Sharpe was old in India, then got young in Spain, and then got older again.
That`s war for you.
The heat does that to you.
Spain is a wonderful country to live in, lad.
Now that's soldiering, eh?
One does not simply walk into Mordor... 🤓
“Mister Sharpe, perhaps you can entertain your fellow officers with tales of your gap year in India”
“It were bloody shite, if I hadn’t gone for a lucky piss I wouldn‘t be here”
😂😂
Totally read that in a Sheffield accent!
Perfect!
lol
I can see why Sharpe was dead set against ever wearing a red jacket again!
That poor captain, he seemed like a good man and was very respectful. He didn't deserve that.
No he di di di did not
@@olorin1710 That wasn't good s s s soldiering!
Yes but pretty useless as a soldier.
Dodd propably hated him because he was a captain, while he himself never rose over the rank of lieutenant.
What's the context here why are they killing fellow Indians and Brittons?
It’s nice seeing the season where Sharpe was still in the ranks. It gives some background context and sorta leads towards Sharpe’s regiment and the rest of the series.
Not so much a season as one flashback scene in one episode.
You want to know the whole of sharpest story read the books
@@theradgegadgie6352is it not from Sharpe’s Challenge?
Ah yes, the pre-Rifles, much younger, twenty-four year-old Sharpe, who mysteriously looks about fifty. Seamless, I tell you. Seamless.
Thats soldiering
War ages some people ya know
In India your youth lasted until your first bout with fever.
Life in circa 1800 England was hard enough, add soldiering and India into the mix and you're lucky if you only look fifty
@@patrickturner6878 Which wouldn't explain why he mysteriously de-aged in time for the Peninsular War and then aged back to late forties.
Imagine dying trying to redeem yourself by protecting two hobbits from Orcs, then be reincarnated as an Englishman in India, then rapidly deaging, then aging at a normal pace as you fight the Napoleonic armies over the hills and over the main through Flanders, Portugal and Spain. Now that’s soldiering.
King george commands and we obey over the hills and far away
Thank god he got to retire at his family's country home in Westeros. Haven't heard from him for a while after that though....ah, it's probably just a problem with the mail.
This straight buckled me
And when he was really young he fought an American for a field before getting kicked in the head by a bull
Dover
Sharpe in India was the best days. At least in the books, that is where he made his madest and most desperate moves.
The only way for someone from the ranks to become an officer, by stupidly impressive acts of courage.
Serving in the Kings army on the other side of the globe?
Now that’s British Empire-ing.
British Imperialising*
British colonialism
and Thank God for it too! It gets a bad rap these days but India needed the strong, paternalistic white hand of Empire to kick start their social development.
The Company, in this case.
@ "Poor men dying to make rich men richer? Now that's capitalism."
No it isn't socialist.
wrong framing!
The correct framing is... "Poor AND Rich men dying to make their Country Richer? Now that's Mercantilism"
Capitalism is were people produce goods and services for profit to which they then "FREELY" Trade with each other... and by "FREELY" Trade I mean... to trade without tariffs and subsidies on traded goods.
The British Empire was by definition Mercantile... not Capitalist.
It wasn't until the repeal of the corn laws in 1846 that Britain went form being a mercantile Country... to a Capitalist Country.
The British Empire was by definition still Mercantile, yet The Mother Country was not anymore.
Britain hasn't been Capitalist since the Great War, with a brief shift back to being mercantile between the two wars, and then after the war Britain moved to a very very mixed economy consisting of Mercantilism, Capitalism, Corporatism and Socialism, which is still the case to day in Britain, although in a much more moderate way than it was in the post war era.

So this was the infamous piss that saved Sharpe's life..
Going to releave himself and survives a slaughter, now that’s soldiering! Another Sean Bean character would probably have died because he went to pee.
Guess he was pretty relieved about it!
As a serving soldier I can confidently confirm that an opportune piss is a good way to avoid danger/shit work.
Travelling back in time to India.
Now that's soldiering!
Watching this in retrospect, I can't help but imagine what it would have looked like to see the actor who played young Ned Stark play a young Sharpe too.
