Something about a wheeled tank with a full turret and gun is magical.
@@hermes6910 too bad it's being replaced by the jaguar that is kinda ugly with his little 40mm gun (but the jaguar sounds more modern, and more powerful with the missile launcher that can destroy tanks even behind a wall, and the gun that can go anti-air with 3-shots volley)

@@hermes6910 Actually, the 105mm has a good amount of pressure to actually punch sides of main battle tanks if done correctly since these 105mm APFSDS rounds can possibly pen over 400-600mm of armor compared to about 150-200mm of armor when it comes to the 40mm (its just a guess, but thats usually the average). However, I do agree that ATGMs and a highly modern 40mm CTA cannon would be more versatile, especially that these are designed for recon.
@LOLO / VAL The ammo of the AMX-10RC would still be effective in the "one shot" standards more than the 40mm, and can easily take out bunkers or emplaced positions with overwhelming firepower, thats exactly why the U.S. is now very interested in a tracked vehicle that has similar firepower, but I still completely agree with you.
I only like the AMX-10 because of how good it looks, along with a decent gun that could engage against anti-tank or have the "tank destroyer" description because of its availability with APFSDS.
Missiles by the way, usually do not have a straight trajectory, and its near impossible to actually even see a missile going towards you unless you have a soft-kill system or hear its propelants, but at that point, its still difficult to see the missile with eyes. Especially that most ATGMs these days go for the top of vehicles in where their altitude changes drastically.
@@RyuzoSan19 you don't like the 40 mm cannon but it has an ability to kill anything that flies, even a missile, with its 40 mm, it can shoot down an A10 or an AH64 APACHE before they can destroy you, whereas the AMX10 will wait like an idiot to be destroyed!
I spent my childhood near Valence, where the 1st Spahi was operating those. Every year the base had a day open to the public, they were super welcoming and fun. As a child I was fascinated by all what went on inside that turret.
One day, a bunch of those AMX 10, VBLs, VABs... came back from war, all painted pink. That had been Desert Storm for them. Somehow it was hard to take seriously for the townspeople :-D
Anothertime after a heavy snow storm, the school bus got stuck in snow and blocked a larger road. That was 200m outside the gate of the Spahis. An AMX 10 RC came out and pulled the bus across the snow like nothing, until it was back where it could drive by itself.

Génial ! I commended a platoon of AMX10 RC long time ago and I fully agree with everything said by the Maréchal des Logis (Sargeant) : Tank commander is the best job in the world !

That was quite cool,espacially to have this guy who was able to speak English with almost no mistakes,which remains rare for a French guy!So they are educated in the legion,and very kind people as well!I must admit I'm kinda proud to be French when I see guys like him!Keep on rollin' buddies!

He is in the Légion étrangère but his accent is not French. I would say he has an Eastern Europe accent.
The legion is made up of mostly foreign people and not French. Only a few years ago were actual French allowed to join it.

Unless when you write "only a few years ago", you mean "since 1831" ;-) ?
Since beginning, recruits could be hired under "identité déclarée" (i. e. declared identity) which many Frenchmen (personal choice, trouble with the law, etc.) have done. Not to speak NCO, mostly french origin, or mentionned that newly french citizens were transfered to Legion in case of conflict.
My father was commender of an amx 10 RC at Çanjuers camp, not so far to Carpianne

France just announced they will be delivering these to Ukraine, making it the first "western tank" to be sent.

It's not a tank but it scale up the support to Ukraine from all partners especially UK and Germany who kind of compete between themselves to support Ukraine or at least avoid ending on the bad end of the geopolitical popularity spectrum within the OTAN.

Magnifique.
A neutral turn in a wheeled vehicle, now that's one hell of a transmission.
It was initally a cost and maintenance saving idea: the amx-10p is an IFV with a 20mm canon, and both vehicles share a lot of components, inclusing the drive train.

Being able to raise and lower the suspension is a huge benefit!
Hydro-pneumatic is done also by japanese and the swedish, it has advantages but it complicates maintenance overall

maybe they should add the crew of the 10 rc in to the game + a special legion camo or the camo from the 10 rc in the vid and all proceeds from selling it could go to the charity
I whish WOT would come out with Modern vechiles and tanks. I would play a lot more. Love this little armoured car, learn't something today that the French call thier drivers pilots. And man I bet when they really put down the petal to the metal the AMX 10 RC flies.

the AMX-10RC was developed from 1970 to 77,
for comparison, the Lynx 6X6 from WOT is an ERC-90 F1 Lynx, which also entered service in 1977
No need for "modern tanks", it is already in the possible dates of addition of WOT
except that WG clearly doesn't want to do mobility oriented tank destroyers, just look at the carnage of balancing the M18 Hellcat with WG who has been stubborn

