Jayz, EM, Nas,Luda,50, Ja, DMX, Wayne, Missy, Fab, fat Joe, lil Bow wow, T.i, Busta, OutKast, Trick daddy, Kanye, Game, Snoop, Chingy, Master P, Jeezy lil Jon, Mike jones and Paul wall. it was very competitive early 2000’s and you actually had to had creativity and Bars. Today rap is absolute trash. Not even rap is rock. And every region back then sounded different. What a concept. Individuality. Back then hits were actually hit records. Some punk sitting in his grandma living room mumbling is a hit now. Rap is dead 2024
Not to mention Lil Jon, Ice Cube, Akon, Busta, Diddy, G-Unit, Lil Kim, Ja Rule, Three 6 Mafia, Sean Paul, and even rappers like Mike Jones popping off and having a moment. The 2000s was STACKED

Nelly is absolutely right. I was only 11 years old when Country Grammar came out and competition was fierce. Everybody was different so it was hard to stand out and hard to get that number one spot but everybody was still successful.
Not just the artists either. You had fierce competition amongst the producers at that time as well.

When Nelly first came on the scene in 2000, the competition was definitely fierce with Eminem, Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, DMX, Ghostface, Common, The Lox, Hot Boys, Ja Rule, Nas, Puff, Eve, Missy, Snoop and Big Tymers putting out some of the hardest joints that was poppin at the time. Once Country Grammar came out, Nelly became a megastar while being the hottest rookie of the year 2000.
Im from the Lou, and Im proud! Nelly has always held us down. Back in the day, a couple of times I was able to party in the same spots with him. One of those events him and Ashanti came to. This was like 2006. Smart phones weren't out yet. Those were the days errbody just having fun... no social media...no selfies...we just would kick it hard and have good times! Much respect to Nelly! He held his own in the toughest era of Hip Hop the "Platinum Era" 98-2006.

Cam’ron, DMX, Ghostface Killah, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Jadakiss, T.I., The Game, Chamillionaire, Clipse, Outkast, and several others truly made it a capital moment. Plus back then, there were anthems. Many Men, Ante Up, 99 Problems, Still Tippin, Ridin Dirty, What You Know, Jesus Walks, Knockin Doors Down, Bombs Over Baghdad, Loose Yourself, etc.
Nelly is telling the absolute truth During that era, you had artists like Nelly, Eminem, Jay-Z, Nas, Outkast, DMX, 50, T.I., Lil Wayne, Common, Missy, Eve, Juvenile, Ludacris, Kanye, Bow Wow, Fabolous, Dipset, Diddy, Snoop, Dr. Dre, Clipse, Master P, Chingy, Big Tymers, B.G.(CMR days), Ja Rule, Jeezy, The Game, Busta, The Lox, Fat Joe, Three 6 Mafia, Trick Daddy, Trina and Lil Jon who was putting out very dope music that was very creative while having dope bars as well. That era just like the 90s are very memorable as well.

Hell yeah. In 2000, Nelly definitely had competition with Eminem and Dr. Dre being the dynamic duo in hip hop while Cash Money, Jay-Z, Ruff Ryders, Ghostface, Common, Ja Rule, Puff, Luda and Mystikal had some bangers that year as well.

The early 2000's was the commercial trash Era. Illegal downloading and bootlegging hits its peak at that point. Streaming was the only way for the record companies to get back control of artists and their music. This was also a time when it was trendy and cool to be an independent artist.
Man hip hop was a battle back in the 2000s. You had Nelly in the midwest. You had the Texas rappers doing their thing. UGK Mike Jones, you had trick Daddy in Miami. You had the ATL A young TI, luda, outkast. Jay z. Was in the middle of building his empire, 50 cent, Em, Snoop Dr. Dre Master p. Bro. Hip hop was brushing it back then. So many classics

Being from StL and in high school when Country Grammar came out and he held it down in a big way for us. You couldn’t walk outside and not hear Nelly in St. Louis. He had a whole different sound and slang from what the rest were doing so he stood out and not to mention he crossed over and became huge. Great to hear he’s filthy rich and with Ashanti. I heard he got some big $ for his catalog.

Nellys absolutely wrong, the most competitive time was late 80's to 96, rapper were rappers then, 2000's was the time of the Diamond albums, Hip Hops pinnacle, but rap was waaaaay more competitive in the era I just talked about.

I was born in 1995. My childhood was great of course usual shit growing up in West Baltimore, Maryland. Yet one thing for sure two things for certain, Nelly was THE SHIT MANNN lol even with all the hot rappers and artist out when he was hot.