The Sharpe series started in 1993 and the guy you're talking about was born in 1992. So it likely would have been total garbage, or extremely hilarious.
that guy sucks so much it's insane, don't get any late season GOT or Rings of Power stuff near Sharpe I say
He won’t give up rations to Sharpe, he doesn’t want to give him his cartridges and he wouldn’t lend Queen Denerys his fleet. What a selfish bastard.
Lots of GOT actors
With Fire and Steel Sharpe, But not with my Cartridges.
@@Scrubject16 I do not know why, but I read this in Simmerson's voice.

Love n respects to UK Royal Army from Sam India... we fought together in WW1 against Kaiser. During WW2 n fought n defeated a formidable German Japanese n Italian enemy. Sharpe is my favorite tv show on Napoleonic Wars 1812. Sharpes Rifles n Waterloo are my favorite episodes. Shaun Bean lives the roll of Major Richard Sharpe n his acting is exemplary. Majore Sharpe is a disciplined tough patriotic no nonsense warrior n a lover who fights the French aggressors. Not seen this one am watching right now...
Calling the WW2 italian army formidable, is mighty generous of you
You deserve my respect
Stole all your gold though
We?
lol keep bootlicking the Brits who couldn't give a damn about some low caste benchods
Rubbing a beveled piece of steel against a stone? Now that's Sharpening.
Something something...
That's soldiering
Sharpe already had his fly open, he could have just fought with his huge brass balls.
Cannons of sufficient caliber were not available.
They caught him off guard..
Seems so strange seeing Sharpe in the traditional Redcoat as opposed to the Riflemen's green jacket,
I really did not expect the kids to die. And to see nudity.
Sharpe’s Challenge was way more brutal than I expected.
Following up Sharpe's Waterloo with the flashback episode to keep us all going for a while longer.
Now THAT's Soldiering
Uploading after Waterloo? Now that's soldiering
I really thought it was all over for a day or two, then he posted this gem.
OMG KING JAX, ALL HAIL SOUP
Aside from Hakeswill welcome to probably the best villain in the series (both book and show) and was just as perfectly cast as Hakeswill too imo.
Fun bit of trivia from the outtakes it took 10 takes to do the “I’m major William Dodd, at your service.” line as the pistol smoke charge failed to go off 9 times.
Dodd was basically the anti-sharpe
What did I tell you lads, the Massacre of Chasalgon was next haha.
Yeahh. Thank you so much for this episodes. Thank for for bringinning Sharpe to us. Thats soldering XD
Credit where it's due ..... Sean bean had has aged very well. This was shot when he was in his 20's, yet in Waterloo he looks even better! 😂
Bean is like wine.. but he's still a sour bastard
Uploaded Sharpe's Challenge? Now that's soldiering!
Wow! Best clip from Sharpe series ever!
Gotta love him have watched sharpe since the first episode still love it
The extent to which this follows the first chapter of Sharpe's Triumph is genuinely brilliant. Had to come rewatch after rereading the book.
the focus on historical accuracy or events is what makes this series watchable
accuracy of period yes but none of the events in sharpe series is real
it's all made up? how did he know what kind of story to tell?@@Iason29
I’ve just listened to Sharpe’s Tiger and started Sharpe’s Triumph - imagine my surprise when I started to realize it was this episode out of order
Uploading the final episodes? Now this is soldiering !
Looking older in flashbacks, now thats soldiering
One of my favorite fight scenes from the series, seems like higher production design than Waterloo!
Yeah they used 80 pounds instead of the 79 for waterloo
That's because it did have a higher production design than Waterloo.
The India specials were made a few years later and they got a bit of a higher budget for it. Still can't make Sean Bean look like the 28 year old he's supposed to be in this scene
Arse biscuits, tosh, piffle and gibberish.
@@mortman200 Well, do you know an actor that looks like a "younger Sharpe"? As far as I know there aren't relatives of Sean around that resemble him and could play that.
Welcome back! Although, Sharpe looks too old for a mid-20s Sharpe.
