    It's very important to know for people who have temporary or permanent residency but don't spend alot of time in Costa Rica whether they have to pay the Caja all year anyway? And when they sre in the country do they still need to pay extra private insurance coverage? And how does this apply to people over 65??

    • @rebvilla1
      @rebvilla1 Před 10 měsíci

      You do not need to pay private insurance of you do not want, la caja offers health services for free if you are under la caja. For example you have surgery and spent a month in the hospital, if you are under la caja there are no bills to pay, that includes medicines, blood tests everything if you are a worker and are sick and you cannot work you still get paid your salary, I have a co worker that has been sick for cancer the last SIX years and She has got her salary every month during those SIX years and hasen't paid a penny for her treatment, and still She has ver job, Just because She Is under la caja. La caja covers everything, no bills to pay as long you pay you tax for la caja. Ambulance Is free, hoy call 911 and no bills to pay Is free. Onlus One Person pay the caja tax for the entire family, in Costa Rica kids under 18 years old and people over 65 years old do not pay the caja tax. All public hospitals belong to la caja and you find them all over the country also the dentist Is free we do not pay for that service, So caja tax covers all your health needs,.

    For retirees in a cushy situation with good investments, a couple hundred a month is nothing (regarding the “voluntary” CR social security/healthcare fee.). But those aren’t the people who are looking to retire in 2nd and 3rd world countries, since they aren’t priced out of the USA.
    For those with fixed retirement incomes of only social security, looking to survive outside the US, that is a big, on-going chunk of money, particularly if this is a Plan B option, for future use.
    What is CR thinking? I wonder if this will be a hit against their retirement program.
    Are they offering workarounds for the lower income expat retirees?

    Just to be clear, you state that for a retirement visa, you need $1,000 income per month from a pension or investment. Does that include Social Security? Most Americans who are receiving Social Security would have enough per month to meet the $1,000 requirement.