The French military is getting new vehicles these AMX 1 are out of date for modern warfare they are no match to Russia ordnance, Ukraine has lost almost all its MBT and APC around 7+ thousand vehicles in total , to take on Russia military might Ukraine will need 5 thousand MBT 8 thousand APC 1.5 fighter aircraft a full standing army of 1.5 million troops. a anti- aircraft missiles system covering the whole of over Ukraine over a 5 hundred vehicles. NATO can't supply even a quarter of this Ukraine troops levels are taken out quicker than Western Europe can train more Ukraine troops Poland has lost over 1 thousand regular troops in Ukraine lets see the rest of NATO try 2023 is the end game for Ukraine and its neo-Nazi government 🤣

The drilling rig on which I work. In fact, it has the same dimensions, wheelbase and speed. Weighing about 19 tons. In fact, I do the same job as the charger. I am a driller's assistant.
I had this vehicle in my fleet in the game Armada Modern Tanks. I went on many a heroic mission in this thing and it was just a fast-moving beast with a huge punch. Lol.

Just curious are reconnaissance vehicles still actual these days? I mean one could easily send a couple of drones. They are way cheaper to purchase and maintain, not to mention that this implies far less risk.
Recon has changed a lot it seems, I suppose it will be used for probing, infantry support and fast exploitation of a break through.
I am still wondering in which situation, nowadays, is it interesting to invest in reconnaissance "light tanks" when you have several types of drones with camera able of doing that, with a better angle and without needing to be armored and unhabited.
Seeing the badge on your jacket do you know one of our number served in that unit and his Father and Brother also served in the FFL just wondering if it was Andy who commented below. FN.
I know of only one that served with us then went across to the FFL😀

and it had a non NATO 105 mm canon, so it means headhaches for the logistic... creating a new supply line that ensures the continuous flow of those special ammunitions
Maybe the AMX was sent to Ukraine because it was operated by the Legion.
And the Legion had many ukrainians in her ranks. Guess in wich army they are now...I think instruction will be short

Wheeled vehicle with a firepower of a main battle tank? Kinda reminds me of the Stryker Mounted Gun System. Always liked the idea of super fast wheeled Tank Destroyers but sadly the AMX10 RC will get replaced by the EBRC Jaguar with a fking tiny 40mm.

@@dan9002 France does not communicate on the extent of its help (except for the Caesar). No need to feed the enemy intel. More importantly: they opened a door for other countries to send armored vehicles.
For France that's probably cheaper than sending them to a junkyard.
They have been modernized in the early 2000 and they've saw action in Afghanistan and Mali since then.
I'm sure Ukrainian soldiers will use them with success, these "tanks" have been designed to fight Russian army after all !

T70 yeah, it was design to do so.
T90, theorically not, though a 105mm round at the wrong place won't help though. ANd >I'm assuming T90 is in perfect condition, which .... you know.... might not be.
Quick answer:
T70: Yes.
T90: No.
Longest answer:
T70: it can and it has, it was an absolute nightmare for Iraqis T72 back in the 90s, fast, easy to maneuver, easy to shoot. The 105 mm canon can destroy them and the AMX is even designed to do so. Considering that 70% of Russian tanks in use today are T72, it will be very useful for Ukrainians.
T90: not really, it's not designed for that and theoretically, a T90 could withstand the fire of an AMX 10 and destroy it before it can do any damage to the T90.
T14: if an AMX 10 RC sees one, its only option is to run away as fast as possible. Fortunately, it's theoretically a little bit faster and there are no T14 currently in Ukraine.
In any case, any 120 or 125 mm would transform an AMX-10 into a gigantic grenade and kill everyone inside, so I'm not sure it will be used in the battlefront. More like for ambushes and stuff.

@@cyrus7805 but ru doesn't have t-14, it's a myth like su-57, right? and t-90 is very limited in numbers and can be annihilated with 1 javelin, as we all saw in countless vids from the front!
@@cyrus7805 tank on tank combat is rather rare anyways. Tanks are mostly used against infantry in this war. For that 105mm is absolutely fine.
Hope the Ukrainian crews will have enough time to be well trained on that tank before going to combat. Because what makes the difference is not only the tank...
Plenty of simulators available and Ukrainian or Russian speaking instructors in this regiment; or even Ukrainians legionaires at the end of their contract to fight with for Ukraine's liberation..
Let them train for a month longer, the date on the grave will be a month later ..

T-72 yes, it was designed to do so and they destroyed some of them in Irak.
T-90 with full armor, becomes complicated to one-shot it

I am extremely surprised that the Foreign Legion allowed this video to be made. Normally they're extremely tight lipped, they trawl Reddit and other various military forums and social medias for information about the Legion and they can and will jail their Legionnaires for posting stuff about their regiments if they can prove it was them
This is a marketing piece for the AMX 10 RC, what it's said is public knowledge and there is nothing about the foreign legion other than the tank commander ( which I think is Portuguese if I had to guess )
