      Korea TRADERS is much better than Costco! Impressed. I wish Traders would be in US! Sara...i'm upset they rid of the combo pizza in US since covid. WTH! In the US shopping carts will end up miles away from the store. Most of the time the homeless will use it.

    I agree with you on shopping carts. I've been criticized for returning carts because by doing so I'm taking money away from the employees who retrieve the carts as those job opportunities would be lost. My answer was that those employees could be doing more productive jobs and that if everyone returned their carts, the prices in the stores could be lowered. I favor revoking Costco memberships for people caught not returning their carts.

    • @orsonsadler
      @orsonsadler Před 12 dny

      let's be for real though, no supermarket chain is going to lower their prices because you return your cart 😂
      where i live, trolley collection is an actual job. often people do it because they prefer it or they may not have the capacity to work other supermarket jobs. they return the trolleys from the bays to the front of the store as well as picking up ones around the carpark. some even drive around the neighbourhood picking up carts people have walked home with. who are we to say it's not a productive job?
      i'm not against returning carts to the bays if they are a reasonable distance, which is the case at my local. i'm not about to walk it 200m back though if a supermarket only has one bay and i had to park at the opposite end of the carpark. or sometimes you may be in a shopping centre where you are parked on a completely different level to the supermarket. i'm not catching a lift or travelator to return a cart.

    • @tanzanable
      @tanzanable Před 12 dny

      @@orsonsadler If customers returned their carts properly, they would save the store the expense of hiring cart collectors. The lowered expense means that the store could be more competitive on pricing.

    I used to always return my cart before I got disabled. Nowadays, I mostly shop online for delivery or pick-up. If I even have the tiniest amount of energy to go in and get something from the grocery store, by the time I get to my car (even tho I park in the handicapped spot) I am writhing in pain. I wish I could put the cart away and I'm embarrassed that I cannot. Thankfully where I live, there are people who get paid to bag groceries and pick up all the carts from the parking lot.

    Ah yes, those lovely hills. I lived in Namyangju for six years, including through COVID, so I passed through those areas a lot, especially when I was avoiding Seoul due to the virus. So many hidden treasures everwhere, up and down both sides of the Bukhangang (Gapyeong, Namyangju, Yangpyeong) and into the valleys.
    And the first time I went to a Costco in Korea in 2010, to the Yangjae branch, I learned to never go by car on a Sunday again lol. I hour waiting around the block to get into the parking lot, and another hour to find a parking space! Hope your wait wasn't that long! ~

    Loved this Video 💕 And about the shopping cart debate, in Germany we also use coins so we have to put them back, but there is definitely people who figure out a way to retrieve the coin and just place the cart somewhere random on the parking lot or in a park nearby... We had this social project in 10th grade (thats over 10 years ago now) where we "freed" the shopping carts from a big supermarket here (with their permission) and left it like that for us to see how people will react and 94,5 % put them back to their designated place where they belong. I think its decent to put it back 😌

    My opinion:
    There are two types of people. Good people and those who leave their carts without putting them away. Nothing bothers me more. At the Aldi grocery store here, we still have coin operated carts (haha "operated")

      Life is not always that simple. I always put my cart back now. But in Canada the weather can be minus fifty in the winter and if you have small children you cannot just leave them in the car alone or drag them back out in that type of weather. Sometimes, you have to park pretty far away as well and there are no close by places to put the carts. It’s even super hard with an elderly mom, but I always do put them back when she comes. And yes, when my children were small, I mostly remember putting the carts away, but I also remember when my arm was in a cast from protecting my child from falling on the ice, I didn’t. During that time, I could not afford home delivery of groceries and there was no help either elsewhere. So you do why you can.

    • @MrsGrumpy4
      @MrsGrumpy4 Před 16 dny +3

      @@ctgctg1 Here in the States, cart corrals are placed so that it takes (max) 5 seconds to return a cart. I left my children in the car for that 5 seconds and returned my cart with my eye on them the whole time. The odds of someone kidnapping a stranger's child in broad daylight are slim to none.
      My mother, an 80-year-old liver patient, returns her cart every time. (Michigan weather is also brutal - still returns her cart). If she can do it, so can we. Be well. :)

      @@MrsGrumpy4 as I said, not all situations are the same. Circumstances in life can influence situations. I have learned best not to assume or judge people. In general, I agree with putting back the cart. As I said, I do this all the time now, but in certain life circumstances didn’t as I wasn’t physically able to. I always pushed the cart as far away from other cars that I could. Not all grocery chains had sufficient grocery stalls where I lived during the times I had difficulties. It’s much improved given the complaints when people didn’t put them back.

    in my country, where shopping in the mall is like a daily routine (you can have a big mart like Costco inside the mall), so actually we have that special space to put your shopping cart in every floor. Yet... some people decided not to care about that and leave the shopping cart in the parking lot OMG so frustated, bcause if the parking lot is crowded, it makes an queue since people must take care the shopping cart that leave on...
    I'm thankful that nowadays, in big city in my country, is more care about this and put in the special place.
    and yeah, we MUST put it back in the available space..so it's not disturbing others and more neat.

