- I landed my axel on December 17th, exactly a month after trying it off the harness! I am so happy to have landed this jump, and it still feels like a dream!
If you're learning a new jump, keep working hard and never give up! :)
Here are some axel tips that helped me:
- Do it from a moving entry, the one that I liked the most was a mohawk, one back crossover, and then set up!
- If you're struggling to get full rotation, think of jumping up instead of out! It helps you get higher so you can achieve that last bit of rotation.
- You can land an axel without crossing your legs, but it will be a lot harder! Try doing a waltz jump into a backspin to simulate the feeling of crossing them!
- Try to point your toe (of the landing foot) in the air so you can land on your toepick and glide out instead of slipping off of your blade!
Hope that was helpful!

That's amazing!👑 I've been practicing my axel for a year now, (stopped for 5 months because of covid) but this really motivated and inspired me that with practice, you can achieve anything! I also go to that same Rink to practice! ⛸
That’s awesome that you go to the same rink! Good luck with your axel, you got this!
@@sydneyskates9005 Thank you!
I loved her expressions every time she fell
this is so motivating! i have a long way away from learning a axel but i’m so excited!
Thank you! You'll be working on your axel before you know it- and best of luck!
Oh my gosh girl! The progress!! Was it really hard adjusting from using a harness to not using a harness?
thank you! I found that I adjusted pretty well, because I'm so used to the motion of axels from practicing off ice! The only habit I struggled to pick up from the harness was crossing my legs in the air, but I eventually figured it out!
Well done !!!
Wow that's so amazing😍 I always wanted to learn the Axel jump but I always felt kinda scared jumping on ice. And additionally I thougt it would take me more than a year to get this jump. Especially the fact, that I don't have anyone who can teach me and I don't have the opportunity to use a harness. But now that I saw your journey with every fall and fails at the beginning but your big excitement over every improvement you made and your big succeed at the end I feel like when I train very hard every single week I'll get this jump.😍 Thanks for giving me my lost hope back again❤❤❤
Thank you! It was really hard to find the courage to jump at first but once you try it for the first time it feels a lot less scary!
You can achieve anything you want through hard work, so just keep trying and before you know it you'll have an axel!
Try following all the way through more and really lifting through your take off h position. This will give you more height, distance, power, and air time plus it’ll really help with your doubles.
Other than that though you have a beautiful axel congrats!
@@gohskates3095 thank you! This video was made a couple months ago and my axel has improved a ton since then. But ty for the tips anyways!
Amazing! Great job!! What did you use to edit your video? It’s amazing!
Thank you, I used IMovie to edit it!
uhm if its not rude.. how old are you? like-- i feel like im too old for skating since im in my teen years.. btw you progressed so quickly on ur axel :>
you're never too old for skating! I started skating when I was twelve. With hard work and dedication, you can do anything
@@sydneyskates9005 that's amazing! I'm starting about the same age and this really boosted my confidence
pfff, kids, i started after my 40's 😆
how old when you were trying your axel@@sydneyskates9005

How long have you been skating before embarking on your axel journey?
Sorry, I meant how often have you been practicing, like how many hours a week :)
