Walking Foot 𧔠My Holy Grail Sewing Machine Presser Foot
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 7. 08. 2020
- There's one sewing machine presser foot I keep on and use the majority of the time, and it's the walking foot. What does it do? Per Brother: A walking foot has a built-in fabric feeding system that moves and holds fabric between your sewing machine's upper and lower feed dogs to better control layers of fabric and help prevent fabric shifting.
I've been getting asked on sewing project videos what foot to use, and for the most part - I prefer the walking foot.

Do you have a favorite presser foot? What is it and why?
The walking foot here too!
Thank you for this! I wouldn't have been able to install the walking foot without your video!
Thanks for the no reverse stitch warring. You solved my jamming thread mystery.
Mine came with my machine.. the new Singer HD6800C.
Came with 10 feet, including the walking foot. Love it, and it's my 95% go to as well.
Thank you! I couldnât figure how to attach my guide even though itâs so easy now that you explained it.
I seriously learn so much from you!!! I need to find your presser foot video too. Thanks.
I just got my walking foot today. I'm excited.
So glad I am not the only one.
I just ordered my CS7000I last week and should be getting it in two days. Your video answered my questions about the walking foot. Thank you so much!!
Love your videos!! I purchased a cs7000i after watching your videos and learning so much. I love my new machine!! Going to try the walking foot next time I sew. Thanks!
Thanks so much! Iâm getting one! Youâre adorable đ
Nicely done! I learned a lot. Going to try my walking foot this weekend. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for this video. You gave a great description of why this is so good to use whether you are sewing knits or other fabrics.
Thank you! This is super helpful! I just discovered that my sewing machine came with a walking foot!
Now i feel you đđđ
i love that little round keyhole screwdriver! I learned a lot from your video; thank you.
I found this video to be very helpful! I am new at sewing and just bought my first sewing machine. I am definitely going to buy the walking foot! Thanks so much!
I'm with you Jen! The walking foot is also my favorite. I use it for everything.
When using a walking foot, we are not supposed to backstitch at all?
Just got my walking foot yesterday Thanks for video...trying the foot.
Thank you for an excellent review
You sold me! Totally grabbing one of these :)
Fantastic job đâ€ïžđŠ
My Pfaff comes with a built-in walking foot. It can be lifted when you don't need to use it. Pfaff called it the IDT system.
Great video đ»
I have used my walking foot for decorative stitches.
Thank you...I love your videos âïžđâŁïž
Thank you for this great explanation! I am new to your channel and just subscribed. Thanks again.
Thanks so much for explaining! I am a NEWBIE to your channel and love all your videos! My projects so far are a C+ at best but itâs all those helpful hints and tricks that make a huge difference! Like writing with a pen instead of a pencil! For those of us who still write! Lol
Love your Comment đč
Me too! I love the walking foot. Plus it's a pain to take off. Just wish there was a lowrofile device or zipper-type foot.
This epi is great & I'm glad I watched. New to sewing & haven't used my wf yet. Most projects I've done so far are simple & call for 'back tacking". You say you do it anyway but my luck is the kind that well you know....it would screw it up for me I'm sure. I'm also afraid of struggling with changing feet. I got the zipper foot on easy but getting the reg presser foot back on gave me fits. I am not mechanically inclined so machines are stressful at times & often cause me to just quit for awhile. I have a Brother cs6000i. Your vids are thorough & most helpful especially the ones with the Brother....yours & mine are so similar... hardly any dif. Tfs
I just bought a brand new walking foot for my new janome
Thank you for explaining the presser foot and the link to the other presser feet. I have the same machine and am struggling to figure out what they are for and how they work.
I bought a secondhand Pfaff machine with the built in Integrated Dual Feed (IDT ) walking motion built in, it is much easier to use. It works with normal sized feet and allows you to sew decorative stitches and backwards and forwards. I have a walking foot for my embroidery machine but it is bulky when trying to sew smaller areas like cuffs.
