I always liked that scene. His expression said it all, 'That's it.'
I’ve always said that Speed is the perfect moment of acceptance of the end.
@@Luda_101 Yeah, kinda like ... "Hmm ..."
Same here. I always associate that scene with Jeff Daniels. One of the greatest acting.
Yes, absolutely. His dead is terrible and he just accepted that fact. Great scene.
I thought he could have dove out the window to be honest. It was a solid 3 or 4 seconds
Bruh that scene still gets me 29 years later… The Best welp I’M FUCKED Face ever!
Everybody always seems to forget about Pleasantville. He was the best character in that movie.
I always loved that movie
That's a deep cut, forgot he was in that
Amen, he was amazing in that film.
That had a great cast and a great sound track.
Crazy thing is, the scene left me gutted. It was fear in his face and he did nail it.
The fact that Chief's face in 'Jaws' when he sees the shark, inspired Jeff's face in 'Speed' when he sees he's about to blow up. Just when i couldn't love the movie 'JAWS' anymore then I hear this 😂😂😂. And 'Speed' is awesome too for that matter
Tarantino recently said Jaws was the best movie ever made
@@FPInvention no argument here
@@FPInvention I've been watching Jaws since 1975. It get better with age. Funny thing I find is E.T. has not aged well. The Thing that came out at the same time and failed is like Jaws it's a perfect film and gets better with age.
@@reesebn38 E.T. has aged incredibly well. It honestly seems more like a 90s movie than 80s
Wow. I remember that scene like it was yesterday. Speed was actually one of the very first movies I ever saw in the Cinema as a kid. I felt so bad for Jeff. Great movie.
Great movie of 94
I've been a fan of Jeff's ever since "Arachnophobia". He just seems like a good genuine guy.
It's funny he mentions Jaws. An entire generation of people couldn't get in the bathtub after seeing that. Well, Jeff was in Arachnaphobia. My generation couldn't sit on the toilet without checking underneath it for spiders.
Acting is about reacting, and the brilliance of his choice in that scene was him realizing that he didn’t have time to react.
He's an amazing person all around, smart dude, amazing talent 👍🫡
Really?
I loved him in "The Squid and the Whale". Hidden gem of an independent movie!
Love Jeff Daniels!! Seems like such a cool guy
You'd think so I know...
What always bothered me about that scene is the fact that Jeff Daniels was walking with a cane that very morning because he was still recovering from Keanu shooting him in the leg. Then a few hours later, he's on the SWAT team raiding Dennis Hopper's house?
I had the same thought because my dad said something about it when we rented it. He never bought it for that scene alone.
Tbf he's limping but slowly recovering. We can see that he can walk a bit faster.
And I think he never thought that arresting Howard Payne would need to do much chasing at all, considering Payne's old age.
What's bothering me is how come the he and the swat didn't feel any red herring or whatsoever when approaching Payne's home despite the fact that he's a bomb expert
pain meds and adrenaline. when you are hyper focused in a life or death situation the body's pain response deadens as well. a sore leg may make you limp a bit but enough time has passed since he was shot that he has been cleared to work again and in the moment it becomes not that big of a deal
Fun fact: It's a movie.
I love Jeff Daniels. He seems like such a good guy.
Amazing, I was literally watching Speed a couple days ago. Such nostalgia but only now can I really appreciate how well made that film is!
It has some massive plot holes
pop quiz hot shot.
I will collect my money! I will collect the money due me!
@@AndreiBYhappy this movie is borderline classic also you had the mask and dumb and dumber they where the movies everyone watched back then.
@@deathstate1 I initially ignored them but eventually watched multiple times. Jim impressed everyone.
There's a bomb on a bus.
"C'mon, another thirty years of this you'll get a pension and a cheap gold watch"
“Something Wild” one of my favorites. He was great in that
Thank you!
Ray Liotta 💕👍
@@JonnyDIY yes, he was great in that also. When he laughs at the toy in the car, I think it was a Gumby doll? Cracks me up
He nailed that scene in Speed. It's still burned in my memory all these years later.
I just introduced my 11 year old to Dumb and Dumber last weekend...I told her when we were watching it that next on our list is Speed.
"Mom! Harry got smart!...and he died!!" 😭😭
1994 was an eventful year for Harry 😅
Let's not forget Arachnophobia. That movie will put the creeps on ya 🕸🕷
Damn you made me think of it.
That movie made me afraid to put on my football helmet. 🕷😱
John Goodman stole it, but... yup... Jeff was the straight man turned hero needed for the film's end, heheh.
For film actors, that is a fanTASTic anecdote. What a crazy medium.
