- For anyone who is short on space, here is a brilliant baseboard kit that fits together really easily, and whats more, will fit inside a Really Useful Christmas Tree box.
I am starting a new micro layout, to be called 'Loch Doune'. It is loosely based on the old Loch Tay station on the Killin branch - a small station with a runround and a couple of sidings. Ideal for a small layout such as this (1.1m x 250mm)

RmWeb thread on this layout, including a track plan: www.rmweb.co.uk/community/ind...
Very interesting idea 👍👏👌🤩
Thank you! Cheers!
I have made a start,I have found that if you put the baseboard in the lid, you can work on it and then by inverting the box it covers up the layout. Be aware! Any external fittings like switches etc need to be carefully placed and very small.
These baseboard kits look really easy to put together.
This one certainly was. My next layout will probably have a Tim Horn baseboard, which have a really good reputation.
Looking forward to seeing the layout develop! Thank you for choosing our baseboards 🤘
They were a joy to put together. My carpentry skills are so poor, I could never have done something like that. I would encourage everyone to try them out!
@@MessingaboutwithModels Would love to try them out, have even got a design put together, however they are now out of stock. Have an email request for info when they are back in..
This is a great idea. As a Caley fan myself with a Caley 0-4-0 pug I'll be interested to see how this progresses. Keep up the good work.
Just a shame that Hornby didnt announce any of their 4/6 wheeled coaches in Caley livery.
@@MessingaboutwithModels One of the proposed livery’s for batch 3 of Hattons Genesis coaches is going to be Caley so just going to wait and see.
@@williamvanalen9414 Let's hope they go through with them.
Looking forward to following the layouts progress. Could you tell me the length of the plastic box and where did you get it from? Cheers
Dan
The link is in the description - I bought mine at B&Q, but the Really Useful Christmas Tree boxes are widely available. I think the length is 1.1m and the width only 250mm.
@@MessingaboutwithModels thanks I will have a look
I'm planning on using 2 of them for a US based switching layout. Have you come up with a track plan yet?
Yes, it's going to based on Loch Tay, on the Killin branch in Scotland, which had a short run round loop with an engine shed at the far end.