Iâm new to watching! Subscribed! Not done watching this video buuutt, I will watch. Just wanted to share that before I finish watching, my âJâ foot is the one that was already on my brother, so Iâve just used that since I got it (May 2021) đ Anyway Iâm sure now Iâll probably stay with the walking foot. I wanted to learn how to use it and install first. My sewing machine is I believe a beginner, I wanted a newer one you know with more stitches and to be able to adjust the stitch length, so even I hope I will get a newer one. I had just started sewing when I bought my Brother LX3817g, I love it, I just want more stitches you know. Iâm so excited to use it now! Thanks for your help â„ïž Nice to meet you!
great
Have you done a video on how to put in /install/sew a zipper? I would LOVE to learn, at least the basics. Iâm 60 and just donât how to do but want to know. A good zipper lesson is very much needed. would really make a good learning experience from you. I need the knowledge and not be scared at my age. Please think about it. I would drive down and be a sewing model
Not for garments, but I show it using the walking foot for a zippered pouch here: czcams.com/video/VtON4J8qj7Y/video.html
could you please post a video of how you clean and oil your brother sewing machine i have looked every where and i can not find any videos about it
So anytime you want to back stitch you would have to switch to different foot? I do a lot of back stitching in bag making. Just curious.
So now I know what a 'walking foot' does. Do these stop material slide when sewing two different types of material I.e. tent type material onto denims?
Some people said for knits is better knit foot than walking foot
Awesome videos. Do you know what kind of walking foot you had for your singer? I have a seriously vintage 1938 singer that I want a walking foot for. Hope you can help. Thanks.
Since this video was posted, Brother and Babylock have released a new walking foot which is advertised as made with more metal for durability And can walk in reverse direction. Can you do an update to your video by testing the "Brother SA-101 Dynamic Walking Foot"?
I just bought a new home Janome so machine for beginners and Iâm using a singer walking foot. It seems to work well should I be concerned? I sewed a little on a scrap fabric and it looks fine.
I'm wondering if most of the sewing that you do is quilting? I sew apparel and I've tried sewing with the walking foot and the fabric is too thin to sew with it. Is there a trick on how to use it with thin nonwoven fabric like cotton?
I'm going to make trousers using viscose fabric. The fabric slips a lot. If one can't backstitch using this foot how do I secure the ends?
I sew a lot of satin and material to make my scrunchies. Will this work on a GS2700 BROTHER SEWING MACHINE?
I'm going to sew a faux leather with a 4mm thickness (2 layers of 2mm+2mm), and I'm still figuring out which one is the best for it, walking foot or roller foot?
How to lock seams at the end and beginning if the walking foot does not go backwards? Turning the fabric each time?
I love â€ïž your pegboard! Where you bought it?
Thank you Jen, need to bry my walking foot!
Oo would the walking foot be good for tulle?
I am new to sewing and I kept getting this issue where the top layer of my fabric would bunch up near the end. I am so glad to see that a walking foot should be the solution to my issue! I've been procrastinating picking up some projects because I couldn't get past this issue.
How do you normally do a reinforcing stitch when you start and finish sewing with the walking foot?
I hear ya! I have so many projects that I didnât finish, I was so close to finishing and đ€Šââïž Iâm so embarrassed. Anyway, now that I know how to use the walking footâŠ. I donât know how many Iâve finished đ My pile has gone down and not much of a clutter anymore. Whew, the beautiful lady is a lifesaver!
If it doesn't go backward, how do you tack the ends of your stitches??
Yes, I want to know that too.
She said in the video that she makes it go backwards anyway!
I set the stitch length to 0 and do a few stitches in the same spot in order to secure the thread :-)
My walking foot goes backwards just fine?
@@MenMjau Great idea đ
How would I back tack if I canât go reverse with it?
Just got a walking foot for my machine but doesnât work on thinner material, 2 layers or T shirt material. Any ideas why please?
Hi will this foot work on the consew5023R-1
I have a foot letter I for what do u use it
Why does my brother walking foot feel so wobbly even when I tighten it a lot??
