your and George's ridiculous God is so utterly small. human imagination-sized. an Infinite one could never fit in the box of your imagination.
all you can ridicule is the idea of a God, which is your caricature.
look at an atom. Great youtubes showing electrons in uniquely shaped clouds in each of the outer 5 s,p,d,f subshells. each is lower than the next in energy. no cartoon, here. Tamed order, power, structure, information processing. Each atom in all of reality behaving as if possesses a rudimentary awareness of its surroundings and things far away, by responding to and storing information, emitting quantitized energy by rules too complex for ordinary mortals to grasp, but readily summed in Schrodinger's elegant equations.
Big Bang Energy condensed by specific rules governing almost infinite forces trapped in Planck sized spaces ,with behaviors the same all across 40 billion light years.
Randomness without intelligentally defined rules created that?
the Being(s) capable of imagining how to do that and making it happen in a few nanoseconds, is only worthy of awe.

    Understanding regeneration is monergistic.
Understanding Saving Grace is undeserved and nothing a human being does or earns.
Understanding creation is to glorify God.

The problem is we are all missing out on a wonderful science. Even Christians distort that science out of all recognition. If we follow Jesus, accurately, we are participating in that wonderful science. If we allow our spiritual nature to slip away from righteousness the influences that replace them tear away at the genetic mechanics that should support us. My favourite of these, currently, is the collapse of our menubrium. It starts to become arthritic at quite an early age and one thing we don't want is an arthritic sternum with authority over vital organs...especially when Wormwood is approaching.

For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” He condemns “traditions of men” and the Pharisees’ neglect of the weightier matters of the Law in favor of lesser matters. Religions exist for a reason. In Christianity's case, the reason was that having gone from a nomadic familial tribal culture that had many gods (Elohim, plural) and then on to a city-state culture that had A god (YHWH, singular) to reflect the urban polity of hierarchy with a law-making king at the top, that culture found itself under the thumb of Greece and then of Rome for very long time and with unforeseeable end so they ginned up a Messiah god, embroidered with dying/rising power to be able to make the dead (who were dying unseasonably early as members of an oppressed group) rise again and be rewarded for their sufferings and feel special.

mankind makes religions. God made mankind.
look at the absolute order in the world, down to quarks, up to galactic clusters. the order starts at 12 to 16 different types of quarks.
each beast in the particle zoo, each force, is defined, the same across 40 billion light years.
yup. infinitely undifferentiated energy became those unique things.
rules do not arise from chaos. order only arises from order.
what was the order before the Big Bang?
yet, only an absolutely Brilliant Mind could make a universe where you can be brilliant, but perfectly free to be an atheist.
Check out, (i think this is the one) The Big Conversation: "What if God Could Be Proven To Exist"
you will never, as a smug adult, have the trusting worldview of an one-eyed child.

Yahweh is an adaption of El, taken by the early Jews from the polytheistic Caananite pantheon. The Jews created this god as they'd been pushed around by other tribes, like the Babylonians, Egyptians and Persians. They invented a god which conferred special rights on them as a chosen people to justify killing other tribes and taking their land.
They were likely jealous that these other tribes had big empires, and they didn't
Later, the Greco-Romans arrived on the scene and found the Jews a tough bunch to subdue. So they created the Jeesus character to appeal to the Jews to be pacifist and let the Romans screw them silly
      Religion exists for a reason