Watching that scene, you knew what was going to happen with the expression on his face. He absolutely nailed it
“THATS OUR SCUMBAG!” Is one of the best lines in all movies
But Dennis hopper tricked him.
He was fantastic in the newsroom! underrrated actor
Jeff Daniels, a national treasure! I really didn't know much about him until I saw that speech on newsroom, amazing acting by him. Since then I've been following him some and there's so much to like about him. Smart funny good person, gotta like him
He was funny in full house as Joey Gladstone 😂
I could listen to him tell stories all day
I saw speed when I was like 11 and I thought it was so great and I still do. I would have loved to have seen more with him and Keanu
They screened the movie a few weeks ago in my local theatre, was packed, and the movie absolutely kickass just like the other 5 times I’ve watched it in the last 2 years. This movie is absolutely timelessly great
It's such a badass movie. It's definitely aged well, too. I bought it on Blu-Ray. I took my girlfriend to see it at the movies when it first came out. I gave that a 10/10.
Lewis in The Lookout??? His character was so awesome.
I know the exact moment it was right before he said we’re gonna need a bigger boat and I remember the exact moment that you died in that movie and they’re perfectly synced… and now will be forever in my head
Each time I watch it I can't help but think that from the time Harry saw the timer and the actual explosion, he had plenty of time to dive through that front window lol.
Not with that bum leg of his 🤣
What a great insight. Jeff is simply superb. I hope we see more of him for some TV shows. He would nail a thriller series.
my favourite role Jeff Daniel’s played - Gettysburg
Jeff Daniels has such a diverse range of characters and honestly, people not recognizing his prowess to play serious roles is saddening.
If you haven't already watched American Rust, you definitely should!!
First movie I remember seeing him in was Fly Away Home
Speed was one of the first action films I remember watching I was 8 or 9. I always remember Dennis hopper: "way to go jack, way to go jack" with the missing finger clapping.
"Do you think they'll give you another medal if you pick up all of the bus driver's teeth?"
In that scene he didnt just look at the red light, he also did this kind of lip quiver with his chin. Amazing performance.
This whole interview was really great.
I remember that expression so well!! Well done!
Jeff is not only one of my fav actors but a fellow Michigander as well. And I not only enjoy his major movies but his smaller ones too. My favorite is "The Crossing" which he did back in 2000 on A&E. He played General George Washington and really brought alot of life and believability to the role. The film itself is also quite interesting and fun to watch. So make sure to check it out sometime.
I always loved that performance. He said it's no big deal, but it was perfectly played 👏💕👍💣💥💀
He was EXCELLENT as John Scully in the Steve Jobs movie.
Brilliant stuff
I love you Jeff
❤
His expression was so real, good acting.
That's a good tip. So simple, yet sells it so well.
Jeff Daniels in Two Days in the Valley has a smaller part but crushes it one of my favorite rolls you played.
That expression was great and I never really thought about the why and how that made it possible. That was a great explanation and I'm glad he attributed it to Roy Scheider because he was a great actor, too. I will always remember that explanation.
I liked that for his acting. Said “Phuck” without saying a word.
I remember watching the Disney movie fly away home growing up.
Oh yeah, with a young Anna Paquin.
Seriously underrated this man.
Rich really hamming it up so that Jeff feels better about telling the story. It feels very much like Fallon
I’m watching the newsroom (yet again) and it has to be y favorite one of his many works. Being a guitar player i also love the fact that he can rock out on the 6 string.
Tuned in right when I saw the picture. Speed is super underrated imo.
Nothing better than those obscure movie stories - so cool
Terms of Endearment?!? Thats the one i will always associate him with. Fantastic movie❤
I think the reason some people get emotional, is the connection to all law enforcement at the moment they know. What Jeff did here, was a split second of pride. It got me too. Great actor.
This is why this show is the best... I've thought about this movie so much and they cover it
In speed his death HURT they made you care about his character. He was funny. He was smart, He was Unique he was a Great partner and then Keanu's characters reaction to hearing Harry Died Was incredible.
He absolutely KILLED IT as Frank Griffin in Godless. Undoubtedly my favorite performance of his. Also, he is a fellow Michigander and I just love him. ✌🏻❤️🙂
that was always a gem from speed imo, that just focused look like he is clearing the house and then he sees it, processes it and knows they are all dead without a single word, all body language and facial expression.
His work for Michigan has been wonderful
One of my favorite actors. Loved him in Dumb and Dumber obviously but I really enjoyed him in Gettysburg as Chamberlain.
Great actor. Loved him in Gettysburg
Escanaba in da moonlight was a masterpiece.