The book Sharpe's tiger which explains his early time in India wasn't released until 1997 which explains why
I have never seen one full episode but do really like this show it's one of my favorites
He looks so different with a Red Scarlet uniform.
We're back babyyy...
Joining electronic circuits with a tin and zinc alloy? That's soldering.
Am always surprised they never brought Banastre Tarleton into the series, he was Wellington's rival in the books. Have a reoccurring villain with a bit of name recognition for US audiences.
He was only politically opposed to Wellington he had nothing to do with the Peninsular campaign. He was interested in leading the British campaign but when the command was given to Wellington Tarleton flatly refused to serve under him. And as Sharpe wants nothing to do with politics it wouldn't have made sense to Bring him in. He is mentioned in the books, there is a scene where Wellington grips about the things Tarleton is saying about him in parliament during one of the campaign's setbacks.
He's referenced though - the "cousin at Horse Guards" to whom Simmerson refers in Sharpe's Eagle is Tarleton
The show wasn’t made for US audiences lol
Wow, I swear the stuttering soldier must be the only character I've heard of being from Norfolk, my home county.
uploading some of the most interesting parts of the Sharpe´s series, well lad that´s soldiering!
Nnnnnnice work sir !!
I just saw this one clip now I have to watch this series.
I'm surprised the dialogue is almost verbatim from Sharpe's triumph.
Oh yes
The time before Sharpe got plot armor!
Why did that english guy shot and killed his own kin ? can you explain ?
@@gangasinghrathore4709 a rogue general craving for money I guess
Same reason anyone does. If Cain can kill Able, his own brother, after the Lord tried to talk him out of it, then it is easy for a man to kill his own country men. It’s easier for imperial forces to do so as well because of the less intimate relationship then might hold. As an American I have read of many defectors who got greedy.
Sarnt Sharpe not only makes the only show of spirited defense out of the whole garrison (with 3 kills) but when shot in the head merely cops a scalp graze.
The raiders then neglect to check whether he is really dead whilst leisurely finishing off all his wounded comrades, thus enabling him to be the sole survivor of a near-total massacre.
Nope, no plot armour here!
@@corvusboreus2072 In the book when he's trying to hold still a fly lands right on his eyeball.
"And the enemy?"
"All dead, sir!"
Have these guys never been in battle before to know that wounded exists even after being shot? Was he just lazy to not go through the job of bayoneting all the fallen?
In the novel they did. Sharpe only survived because he had a head wound and they thought for sure he was dead.
This makes me want to play Empire Total War, I always thought the East India Company infantry in that game looked cool with their hats
They told me they thought you looked cool in your hat too, have a nice day
Shame they should have updated it to Napoleon Total War level. TW Empire is too laggy.
We are mighty, and unbowed!
General Staff Sir!
Ah, Empire.total war... the game that got me the most excited and eventually ruined my faith in the franchise. Never been as big of a fan.
Somehow getting considerably younger between now and when you meet Wellington in a few years that’s prequelling
Sharpe has really taken a beating damn
Stopping mid piss to fire at the enemy? Now that's soldiering
Watching this in 2021...
Now that's soldiering!
0im watching thiys in my bed😅2024 and it's fantastic 👌 thanks so much for posting 😂❤❤❤❤❤❤
Having the foresight to bring coin and an interpreter to hire a bullock and cart to accomplish the task at hand. That's soldiering.
Here we go again...
How many times is Toby Stephens planning on betraying the Crown?
I haven't watched the show, just clips on YT...
But to those questioning the aged appearance, it might be because of this scene was made in flashback but Sharpe character is actually in his current POV
You know, when you're recalling your childhood memories you don't turn child
In that case, I wish Sharpe recall his childhood scene to be made... Must be awesome
Bring back Sharpe for one last episode before Sean is too old. Use CGI to de-age him if you have to but please one more episode!
He's too old now.Only a quiet, peaceful epilogue would make sense now.
It's not over yet, lads!!!!!
Toby Stephens being a good nasty bad guy.
That's soldiering....I mean good casting.
Tadicuslegion78 dude is great in everything I’ve seen him in
He really IS great in everything! I enjoy this role in particular because he seems to shamelessly enjoy playing it.
