    Pancake Locks are very cool -- there are folks who seriously collect these, and some of the rarer ones command quite high prices. There is even a collector who sells a professional picking tool for these. Thanks for your video with a great patent overlay -- I glad to see you have gotten one of these & now admire them. Plus THANKS for Playlist -- interesting to see various techniques.

    Really love these locks. I have at least 12 now I think and have made keys for many of them. I made an impressioner with thumb screws so I could very the tension but also when I got the right bitting I could tighten them and make a key.

      @@LockNoob similar in the way that it was mounted to the frame and blocked the spokes. Apart from that, no, as it was a lever lock, the keyway was horizontal, it was larger and completely encircled the tyre when closed. Nice of them to print how many levers right on the face, so you don't have to feel around counting.
    Luckily I already have a Brad nailer and the nails to go with it. I also have a welder and clamps, so to make a key I think I would just clamp the nails/feelers together, then weld a washer on the other end to hold them in place and be a handle.

      @@LockNoob I don't have a lock to try it on. I just thought that welding the pins together would be a better way to make a permanent key. You just have to keep them in the proper configuration until you get them welded.

    That's a very nice explainer and use for the nails. I initially didn't expect such a massive contraption would impression well, but it seems to work just fine!
    If I understand it correctly, the impressioning works because that red hook thing is pushed slightly into the levers by the spring under its nose and the tension becomes stronger than the underset levers when the bottom of the gate touches the red hook.
    Also, you can't easily single lever pick it as the lever springs are much stronger than the red hook spring, so they just drop down after 'setting'. Am i right about these things or still missing something?
    Always nice to see different mechanisms. Thanks for sharing Ash 🙏👍

    Yeah we all know the real reason why you got this lock; ...it's all brass (shame the key isn't!) Really interesting video tho. Could you explain a bit more clearly why this lock self-impressions? How come that method doesn't bind the mechanism?

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  Před 3 lety

      I'm not entirely sure why this works - i can only guess that the bolt is always pressing against the levers so once the lever is in a gate, it 'stops' allowing the pins to impression?
