The Jolly Spaghetti is sweet because the recipe was originally made to appeal to kids. And most people who grew up eating it are adults now so it sorta became a nostalgic meal for them over time, hence the popularity.
"Buko" means coconut, so buko pie has coconut meat fillings in it. The one you ordered is a peach mango pie.

Kafein, sweetJollibee spaghetti caters to Filipino kids, that may be, but our food, not all but many of them have sugary taste in them. They're masarap, but Filipino food aren't that appealing to foreigners' tastebuds. Most of them prefer Thai and Vietnamese among all Southeast Asian foods. Of course there's Chinese, Indian and Japanese food too that they love.

that is true, but it's also because during World War 2 there was a shortage of tomatoes (and a lot of bananas) and so banana was used instead; that's why there's banana sauce and why Filipinos use that instead of tomatoes.

Pinoy spaghetti became sweet because during the war, we do not have any tomato ketchup hence, a lady created the Banana ketchup as an alternative.

@Madison lee mga pinoy need to stop having that mentality that “foreigners” have different tastebuds as Filipinos. It depends on the taste of the individuals not as a race. They do have canned spaghetti in the US called Soghetti-o that’s also sweet. Minsan ang bobo ng Pag iisip sa lahi natin eh.

Realistically, The best tasting spaghetti are the ones you get in Italy...Filipino spaghetti is really for us when we were kids and it’s only popular because now the those kids were grown ups and living in different countries, so when another country opens a Franchise of Jollibee there’s a really long line up of Filipino’s who are excited to taste it again because it’s more for nastalgic moments.

It's not for everyone. The Jolly spaghetti was formulated for children and it was also based on the Filipino spaghetti which is sweet. Not only does it cater to our palette, but it is also economical compared to its typical Italian version. Instead of putting a lot of minced meat and tomato sauce and spices, Filipinos add ketchup, red hotdog, and sugar. It's definitely an acquired taste, but most of us grew up with it so it will always be a favorite! PS. I'm vegan now, so I just make a plant-based version of this. 😁

Jollibee is very popular in the Philippines, and even American chains have lost,
The helpless expression on your first bite of spaghetti is very intriguing,
However, the expression on the first bite of fried chicken confirms that it is delicious,
You made mango pie look delicious, they should ask you to advertise!👍😄👏

Fair review Ali. As a Filipino, I don't also like Jollibee's spaghetti. Usually I just order chicken, peach mango pie and sundae like what Harry ate. The sauce is what we call it Filipino sweet and style spaghetti sauce. It's just very plain and simple spaghetti not Italian style hahaha. Jollibee chain is present world-wide and every country, I think they have different variation of menu or twist. So your Philippines trip isn't complete without trying Jollibee hahaha. They choose the best part of the chicken and you can also request that it be delivered new cook. The Jollibee spaghetti is really made for the kids. It's Sweet. and generally Filipino spaghetti is sweet . We are not fond of sour spaghetti. Another observation of mine is that the quality of Jollibee's chicken is better in their international stores.

Filipino chickens, and South,Southeast Asian chickens in general are smaller because it's not really domesticated, its species is called Junglefowl... Compared to Western chickens they are bigger and has a different color which is White, their feathers have no design and looks plain.

Jollibee market target are kids. Because most Filipino children are not used to the sour taste of tomato sauce, Filipino households prefer to use a mixture of tomato sauce and banana ketchup. If you grew up as a kid eating Jollibee spaghetti that would be the same reaction when you eat italian spaghetti. 😂

Filipinos loves sweet stuffs! I spent half a decade of my life there and spaghetti is not really their fortes’. No bueno🤣 but the rest of the Filipino cuisine is delicious! Can’t go wrong. You guys are very nice❣️

Only Jollibee serves sweet spaghetti since it caters mostly to children and nostalgic adults. Not all spaghetti served in the Philippines is sweet. Do not generalize. If you dine at Class-A restaurants and five-star hotels, they have the best spaghetti that caters to international palettes. If you have not yet tasted their spaghetti, please do not conclude that cooking spaghetti is not Filipinos' forte. I, myself, am an International Cheffe that cooks authentic Italian Carbonara, Vongole, Marinara and Black Spaghetti.

I will eat my moms version of filipino spaghetti because it is a little more flavorful. But it's not meant to be the same as Italian spaghetti as we don't use marinara, and during the war, instead of using regular ketchup with it acidity, we used banana ketchup which is sweeter. So now it has since been made that way.

As many had mentioned in the comments section the spaghetti is more tailored to kids. Spaghetti is like a kids meal at McDonald's.
Jolibee is more known for their chicken and gravy. Also their pansit palabok!
People always say jolibee is famous for their spaghetti always baffles me.

Yea I’m not to keen on the spaghetti but the spicy chicken hits the spot most of the time. What I really suggest is to try mang inasal chicken. Gotta eat it the right way tho. Make the dipping sauce, and slap the chicken oil on the rice….amazing. Give it a try!
