes. That would've been awesome
Cool video i collect thomas and friends vhs tapes and one of them is blue from the 10 years tape
I think "Blue's Clues: Café Blue," "Blue's Big News: Read All About It," "Blue's Big News: The Baby's Here," "Blue's Room: Alphabet Power," "Rugrats Go Wild!" & "Dora The Explorer: Super Babies" are the last VHS tapes to be released in orange videocassettes, right?
DUDE! This is an amazing video!
The Godfather Part 3 had a brownish gold color.
Also, loved the Veggie Tales segment! :)
this is a nostalgic video! I have a soft spot for vhs tapes and I love to collect them when I get the chance. I was literally about to comment down here saying the western Sonic OVA tape is a white one also before it showed up in the video lol
0:12-0:13 - The late 70s (In North America and Europe). They originated in Japan in the mid 70s. The first VHS players came out there in September of 1976 (depending on your source)
Thanks for reminding me of Ulysse 31, I'd like to get into that show one day.
@@videotape2959 The whole show is on CZcams
monsters inc blue vhs tape will always be my favorite. also when talking about nick shows on vhs, how come shows like All That, Kenan & Kel, and the Amanda Show weren’t released on vhs??
My mother actually had a veggie tales vhs tape.I got into veggie tales because microwave society started to make veggie tales videos.
I remember having MANY Rugrats tapes & I loved seeing the orange tapes. Same with the Monsters Inc one. I loved seeing all the different colored VHS tapes; nostalgia definitely came back
My copy of Madeline: Madeline At The Toy Factory (Golden Book Video) is also a white colored VHS
Why were there never tapes where the body and top are different colors, and the body isn’t black?
Some tapes in the later years had an blue top in addition to black
I liked how you where able to get inspiration from PatMac
God VHS was the greatest video format ever! I mean sometimes it isn't about quality but experience
They say that DVD has better picture quality, but I don't know if it's true or not. There's no bitrate and pixelization on VHS.
This was a great idea for a video. Fun stuff!
Did you know Thomas & friends blue mountain mystery on dvd was colored translucent instead of black
VHS had a longer run than DVDs. Let that sink in.
we never had any orange tapes but we had a lot of green veggietales tapes, and our church made recordings of the 2008 Christmas play on white tapes so we have one of those from back in the day! in more recent years I've also found ones with the colored top piece as well as the blue monsters inc tape at the thrift store, still have yet to get a orange one
Dude I feel so old I remember my childhood like it was yesterday
I remember when I saw Treasure Planet trailer and Finding Nemo on Monster's Inc.
Me too! I have both the 2002 VHS and 2-Disc DVD! I like the VHS version better!
Yung Junko found out in his Cars VHS tape video that South Korea made VHS tapes a few years longer and he got the tapes for Ratatouille and Wall•E with both even getting colored tapes. Ratatouille's is yellow with a light blue top and Wall•E's is dark blue.
here in germany fully colored tapes were pretty much exclusive to columbia tristar releases. and then they usually had like 5 variants
other publisher either stick to standard black or colored the flap at best
but the best colored tape is saw so far, was the japanese (or uk one, had the same style) for the '96 101 dalmatians. white with black spots
Colored tapes and colored vinyl are my weaknesses
I've got a few tapes that have different colors.
A lot of my VeggieTales tapes are green which is pretty much from The End of Silliness to Lord of the Beans, My Canadian copy of Monsters Inc has a blue tape, and my two Ren and Stimpy tapes are orange.
I didn’t even know Spongebob had VHS tapes.
Remember when dvds had designs on them instead of the movie name on a silver disk
I once had a VHS tape of Good Burger and from how I remember it it was orange
I just fell nostelgia about those vhs covers
I didn't know Hit Entertainment bought the rights to Veggie Tales that's interesting. Also are you a Christian since in this video you talked about Veggie Tales?
Yes, I am Christian.
The orange Nickelodeon tapes are goated
Of all the things to learn, I didn’t expect to learn a company with a logo bumper that weirdly spooked me as a kid (and appears TWICE in some Veggietales VHS) to originate from Texas. The more you know!
I like the PatMac style of editing ❤
I never understood why they didn’t make a clear vhs tape. Lots of cassette tapes were clear so it only seems natural. To this day I’ll always choose a VHS over a DVD.
I live in the UK and have a copy of 101 Dalmatians (the live action one) and the tape is white with black spots like a Dalmatian!
And my stepbrother lives in the Dutch speaking area of Belgium and has a Dutch copy of The Lion King, and the tape is purple! 😍
I love the thumbnail 👏🏼
You forgot about the black tapes with blue tops! The only tape I can remember having this was Finding Nemo lol.
