My roots stay “messy” I’m not one to over twist or need that really neat look. One, I like the volume my thick roots add to my “loc’d bob” and it keeps my thickness consistent. I just keep my parting separated/ unmarried. I allow it to loc on its own. Retwisting isn’t necc for “loc’n hair” it’s a maintenance choice. I find my hair is healthier and stronger than its ever been just letting it do what it do. Good to see you sis, hang in there it looks beautiful

Everything you have shared I've also experienced. I only get lint in the back, & my locs will also get a coarse & dry texture, and I refuse (or lazy) to braid and band before wash and/or swimming. The only differences I had a challenge with, was going with the larger loc size I wanted and as they matured I didn't like the look nor lumpy texture; so it took my 3 months to undo 90% of my mircolocs to a smaller size. I'm 7 months into my loc journey.
Another plug, I've been living in Mexico for a 1yr {near the ocean) and I swim a lot. Due to me swimming quite frequently I notice my locs has matured quickly in a short period of time due to the excessive exposure to the ocean and washing my hair.

First off, I love your life!😃 Sis…you can relate!🥹 Wow, that determination to get your locs right… I get it!!! It seems your happier now and that’s what matters. I love having Locs and even with the challenges it’s my preferred natural hair style at this time. I just didn’t want no issues, I’m just beyond myself!😅 I soooo value you commenting and sharing your journey with me! Keep living large Beauty, I look forward to your updates!🤗❤️

It does and it will. You don’t have ‘thin’ hair (which is balding hair) you’re probably just low density. You will be fine it just got installed.

I’m exactly 14 months today! It’s been a great journey so far. I’ve always retwisted for maintenance every 7 wks, I prefer that look better. I hate braiding and banding too, so over it but I kinda need to still do to prevent unraveling and bunching. I make my own herbal hair products ( launching a biz soon!)and they’ve made such a difference, my hair never got frizzy, it’s super defined, soft and lustrous. Your locs look great!

Hmmm…. I am about2 and a half years into my loc journey. I had been having the same issue as you. I thought I would have more locs and less twists by this point. My ends are still loose as well. I did combine the locs in the back because I realized that my texture is really soft and micro locs were breaking. I never get lint but I keep a stain cap on when ever I am home. I never lay on my hair without a protection!!!

    • @felamarie
      @felamarie  Před 10 měsíci

Wow…so what I’m learning is, despite hair texture there’s no way to fully determine when one’s hair will Loc! I thought having type 4 hair it would happen over night. As for the lint, I have always protected my hair as well. I think my clothing and/or using cotton pads when cleaning my face and neck may be the culprit…🧐😩!!! I know your hair looks amazing, thanks so much for sharing!❤️❤️❤️

      Hey sis! Consider these:
      1. Switch from cotton/linen pillow cases and sheets. Use satin/silk.
      2. Keep your hair wrapped/covered with satin/silk as much as possible, but especially when changing clothes, sitting on furniture, etc.
      3. Do not leave oil in your locs. If you’re using it to moisturize or do scalp treatments, leave it in for a specific amount of time and then shampoo.
      4. Don’t use products on your locs other than mists, sprays, water based products.
      5. Do not dry your hair with a towel or T-shirt. Squeeze all the water out as much as you can, shake excess, wrap in a satin/silk/similar material scarf and let air dry or use a dryer.
      6. Prevent touching your hair. You can transfer dander, dust, hair, fibers to your hair by touching.
      7. Consider your headbands, hair ties, hats. Etc

Your locs look like a longer version of mine. Thanks for this authentic video. I am experiencing many of the things you mentioned at 8 months. Your video has shown me that my process is not weird and it's not because i am doing something wrong. I also have dry hair and the oils i use do not seem to help much with it. I will continue to look for one that works but any advice would be appreciated.

Aweee, I so appreciate and value your comment.❤️At the moment, castor oil and jojoba oil (mixed, equal parts) has been working like a charm for the change of season. I’m no professional, but what has worked best for me is applying oil when your hair is damp or close to drying after a wash or moisturizing your hair (some advise against using conditioners and spraying water on your hair, but continue to observe your hair to determine what you think it needs). Drink water, consider nutrition and wear that satin or silk bonnet when lounging. Keep me posted on your journey, congrats to your 8 months… you got this!💪🏽💯😘

Brush your locs and stop using products if you do. Also, I agree with you with the overwhelming process of maintaining micro locs. I started my micro locs myself and was pulled into that "trap" of interlocking. I went for it and gave the heck up. Decided to just retwist them and that took the stress off of me. I have 455 and started with tiny finger coils. Coils is one of the fastest methods to locking hair. I'm only a month and 1 week in and I kid you not, my coils are already budding. I'm still fixing some locs that I created holes in. It's not many but yeah, that's another reason why I said "forget interlocking". I still have half my head undid and it took me more than a week to do the ones that I did. Thankfully, there's a crochet needle that fixes the holes or I would be screwed 🤣. I wouldn't change my micro locs decision though. It's been one of the best hair decisions EVER 😁

You beta speak it!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾Girl now this is some insight! Thank you for your story, I’ve been encouraged to use that crochet needle by other viewers as well… You confirmed it again! I don’t use products, just oil (I’m trying to keep hair on my head) and a lil conditioner water (the smell, gotta have it🤦🏾‍♀️) as needed. The unraveling is less and less now …these babies are coming around finally!!!🤗 I love coils and feel good about my retwisting decision. We’ll see if I get the same results, but I’m happy for the success of your Loc Journey. Glad to have you stop by… your comment is Golden!!!✨💖

@@felamarie Thanks Hun 😁 I'm subscribing so I can follow you on your journey! Your locs are BEAUTIFUL 😻. So you use a light leave in conditioner? I might try that in the future if I start having problems with them being too dry. Now I'm just letting them fully loc up without any interruption. The quicker they lock, the faster I'll be able to do what I want as far as "DIY'ing". 😆