Do walking feet work on vinyl, leather, and jeans?
I have a Singer walking foot and sometimes it just falls apart while I'm sewing and breaks my needle. Too much plastic.
I bought a kind of generic stuff asking foot, I bought on Amazon, it was an Amazon choice item though. Havenât used yet, do you think if I use it and back stitch it might break it? đ I will not hold it against you if you say either yes or no I promise. Itâs my choice if I do đ, so I will not blame you. I just wanted to make that clear. It was 10.00 and some change. I also got it to see how much I end up using it and to practice using ya know. Anywho, how do you go about it when you do backstitch, do you do it really slow or? Just wondering. Anywho, I really enjoyed watching you and I learned a lot from just this video alone. I commented right before this so Iâm sorry for leaving these long comments đ Iâm just so excited to use it! Hope you had a great Christmas and you have a wonderful New Yearâs Eve and day, be safe. To everyone reading this: be safe and a great new yrs eve and day and hope itâs fun and safe for you and your family â„ïž xoxoxoxo
I didnt know that you weren't supposed to do back stitches with a Walking Foot.I do back stitches all the time with my Walking Foot. It works fine. How else are you supposed to reinforce your stitch? Also, I am having trouble using the width control with my walking foot. Do I have to take the Walking foot off to use the decorative with control feature?
Hi. You say you leave the walking foot on all the time. When do u talk it off for??
Hi, Iâm new to your channel and I just subscribed. I love your videos. Iâm a beginner and I just got a sewing machine. Can I use any type of foot for ever sewn sparrow 30?
Depends on the project. I do use the walking foot for most projects but obviously there are exceptions. You can buy an EverSewn walking foot, I have it and itâs good. Check out my other video on presser feet. Itâs for Brother machines but similar enough it should help.
Ok thanks đ
I got a brother but my sister has two.
You say you use the walking foot all the time. when do you take it off?
I am new to quilting and need help. When I use walking foot to quilt 3 layers, the bottom stitch just doesnât come through the same as top stitch. What am I doing wrong? Please help.
Whatâs the difference between a Regular Walking foot ? and a Open Toe Walking foot ?
Why does my walking foot loosen my needle?
Where did you find the walking foot guide? I have a brother and my walking foot that doesnât have one.
It came with the machine
Hi - beginner sewer here. Due to seeing pretty much every video on YT use a walking foot, I purchased for my Brother Strong and Tough. You stated that the walking foot is not designed to back stitch and I learned that quickly after use. Does this mean this respective foot is not ideal for projects that require back stitching? Or any further guidance on back stitching with the walking foot? Thank you in advance. đ
If it's a project in the round like a cuff or bag opening, you can just overlap the stitching at the beginning / end. Another thing you can do is turn your project 180 degrees at the end and it will do the job of back stitching, but you can always sew forward.
Ive got a walking foot
Hi. Do you use the walking foot in silk? Chiffon?
Possibly you'd have to test it, I don't sew much with lightweight fabric
Are we not supposed to backstitch at all while using a walking foot?
Apparently not, but I do it anyways. You do you.
You said the word GLUE BASE. What is that?
i want a walking foot but the price is crazy high tho.
Is there a way to lock the stitches without going in reverse?
While I'm not a UGuys, I do appreciate your video and will look for a walking foot for my LX3817A.
My walking foot constantly hops, it's getting on my NERVES đ
12$ on Temu
Hi! Is the walking foot good for making face masks?
I did buy one to help sew masks. The mechanic advised going up in needle size, to use Jean 18 for my sides and adjust tension, because my masks are pretty thick. I think it makes the top stitching nice, too. He said, it's better to go up, then you can stitch thinner, no problem. One extra thing, I use a thick piece of scrap fabric to start sewing the thick sides, then cut it off.
Also, it cost $100 to service an old Kenmore, best investment ever.
Great video!!!
I have 5 walking feet and they all fall apart while I'm sewing. So annoying. Too much plastic. They all feel so cheap. Thanks.