I have a 2004 reprint of the live action George of the Jungle movie and that one has the blue top. Only Disney and a few Sony Pictures VHS tapes had the blue tops in their VHS tapes. I think Universal also had blue tops in their tapes too
I have two yellow tapes (Lenny And Sid and Musicland Band). I do have a Bob The Builder tape but it's homemade and not official. I also have two red tapes (Both of them are Kingdom Of Goode). And I have an orange Little Bear tape. My Piglet's Big Movie tape has a blue top. Three of my tapes are dark green and are of a show called Ribbits and my lighter green tapes are all VeggieTales. All of my other tapes are completely black.
My local video store when i was a kid had vhs tapes of the sailor moon anime and the tapes were white
I even saw Astro Boy VHS tapes in red
The Sonic the Hedgehog OVA VHS was white as well.
Amazing video ! I have a some cool coloured tapes of my own, the coolest of them being a TEAC cleaning tape that is transparent emerald green. Tthe TEAC video head cleaner QP-86 for those that want it )
I have a reason why I hate DVDs. Main reason is because They can get scratched, skip, and break very easily.
I love the colors of VHS.
I swear I had an orange Home Sweet Pineapple VHS tape when I was younger
Do you take influence from Patmac? You seem to have the same format as he does!! 😁
I do take influence from PatMac. He is a great CZcamsr and one that I admire.
@@KingLaneCreations 😁 I thought so, as soon as the video begun to the end I knew there was something!!
I have Monsters Inc on VHS and I think it looks much better on VHS than DVD. I have the DVD first but I really needed the VHS version because DVDs suck to me.
Great video 📹 👍
In my childhood I love collecting Veggitales tapes, however all of them are green except for the first episode where’s God When I’m Scared
You should look into the classic board game NIGHTMARE (1991) with its purple and navy blue tapes!
0:30 I love VHS tapes. I miss them. The pixelated TV.
There's no pixels on VHS, unless they were printed from a low-quality digital master.
Think of all the cool stuff that's lost forever because it's on VHS.. And some VHS releases were much better than their DVD counterpart, not to mention the editions that weren't re-released elsewhere.
I’m having a serious Mandela effect right now because I swear I remember having more SpongeBob vhs tapes in orange
Blue's Big Musical Movie was also released in a blue colored tape.
I keep thinking the Monster Inc tape is the color for Atlantis The Lost Empire but just the top piece is blue
7:15 that stock photo of Barney is on my barney shirt & my Chinese dvd boxset
You should talk about The Wiggles
There's a lot of interesting information with them.
Did You Know That Teletubbies Had A Green And Red VHS Tapes To Represent Christmas?
Ionic Garfield for vhs And it's cover was Orange So Nickelodeon wasn't the only one that had Orange covers
So I have a question for you what’s your favorite color vhs?
As much as I like the orange vhs tapes I kind of have a soft spot for the neon green vhs
Reminds me of those OG Xbox box cases (you know the ones!)
Had a lot of fun collecting those OG Xbox games!
The orange tapes are my favorite, but I also really like the neon green tapes as well.
a fact to mention for the paramount tapes especially the later ones the only time that the tape would be orange is if it was recycled
6:51 Lyrick Studios, A leader in Children's Entertainment!
I watch movies on VHS
I think ADV Films deserves its own video because they have White tapes with Blue Lettering like Hello Kitty.
Interesting fascination you have. I will not hate.
0:06 They're not much more larger than a DVD in its box, and that's not a bad thing.
Yeah I remember some special colored tapes back in the years but other than that who knows why to watch a VHS release unless the media wasn't remastered
A good reason to watch a VHS release is to view an unaltered, un-remastered edition that may not have been released elsewhere. Also, some VHS releases were better than their DVD counterparts (better sound, better picture, better editing).
@@videotape2959 well i guesws for those reason better get a projector or some equipment to upscale the quality
@@cydragon2.099 A standard-def CRT TV will suffice. I'm not familiar with projectors.
I love vhs tapes the are so fun
This video gives me big PatMac vibes.
So far, only tapes for "Count it Higher" and "The Alphabet Game" are probably green.
Hey, why don’t you do a video of Jim Henson’s Animal Jam.
I have the Monsters Inc Tape and a Finding Nemo Tape with Blue Top thing.
Madeline and the Toy Factory - White
Bob the Builder: Can We Fix It? - Yellow
The Princess Diaries, Bear in the Big Blue House: Heroes of Woodland Valley and Kim Possible: The Secret Files - Blue Spine
This video feeds like a patmat episode
From Walt Disney to VeggieTales
I used to have a shelf full of Those spongebob vhs tapes
I had a lot of orange vhs tapes
I had Welcome to mooseport in white plastic vhs tape
