Beautifully done ad for Pontiac however it illustrates nothing about the car what-so-ever. "The Heat is On" #80s #1980s #nostalgia #betamaxking Channel contact email: thebetamaxking@gmail.com
Not only is the whole premise weird, the car is only featured for 5 seconds & the spot is topped off with that scream at the end 😂 Deliciously 80s & we miss it
Definitely a weird ad. I mean, I would assume by the fact that they’re grinning ear to ear when we get a close up they aren’t in mortal danger here, but it’s still a weird subject matter for a commercial. If this was supposed to be them joking around with their friends then we needed more backstory. As it is, it’s sort of creepy and definitely unappealing.
Pontiac had one of the most timeless, beautifully styled production automobiles yet they almost don't even show it in this :60sec ad. They could have shown a Trans Am driving through those artistic foggy, wet, lit streets looking awesome, but no. And '87 was the intro of the 5.7 TPI for the Firebird, no less.
Aww...we don't get to see them brutally assaulted and their car get stolen. I invested so much into that storyline. Also how do people in dress clothes outrun much younger toughs in the rain?
Wow that was a long commercial someone thought was a good idea. The Firebird got even better looking as the generation went on but with terrible ads like this and no ads it's no wonder the sales numbers declined. Did they even make a single commercial for the facelifted 91 and 92? And commercials were almost non-existent for the remaining 10 years save for the cool one showing the girls driving the red T-top and convertible and later the short run of ads for the '98 WS6. It's like GM really didn't want to sell the things. And for anyone that worked at a dealership knows, the allocation system GM had really worked against trying to sell more Firebirds, especially Trans Ams and WS6s.
And it's subtle, but the pricing made it feel like they really favored the Chevy's. The window sticker for my 2000 Ws6 is 34,500. An SS in 2000 was like 25k, maybe 26k. And they wouldn't let Pontiac add any of their own stuff to increase performance, it had to be the exact same as the Chevy. So you paid 8-10k more for styling. Which, don't get me wrong, was great styling. But to price it that much higher with no performance incentive... they knew what they were doing. They were cutting the Firebird's legs out from it.
@@bradleylovej Yeah but Camaro’s weren’t selling either. The Trans Am were for the ones who couldn’t afford a vette but but wanted performance and styling….
You don't buy the car, you buy the excitement. We don't need even the end, we know that the couple will escape and they will remember the good old daze when they were doin' crazy things. Do you remember what happened that night in '87? Maybe those guys aren't even thugs, maybe those guys were just pesky friends and it's only a game... just think about it, why they don't follow 'em in their car?
Features are boring. Nobody would pay attention to that. You don't sell the item, you sell the image. People didn't buy that car because of its fuel consumption and build quality, they bought it because it looked cool as hell and David Hasselhoff drove one on TV!
The three guys deliberately splashing the couple. That is a form of assault. As is chasing them with threat of physical violence. The auto industry did much damage to America's inner cities, and many ads play up the danger aspect of urban life to suburbanites with the money to buy product. TV images are extremely powerful and I think it is important that we keep that in mind. Anyway I'm researching Trans Am ads, and I believe I have a rare 1986 masterpiece to upload soon. In this ad, a woman steps out of her Pontiac and challenges an officer at a traffic stop and starts stripping off his clothes. Another scene has a man treating his woman in a most dominating manner involving full body contact and... My how times have changed.
@@timhulsizer Yeah, I meant Frey. Reminded me of the beer commercial he did with Don Johnson, maybe that's why Don popped into my head. Has that "You belong to the city" vibe for sure.
@@BetamaxKing For me it is. I have owned T/As most of my life and they treat it like a piece of jewelry in this commercial not as a drivers car wich it was designed to be.
Unpopular opinion: I like the commercial, it’s Aesthetically pleasing.

We're about to be beaten to death, this is so fun. To the Pontiac!"
Yeah I if not for cocaine I never wouldn't believe how it got greenlight
Hahaah! This was exactly my thought as well!

That is nuts a 1 minute commercial with tbe car only being shown for 9 to 10 seconds at the end of video
Pontiac should never have abandoned their sporty image. It caused their death!
Pontiac was a Threat ! Chevy said They gotta go !

This is exactly how I park my 1987 Pontiac Firebird. #NoOtherWay
In the style of every single late 80's crime show. All that's missing is an electric guitar and saxophone.
And bad hair as in Van Halen.

It shows the cutlass more than the firebird.
Cordoba
I think...that was actually a "Grand Prix".
It was definetly a 1975-77 Grand Prix coupe.
A E S T H E T I C
It feels like Streets of Fire by Walter Hill! Aesthetically.
Oooooookaaaaay I had a 87' Pontiac ...was a great machine !!!
The couple's body's were later found floating in the river
And the girl showing signs of brutal vaginal penetration.
Aww...we don't get to see them brutally assaulted and their car get stolen. I invested so much into that storyline.

@ccr
You were hoping to see his girlfriend brutally raped?

that was so weird. shows the car for about 2 seconds lol
Lmfaooooooooo
We are driving excitement. Pontiac.
For those curious the car finally makes its appearance at :50

Classic commercial, a muscle car classic.
I’m so confused as to why it was an on foot chase instead of a car chase, like what? Not a bad commercial, but it didn’t advertise the car very well.
is shot + lit like an 80s Scott brothers (Ridley or Tony) movie
healthy dosage of Reagan Era America automotive excitement :-)
And it was awesome
3rdfirebard(TRANS AM)は美しいデザイン‼️

Marketing team....you had one job.... moral of this story is.....be emotionally unstable....like a Pontiac Firebird.
You don't buy the car, you buy the excitement.

I love my Fiero, its a blast to drive!
To be continued...
That was from Canada
Bizarre commercial, but I love the art direction and storytelling, something that is badly lacking in today's advertising.
I guess that they're going to leave their Cutlass right there in the middle of the street?
Kinda sounds like Taylor Dayne on the vocals.
Not one of Pontiac's better commercials. Quite stupid, frankly.
DUMBEST MOMENT AT 0:37 WHEN THEY STOP TO CHEER😂😂😂😂😂😂
No 80s random explosions ???
Who is singing that song ?
THAT was bizarre. Nothing about this wonderful car or its features. Just flash and glam. How NOT to make a commercial.
Features are boring. Nobody would pay attention to that. You don't sell the item, you sell the image. People didn't buy that car because of its fuel consumption and build quality, they bought it because it looked cool as hell and David Hasselhoff drove one on TV!
It's an exercise in branding, not advertising.
80's Era of music videos....
Appealling to young demographic that would buy the Firebird.
thirdgengta this commercial is one man and one girl escapes of boys violents and vagrancy. This Firebird is help for escape
JohnnyTyrone77 Very nice this commercial
That was sick. Basically the message is, get a car so YOU can be the one doing the assaulting.

No, get a car so you can run away like a chicken.
Funny part this is "dangous" 1987 . Today this typical situation , but the car was stolen, no police, guys let out jail hours before.

A lot of people doing cocaine in the 80s. this is cringe. This is embarrassing to T/A loyalist. Lol

Stupid way to promote a car. Course, the car isn't much better. 3rd gens aren't much better than the 1st gens.
3rd gen Camaros/Firebirds we're the best looking.