The scene was haunting and stuck with me for awhile
❤ jeff
The best part about Jeff Daniels appearing in _Dumb & Dumber_ is that the producers wanted another comedian to play opposite of Jim Carrey, but Carrey insisted on a serious actor to help keep him grounded and asked for Daniels. So the producers offered what they thought was an insultingly low salary of $50,000, thinking Daniels would reject it, and then they could hire whoever they wanted. To their surprise, Daniels immediately accepted without negotiation. When his agents found out, they told him it would be the end of his career and started making plans to get him out of the contract, but Daniels said, "No, I want to do this, and if it's a mistake, then it will be my mistake."
Of course he killed it in the role, and the movie went on to be a great success.
The house was in that little neighborhood tucked in just West of the 405, North of Century Blvd, that is now being demolished to make way for the part of the Monorail connector to the Green Line, as well as parking, same hood where they blew up the house in Lethal Weapon
loved him in Newsroom
Great stories. Both, about living a bit longer in Speed and learning acting from Roy Scheider.😋🤭😄Love it.
*love this guy in Speed Need this guy in more action and serious movies!* 💡
I haven’t seen Speed in decades but the acting in that scene is so well done I still remember it in vivid detail. But I thought the light was supposed to represent a motion detector being triggered.
Jeff Daniels is always fantastic, notably in _The Crossing_ as George Washington; in _Pleasantville;_ and, the overall kingpin in charge in _Looper._
Fly Away Home is one from my childhood.
I’ve always liked his expression in that scene, no screaming or scrambling to get out of the house. His character instantly knew it’s over, there’s nothing he can do, the expression said it all.
I read a bit more into that scene. As i recall, the character was also a demolition/explosives expert. A younger version of the retired officer (with fingers numbering nine) he was sent to apprehend. So he better understood that they'd all been played and what was about to happen than the men he was with.
He was really great in the Western mini serie "Godless", very underrated and highly recommending.
The scene was filmed in a house just north of LAX in Playa Del Ray on the corner of Redlands and Trask.
In Looper, he was terrifying as a villain.
The Lafont freeway hadn't been completed yet . . .
But it's finished on the damn map!
Speed is a classic film.
Props to Jeff for letting us know how its done and that they dont have all the answers either.
I enjoyed his character in speed.
He was also good in Two Days In The Valley.
I love how he does all these interviews and he never once brags about all the work he has done as one half of the duo Air Supply.
Wait.
Whut?
Love this guy!
Newsroom was amazing
Fear and bravery in one face.
Arachnophobia, The Answer Man and Pleasantville are my favorites of his.
Searching for the Roy Scheider interview...
"Tell me something good, man"
"I'm sorry, I'm afraid Harry didn't make it"
I love him in Looper
Actually, that moment in speed where Harry (the same first name he had in Dumb and Dumber) realizes he’s dead meat is great. I actually thought Daniel’s look of understanding was incredible and perfect.
He'll always be Ben Wilson from The Grand Tour/Timescape (depending where you lived) for me
I remember seeing that scene as a kid, and it stuck with me. That moment when he realizes he's about to die was part of what made me realize my own mortality. I'm glad so much thought and consideration went into the moment that made a little kid in Norway realize he was gonna die one day. ;)
Ahhh, how often moviegoers forget that "acting" often involves SOUND, lighting, lenses, a certain distant TO the lens, direction, editing, music, and--yes--sometimes 'splosions. :D In the case of "Speed", Jeff's character simply walked into a trap and it was game over. No quippy quips, no "OMG, EVERYONE OUT" mad dashes... this one was simply a checkmate by the storyline, editing, etc.
Speed is one of the great action movies
My wife’s favorite movie but I still give her a hard time every time I hear the line “it’s enough C4 to blow a hole in the world!” Cracks me up every time.
Some of the best scenes from actors comes when they don’t say a word and their faces tell the story. Not to steel any thunder away from Mr. Jeff Daniels, but take Richard Dean Anderson’s reaction when Dan Castellaneta tells him something about the O’Neill’s character in Stargate SG1 S8.E15 titled Citizen Joe.
Thought it was a motion sensor behind the wall art not a thermostat that set the house bomb off 🤔 1:55
Yeah It was. One of those sensors that’s usually connected to a home security system. I guess Jeff couldn’t remember what his character was looking at in the movie.
@@saske271 You're absolutely right, I mean it was 30 years ago..
Unless what the audience was shown and what he saw were different things. His thing to give him timing cues and the thing we see to "make it cool" on the screen.
Jeff Daniel's is the only reason I like dumb and dumber. He nailed it
@robertbrook8552. Jeff's great, of course (as he is in anything, regardless of genre), but no love for Carrey?
@@geoffelder2236 he's alright, I just think Harry was a better idiot. Lol
@robertbrook8552 Yeah, I see your point, but they did have great chemistry together, didn't they?