He blew me away in the black sails series..
He's absolutely brutal as Captain Flint in Black Sails, definitely channels the same intensity as Dodd. If you haven't, watch it.
@@cognitivedisability9864 Yeah he really steals the scenes he's in in that show. His monologues and speeches are works of art
Captain Flint, always beating the living hell of British Empire
I wish if it they made it so that the small kid survived and he became a soldier and he recognises sharpe in the episode later
If only more of sharpes challenge or peril are uploaded, I enjoy these 2, not the best of sharpe, but a good TV movie
Toby Stephens as William Dood
Where can I get full series?
I love how a young Sharpe looks the same as the old Sharpe lol.
Can this be purchased on CZcams?
Anyone know where I can buy the complete collection. I live in the USA and cannot find one that will play in my region
The Major later left the East India Trading Company to become a spice merchant in Quarth on Essos
Yep that’s the Spice King!
This is why we now have radio checks. This actually kind of reminds me of the beginning segment of the Rock, where the renegade soldiers captured the NX Rockets.

*Took the King’s Shilling!*
the men were in full uniform, no challenge was required. The EIC was also famously inept at these things.
@@SantomPh That's not true, you challenge regardless of uniforms, that's what countersigns are for.
I guess it comes down to incompetence. No one is fully at the ready at all times, things get boring and repetitive so people get lax. That goes for any job.
Dodd was a recent deserter, he would have known any countersigns
Reminds me of U-571.
Where can we watch the show now?
From which channel Sharpe is broadcasting ??
So... when may I acquire this season?
This reminds me of order 66, this will be a masterpiece in my collection.
What season is this from? I bought all the ones available on Amazon Prime 4 months ago... yet I don’t recognize this one
Two Bond villains in one episode ^^
Where can I watch this particular series ?
Where can i find this show
This one I never saw, which episode is this ?
Sharpe was basically coming back from the dead before John Snow was even alive XD
Soldiering.
Now that's soldiering
Please post more videos
Lol
I'm totally here for the comments section 😊
Looking 50 when you are 24.
Thats soldiering
Yessssssssssss finally get to see Padma Lakshmi
Kinda wished thisvseries wasn't so "all or nothing" when it came to representing officers. Either they're brilliant, likable and paragons of British virtue. Or they're absolutely shitheel nobles who have no place on a battlefield.
Why can't we have an officer with noble intentions everyone likes that just isn't that good at their job. Or some contemptible assholevwho is nonetheless a tactical genius.
Next episode, Peril, Major Tredinnick and the young ensign Beauclere, both are not tactical geniuses but do their best. Good standard officers really
Well Harry Price was nice enough but a drunk. Oh no sorry, I see you covered that as a paragon of British virtue! ;)
Capt Leroy was a perfectly good officer. And amusingly enough, Wagon-Master General Col Runciman, who was a social-climbing sectarian asshole with no personal hygiene, but was possibly Sharpe's *least* incompetent superior officer (he trusted his subordinates, knew what he was and wasn't capable of, and generally was a perfectly adequate officer.)
You need to read about Lt. Flashman in Afganistan.
Cpt. Leroy & Frederikson? Pyecroft? Wagon-Master General Whatever-That-Guy-Was-Called?
Which episode was this?
What’s the series of this one called
what episode is this???
Ah yes, Sharpes triumph
Just downloaded Sharpe’s Challenge lmao
SHAAAAAARPEE!!!!
Ah, I see that Captain Flint has been outsmarting the British in climes outside of the Caribbean as well.
That’s the dude from quarth !! That turns dany away !!
Please take a documentary on carnatic wars?
I've realized in the episodes that take place in india have a lot more blood and gore than the other episodes
Ooh I'd forgotten Sharpe was in the 33rd before the rifles.
3:28 Hmm, I have heard that voice before, but it was on the waves..
Can it really be him?
*IT IS CAPTAIN FOOKIN’ FLINT OF THE WALRUS !!!*
1:05 the King of Spices deals with Lord Eddard Stark
I love this 16-18 year old Sharpe. :D
28.
