  • I've discussed the persecution of minority faiths that fail to comply with the Russian state ideology and religious policy. But what about the dissidents within the dominant Russian Orthodox Church?

    Obey has always been expected from most clergy… without which anarchy prevails.

      That's true but the Church leadership might lead you astray

    "openly pacifist", it reminded of "ego eram pacificus"
    Psalm 120
    6
    Too long have I lived
    among those who hate peace.
    7
    I am for peace;
    but when I speak, they are for war.

    Same goes here in Syria but not that extreme of praying for a war victory more than a simple peace prayer ... I know it doesn't feel right to follow the government that much, but the clergy have to protect the church and its followers by gaining some power in the political life. Here the metropolitan has some official speech supporting the government, but they all know that isn't the right thing, but they do it to give help to Christians who fall in the hands of the government for any reason. essentially, they ensure a connection and "good deeds" to protect the members of the church.

      You're right. It's hard to blame any particular priest for wanting to keep serving his Church and his flock over political issues

      @@russianchristianity Yea exactly, it is just the issue with the metropolitans or patriarch.. I used to blame and condemn such acts, but I understand their goal now of protecting thier flock. Especially, after suffering with regimes which massacred the Christians (Communists in Russia, Islamists in Syria.. Etc) and the Ukrainian church itself is suffer the modern "Western type" of persecution of this these worke progressive laws (we saw that as well in greece recently).
      May God protect his church from these dark time and ones ahead

    an attacking christian is a bad paradox, self defense is one thing attack for wordly political affairs is simply sin, you kill people which you do not know because x said so, obey the governments where we live doesnt mean we have to sin if they want it, disobedience is a duty if they command you sin, fighting for your children is a duty if lgbt and early sexualizing in school takes place, doesnt matter if the government tells you its right, god is first and we have to resist all wrong doing

    But they are persecuting the Church. Do they doubt Christ will be Victorious over the apostate and heretics? The clergy are not in a democracy, but monarch. Why confuse the laity?

      it's a hard moral choice, I believe. When one believes that their church leadership engages in an atrocity. I don't judge neither them, nor the ones who obey

    • @luyolo679
      @luyolo679 Před měsícem

      @@russianchristianity Then why speak ill of them. Everytime a nation is involved in war or attacked the Church is obliged to protect its people. Hagia Sophia prayed for Victory during the Islamic conquest, and they even celebrated it caring the Icon of the Theotokos. Justinian II asked the Church to pray the Only-begotten Son hymn in defence against the Origenists. The ROC is dealing with an enemy of God, and they believe that they pray to the One who prevails over evil. The attack in Ukraine hurts the Church also, it's not only political as you(I sense) would like to paint it as and Christianity is not against victory as is proven by scripture and history. It's good for the ROC to pray for Victory unless you don't believe that it evil that the Church is fighting against.

      They don't usually speak ill of the Church. They just either refuse the full liturgy or change wording and just for that they get defrocked.

    • @luyolo679
      @luyolo679 Před měsícem

      @@russianchristianity Matters of the faith are very important. Small things like calling the Theotokos mother of Christ distorts the nature of the liturgy and anyone Priest who would commit such a crime surely is to be defrocked. Them not following the rule of the Clergy is them changing the nature of Orthodoxy into something like Protestantism, where everyone does what he sees fit. If they believe the Church is mistaken they would have had more faith in Christ and prayed for guidance. Not pridefully idolize their own thoughts and perceptions. These Priests and Clergyman need prayer because they wouldn't have done what they did because they believe that the Church is not wrong, they most likely believe that it's wrong for the Church to pray for Victory over the gates of hell. Or they must not have realised that the Church is against evil in Ukraine. But you take sides, calling them persecuted thereby painting the ROC a persecutor, and then say you don't condemn any? My brother, your essay is nicely put and your stance clear in matters concerning the faith.
      I pray God enlightens us both brother.
