The Parachute Murder Plot: Husband's Attempt To Kill His Wife | This Morning

In 2015, army sergeant Emile Cilliers sabotaged his wife Victoria’s parachute before she jumped out of a plane at 4,000ft - and survived. Emile’s ex-partner (and mother of his two eldest children) Nicolene Shepherd, who helped build a picture to the jury of Emile’s coercive control over his partners joins us alongside lead detective DC Maddy Hennah to tell us about the incredible challenges of building a case with a ‘hostile witness’ (Victoria) and no direct evidence.

i am just reading her book. Fascinating. The police treated her nearly as badly as he did.

They didn't understand coercive control, she was isolated and treated like the perpetrator. Not told what was going on. He was allowed to leave the country, she could not even get the children's passport. She was defending him out of fear of what he could do to her. They didn't protect her.

I do think Cat needs to practise her interview skills when dealing with sensitive issues. A few times now I have seen her cover her mouth as in shock or smile / raise her eyebrow as you would when hearing some gossip that excites you. If people are brave enough to open up about intimate situations ( which helps other people out there) they need to know they are not being laughed at or causing someone to recoil in disgust etc. Ben definitely appears the more sensitive of the two.

Totally agree! I’ve seen her smiling in so many interviews where she really shouldn’t be, mainly about people who have been killed, one was a child who had been murdered and she was smiling this weird patronising smile, totally inappropriate! Yet in an interview about UTI’s she was pulling a sympathetic face that she should have been pulling about the child being murdered. She also barges in on people and asks a question or says the end of the story that they are just about to explain. Very aggravating to watch.
