    - About Dr. Mary Claire Haver and The Galveston Diet -
Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a passionate women’s health advocate who believes women in midlife deserve to live their best life. She cuts through fat-shaming and fads, so women are empowered with the science behind anti-inflammation nutrition.
Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a wife, mom, physician, and entrepreneur who has devoted her adult life to women’s health. As a Board-Certified OBGYN in the Houston area, Dr. Haver has delivered thousands of babies, completed thousands of well-woman exams, counseled patients, taught residents, and did everything an academic professor and OBGYN could do.
As her patient population aged, Dr. Haver was overwhelmed with the number of complaints and concerns her patients had with weight gain while going through menopause. For years, she told her patients to eat less and exercise more. It wasn't until she experienced the changes of menopause and mid-life weight gain that she realized this advice doesn't work and ultimately led to her creating and developing a new program, The Galveston Diet.
The Galveston Diet is the first and only nutrition program created by a Female OBGYN, designed for women in menopause. The Galveston Diet helps women reach their health and wellness goals through an anti-inflammatory approach to nutrition. Dr. Haver believes in food's power to combat inflammation and highly recommends the unlimited benefits of intermittent fasting. As part of her ongoing research, she became certified in Culinary Medicine in 2019, specializing in medical nutrition.

I am 68. When I went through menopause I kept my eye out for symptoms. Hot flashes - I figured out they happened to me when I ate white sugar so I stopped with the sugar. I always have walked about 3 miles a day. I never took any HRT because I had a 70 year old woman tell me to steer clear of them. Well, now I am almost 70 and I feel great and am in moderately good health. I do not take any medications. I do take a one a day vitamin and a calcium with vid d supplement vitamin every day and have for years.

That's wonderful. I don't believe that we are meant to take medication for menopause, it's natural and you just go with the flow. It's also pretty commonly known that if you take replacement hormones, they eventually cause cancer, mainly estrogen is the culprit.

You are 100% correct on the connection between hot flashes and sugar/white flour products that increase inflammation in the body. At one point I was having up to 10 episodes during the day per day. I quit sugar/white flour, and after about two weeks they stopped all together.

I went through hell with the menopause for 10 years😞
Wasn’t exercising following a healthy diet. Had suffered extreme vitamin d deficiency, ended up with hypothyroidism . It felt like my own body and mind were turning against me and trying to take me out of the equation. Like I said after 10 years I relented and was prescribed hormone replacement. I was on it for about a year . At first I felt a little bit better then nothing. Spoke to a female doctor who advised me to slowly come off the medication.
Which I did, I have started to watch my diet . I do a little yoga which I Love , took me a while as at first I felt as supple as a Lego brick. Started following Kassandra on CZcams 10 minute yoga sessions.
I then started to follow Petra on her menopause belly exercise and have started to feel my clothes becoming a little looser. I’ve become gradually more supple and generally my yoga sessions are now 20 30 40 mins long depending on which one of the many yoga sessions I choose to do each morning. If I feel unwell I take a day or two rest then show up on the mat. Continuity of this routine will help make changes along with sugar and dairy fat reduction.
      I could go on …. 😂
      Just one more thing
      BE KIND TO YOURSELF ❤

Consider taking vitex aka agnus cactus, which balances hormones naturally. DHEA 5-10 mg, sublingual tablets in the early morning. Transdermal topical USP progesterone cream applied daily into skin. Maca herbal supplement once a day, before afternoon. These are just a few that can GREATly help a woman aged 45 +. They were looking at the results from giving women synthetic hormones or “natural” hormones from horses. The truth is, big pharma knows full well that they make more bank off of women w/out bioidentical HRT. This includes: women’s heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, NAFLD, depression, dementia, & osteoporosis etc… b/c they are w/out bio-identical hormones. It’s a travesty. Also, giving only estrogen instead of all the hormones depleted during peri and full menopause isn’t going to work! Women got cancer for 2 reasons: the uterus wasn’t shedding the lining monthly b/c they had no progesterone AND the synthetic estrogen (or foreign estrogen from animals) was not easily recognized by the human body. Please consult w/ a doc about bio-identical estradiol PLUS progesterone!! Eventually, you may need a bit of testosterone as well. Total hysterectomy 18 months ago an I've never felt better. Hot flashes almost all but stopped 7 weeks post op. I get them about 1 or twice a week. Usually only for about 30 seconds. That's it. I sleep 8 solid hours. Something I haven't done my entire life. Best decision I ever made

You’re fortunate. I had the same surgery about a year ago - have put on 20 lbs, hot flashes constantly, and am lucky if I get 1 or 2 good nights of sleep a week… plus depression and total lack of energy or motivation, none of which I ever experienced before.

I agree with all but the intermittent fasting. It doesn't work for everyone, it's important to know your own body. I actually gain weight with IF. However, by eating clean and only until 80٪ full, then I keep my blood sugar stable, lose weight, have no inflammation and can eat 3 to 6x a day depending on my hunger. Each day is different and i embrace that and it makes things more exciting.

How do you get over the depression hump or you're just unmotivating can't get anything started/done. What do you do if the hormone medicine causes you acid reflux you can't even take it. It also makes it very difficult to fast.

Did you find anything that is helping you with depression and lack of motivation? I have been struggling really bad with my major depressive disorder and absolutely NO motivation for the past 5 years. I am post menopause and 54 years old and have no quality of life because these symptoms are getting worse! I am so tired of laying in bed most of the time because I have no energy to do anything. I take a multivitamin but I’ve never tried HRT. I would love to try the bio identical hormones that are plant based but they are too expensive to take and my insurance will not pay for them. I hope you have found something that is helping you. Please let me know if you have. 😊

@@Suzzyyy2337 I'm going to try to take the estrogen patches again in a few weeks. I don't know that I found anything to help me get out I do have an aid that comes cuz I have a physical disability so that gets me moving. I do the things that keep me out of bed and even if it is watching TV or being on Facebook sitting up and getting out of bed is less painful for me than staying in bed. And I feel like Facebook is a social thing even if I'm not talking face-to-face. When the weather gets nice I try to go outside even if it's just a sit in the steps and keep my Yorkie company. And everything you do you should be proud of it. I had a seen your buddy and she was really depressed and she said she did nothing and I would ask her if she got her to bed and she said yes and I'm like that's something then we would list everything she did like brush your teeth, take a shower, make breakfast, do some laundry. Read a newspaper those are things you're doing and it may seem stupid to other people but that you're doing them can be a good thing and it's the start of something.

Women MUST be careful with intermittent fastin, because a lot of women 45+ have gall bladder issues and therefore they must eat small portions 6 times a day,no long hunger periods. Otherwise the gall bladder becomes inflammated and causes inflammation in all other organs.

I'm 52 with Hashimoto's. I'm pretty sure I'm post menopausal, but I'm not sure because I had a hysterectomy about 12 years ago.
Recently, I was wanting to lose five pounds and just feel better, so I tried intermittent fasting and gained seven pounds - even while exercising 20 minutes a day along with only eating two meals a day.
Do you have a thought about why this would happen?
