  • Well you don't know what life is going to throw at you and sometimes it is just best to go with the flow! This was a totally unexpected treat, and a little bit out of my spear of influence!

I've always yearned to have friends who lived in an Elizabethan manor house. You're very lucky. The truth of the matter is I've always felt I should have lived in an Elizabethan manor myself but for an unfortunate accident of birth.
I love the idea of brochures and postcards in the front hall, so novel and welcoming. You'd also avoid those awkward inquiries about the whereabouts of the washrooms. Not only does the central courtyard take advantage of the natural light but if the building were under siege you'd still have a nice outdoorsy place for the children to play. (2:40) This put me in mind of The Victorian Kitchen Garden, especially with the fruiting bushes trained to the wall. (8:08) The good thing about fences is that you can't stumble over the edge of them in the middle of the night.
Thanks, John, very enjoyable. I shall now assuage my seething envy with a strong cup of tea and a stale biscuit. I caught your "spear of influence" reference.

Our host gave us a guided tour when we arrived, so had an idea where the toilets were. Yes we did have a civil war; all civilized countries have to have one of those, and the children would still have been able to play whilst various minor royals were being strung up outside no-doubt!
I think I would prefer a more private exiistence than living in a stately home, I need to blob out sometimes!
