Continuing our Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 Beginner's Guide series, we are taking a look at the Soviet Apocalypse Tank: Apocalypse Tanks are RA3's duo-cannoned mammoth / overlord variation. They are the strongest battle tank with the third heaviest-armor in the entire game. A fully-promoted Apocalypse can effectively damage infantries, while Apocalypse can also run over smaller vehicles. Despite lacking anti-air like in RA2, they have gained Magnetic Harpoon as their special ability. The harpoon behaves like Yuri's Magnetron, and drags targets into Apocalypse Tank's grinder.
For Apocalypse Tank's strategy, you can combo them with Twin Blades. Having Twin Blades sneak those doomsday devices into the enemy base, put an Iron Curtain over 'em, and the Apocalypse cannot be stopped.

We remove cryocopters, if necessary, aircraft carriers and hydrofoils and maybe Tanya. How many Alliance units even with some numiracial superiority, can stop group from... 5 "Apocalypse", 2-3 "Bulfrogs" and squadron MiGs?
@@user-qv7ny7pg8w A couple of spies can counter them by bribe, hydrofoil renders them virtually useless, Javelins can destroy them with proper micro, Guardian tanks can cut their armor in half with the beam, Assault destroyers and athena cannons can tank some of their shots allowing IFV's to kill them too
@@tacotony3274 Spies: you must not have an eye in order not to notice a spy (although it can work if you have him among the peacekeepers).
Hydrofoil: this is only near the coast, and even there you can handle it with a "magnetic harpoon".
Javelin soldiers: The Soviets have a lot of great infantry fighting tools, and there should be a lot of these hot guys too. Guardians: yes, the enemy gets damage under the beam perfectly, but it still lacks against the Instruments of Doom.
Athena cannon and assault destroyer: with both, the magnetic harpoon solves the issue - pull the first, cut the second.
IFV: they only work if you reduce it, but if you can reduce it, then you have a cryocopter and then the question is: why haven't you underestimated and destroyed all the "Apocalypses"?
Every unit is weak against a skilled commander. Both counters but at the same time compliments each other. As it turns out, Cryocopters are an Apocs best friend against anything fast enough to outrun them. Not to mention the sheer joy of watching an enemy hopelessly escape a grinder... while frozen.
Also Cryocopters are still broken, how broken? It wins 1 on 1 against ANY AA ground units, a Bullfrog is considered lucky if it takes out 50% HP from a cryo, as the cryo can render it useless before it can even take 50%damage.
Allies are excellent in one thing: Support. And having them as your co-commander is something you always want to have. Healing? IFV with an Engineer. Harassment? Cryo + Twinblade/Tengu, this is incredibly disgusting, they don't rearm/refuel and can be anywhere in the map, special points for Tengu for being an AA as well that can protect the Cryos. Crowd control? Cryo. Logistics? Chronosphere, chronoswap, and other chrono abilites that will guarantee that your armor or worse: MCV will always be at the place you want instantly. Have you ever been so angry about Empire players rushing turrets at your base? Well if you have an Allied player and you have a Sputnik you can always return the favor in three flavors: chonosphere, chronoswap or just Shrink ray a Spuntink and run it there

Well, you aren't right, it's weapon type becomes "Explosive" when it gets fully promoted. "Rocket" weapon type is the one that IFV and Javelins have.

Explosive damage with HE shells. Similar damage type with V4, Dreadnought and Kirov.
It should also be noted that a structure or unit cannot he targeted by multiple harpoon attacks. You're best off using the big guns most of the time in my experience.

THIS is honestly one of the biggest weaknesses of Apocalypse tank in my opinion.
The fact that one artillery can melt half of Apoc tank health is too much.

Btw heroic Apoc tank's weapon type is Explosive and also deals 2.5x dmg to heavy tanks/heavy armored

Magnetic Harpoon a Time Bomb? Being hit with a time bomb near an Apocalypse Tank somehow rarely happens to me so this is good to know hahaha. Guess I'd combine this trick with reverse moving the apoc so you don't waste the critical seconds having it turn around before dragging it again.

I was very sad upon realese of RA3 that apocalypse tank cant shoot aircraft units. :(
In ranked games I used them not very often, but when I do it was that tactic with choopers and tanks, but not always with a curtain. It was last resort tactics, but people were surprised and it often works.

tbh i find it hard to use apocalypse tanks since i can outrange most ground units with the hammerheads leech beam
so i find the leechheads more cost efficient

It doesn't matter, Apoc tanks are countered by almost everything Allies have in droves. Vindicators, Cyrcopters, Javs, Athenas, Spies, Cryo protocols etc. As Long as air play is this strong heavy ground units will never be viable aside from some yolo meme tactics. Everything the Apoc tank can achieve in the current meta do the Hammer tank can also do and it is cheaper.

It is a crime to remove anti-air missile from the Apoc tank.... Also the mag harpoon is completely over shadow by the Grinder in Uprising which does its job better at grinding stuffs .

@@Sheyl3319 Not the same, King oni and Mirage are faster and smaller, apoc is too slow to escape a fight, too huge to avoid full damage from artillery, while king oni and mirage can dodge and rush to kill artillery, and run away when shinked

They're just not, apoc's design is focused on firepower and armor with speed being a lesser priority. The closest viable alternative to apoc tanks are tesla tanks which have proper armor, high damage, and decent speed. Too bad theyre locked behind campaign missions tho

Um, I think both V4 and elite Apoc use the damage type of HE, not rocket……Apocs don't take increased damage from rockets, but they do get *crushed* by their elite counterparts. Also infantries take reduced rocket, but full HE dam
Artillery pieces do not inflict extra damage to Apocs, they are already inflicting high damage to everthing, Apocs are weak against artillery because they are slow and cant escape from it. In RA3, being agile and fast are much better against arty than being heavily armored.

Not viable in competitive gameplay? It's not viable in the damn mission it was introduced in! They need to give it the explosive shell by default, so it can kill everything on the ground fairly easily.

I am total rd3 noob who didn't basicaly ever play it until this month becouse of The Remaster. So sorry for the dumb question but how can this be so unviable it sounded like a pretty good unit. (On the other hand my stadarts for ''good units''' are way too high to the point that everythting that is not a Sputnik is viable to me)
The top players focus on air, (it is the meta right now) and it is easily killed by air or arty.

Like Come on, Other mammoth tank in C&C series can counter air. All mammoth&RA2 apoc get rocket pod. Overlord can install gatling or load up tank hunter in bunker. And this thing is disgusting. It's big. It's can't hit air like it's brothers. And slow as fuck.
All Mammoth Tanks(Apocalypse and Overlord included) are supposed to be slow as fuck, that's the curse of having REALLY Heavy Armor.

If including uprising, Mortar cycles are meta af. They can clear garrisons and pairs well with terror drone as well as being able to outrun almost everything
