    One thing no one mentions about this brilliant amp is that it also has an internal load so that you can unplug the speaker and record silently though the DI OUT on the back.

      I just bought a 20 combo second hand and I'm loving the tone. I also have a boss katana 50 and they both give each other a run for their money. Interesting tube versus non tube, not a great deal of difference, dare I say! Haven't really given them a proper shootout yet but I'm not really too keen to find the answer! I like them both. Very interested in trying out the DI Out for recording. My question is are you allowed to unplug the speaker plug - as doesn't that blow up amplifiers?! Or that might be what the 'internal load' thing that is mentioned above is about?

    The thing I learned recently: is it still fits a 12" speaker if you're down to change it out.

    • @faydit8247
      @faydit8247 Před 2 lety +7

      To be honest, the VT does a good job there, but instead of replacing it with a 12" Greenback, I personally would rather choose a 10" Creamback. This one is especially designed for small cabinets and produces a lot of great, nevertheless slightly tighter made bass even in open or semi-open-back cabinets, like here, , so you can get a lot of additional low end punch from this combination. The result rather will sound more like a 212, than like a 110. Another great sounding alternative is, to add a 112 or 212 closed back cabinet to the VT additionally, as a 1o and 12" combination usually also sounds great, or replace the VT with a WGS ET 10. (the 10" version of the ET 65) Has a really early cone breakup and sounds similar to a G12H, only even more balanced. In my experience a single G12M doesn't really do a good job, if compared with these alternatives. But this of course is my personal experience. The other alternative still is, to buy the head only and add another (closed back) 212 or 412 cabinet.

      usually your is being miced up so yes... If you are not miced up you cannot play full stadiums with 20w tube amps.
      For small - mid locations you sure wouldnt have any problems.
      Just mic the amp up and you would be fine with a 5w Tube

      This is my 3rd Plexi and there is nothing wrong with the JJ's. In a band changing them does zip. The only tube that makes a reasonable difference is a Mullard on the first preamp tube.A bit fatter mids. At 74 and still playing a Plexi I have been there and got the T shirt on it all :-) Try a blindfold test. I did and all but the Mullard I could be fooled on.These days with only 2 manufacturers left since the Chinese one burnt down we are lucky to have tubes at all. The last 2 use antique equipment to make what they make and no one makes new machinery so parts have to be machined.