    In the US, the liquor laws very by state, but in mine - you can purchase beer, wine, cider, and malt drinks in grocery/convenience stores. I can buy soju/makgeoli at the Korean grocery store here. (I'm actually really excited - they just started stocking soju and makgeoli and they had your favorite chestnut one! I bought it but haven't opened it yet.) Hard liquor/spirits must be purchased at a dedicated liquor store, but they're independently/corporation owned, not run by the state. It was absolutely wild when I went to California years back and I just walked into a Trader Joes in California while I was visiting a friend and they had a whole row of whiskey right in the regular grocery store. I was so surprised.
    Aldi has the coin cart return here, but honestly, almost every time I've gone, someone offers to take my cart for me and they'll give me their quarter. Sometime I even make money because someone just gave me their cart when I was coming in and they refused my quarter when I offer it. I also feel strongly about the "you should return the carts at least to the cart corrals." It's just a decent thing to do. Yes, someone gets paid to retrieve those carts in the end, but people who just leave them everywhere do make their life more difficult and risk damaging other cars if the land isn't flat or a breeze happens. I do wonder about what the ettiquette for the motorized scooter carts - since people are using those specifically because they can't walk long distances. At least the workers can take a small sitting break bringing those back to the store.

    In Germany it's a no-no to not put your shopping cart back. It's a rarity to see a shopping cart left in the parking lot, at least where I regularly shop for groceries.
    Our parking spots are also not that big, so to leave a shopping cart just standing anywhere would be a hassle for anyone around. We also use the coin system, not every supermarket, but most do it.

    Regarding Costco not continuing certain items that seems really popular; if they can't continue getting things at a good price, they will discontinue them. Only the "lost leader" items like the hotdog + drink, and rotisserie chicken are items that remain.
    Costco makes their money on membership fees, not the items they sell. (TIP: buying jewelry there is a good bargain, since markup is minimal on all their items sold.). Previously worked at Costco....

    I guess the alcohol thing in CA is a good thing and bad thing. Limits people who can't control themselves since they'd need to hunt harder to find alkie. But on the flip side, the gov't has to want their $$$, which is probably why you can't find it everywhere. Around here, you can find it anywhere.
    Amazing the different variety of foods you can find at Costco's in different areas. Obviously in NA, there's going to be a totally different selection. But even over here in California compared to Hawaii, there were a lot of different things tailored to the locals. It was really cool seeing poke and Hawaiian type snacks in HI last time we were there. I just noticed last time we were at our local Costco that the rotisserie chickens were in those bags instead of those plastic cases. Must be a cost saving effort by the company. I'm a bit surprised yours hasn't switched over to big chocolate chip cookies instead of churros. Maybe Korean's like those more. But maybe 4-5 months ago, ours flipped churros for these huge choco cookies. Great move on their part cause now literally every time we go, we have to get 2 of those cookies lol. They got us.
    The combo pizza must be a chainwide thing. They got rid of that at ours probably a couple years ago now. We just have cheese and pepo now. Man I would love to try a bulgogi pizza though! Only in Korea haha.
    Sorry this comment is like a book now, but I have to comment on the shopping cart thing. So when I worked at Target in high school, my first task there was doing carts 8 hours a day. Since it was my job, I didn't care if people dumped them in the parking lot and not in cart areas cause it's not like a had a quota of carts to bring back in. However, I do agree with you that it's very inconsiderate/entitled to just dump carts wherever is easy for you. I've always chalked that up to being a lazy, fat American thing, but apparently people do it everywhere. It messes up parking spots, even here, where people can't park. And of course, one time about a year ago when we were visiting that same Target, a cart came flying from the front of the store area that was dumped there and smacked me car, leaving a real good dent. $500 later that was fixed, but WTH, reverse karma or something? I ALWAYS put my cart back because of my experience rounding them up from every corner of the parking lot. It doesn't matter how far the closest cart area is.
    Since it was in our Tesla, I actually got video of the whole thing and how it went down. Made a video about it if you're curious to see the car smack the car :D.

      OMG, your car! 😩 Ugh, see that’s exactly why I wish people were more considerate when putting their carts back-they can cause so much damage to other cars. My dad (who treats his car like his third child) always instilled that in us growing up 😅

    I am a shopping cart returner bc of all the things that you both have named. I think that it’s important to do your part. That said, when I was in HS I has a classmate who worked at Costco as the cart guy. He said that his job was to collect the carts left randomly, and he did this for 4 hrs a day making more money per hour than any of us. So at Costco I leave my cart where there is space for the part-timer. But in Brooklyn, NY, people wait in line to park their cars then stalk the shoppers who are returning to their cars to take their shopping carts. There is no need for a shoppin cart caddy bc the shoppers take care of the carts themselves. No cart wasted, each one is valued and well used.

    PS, guys, rivers that are higher on hills/mountains will always be freezing and SO clear! If you want water in which to swim (aka warmer) you have to go to in a river that is in the plains (the sun has time to warm it up) but it's not as clean as where you went.
    Why don't you guys go to a pool in seoul? they make a huge difference for us, in Romania.

    When my kids were young, I made a point to park next to a cart return space in the parking lot. When we returned to the car after shopping, the kids would go in their seats, the shopping would go in the trunk, and the cart would go in the cart return. Just seemed simple to me 😊

    Korean Costco looks interesting and has a lot of cool stuff you cannot find at Canadian Costco! A lot of people where I live in Ontario, Canada (Windsor), leave their shopping carts in the parking spaces, steal the shopping carts and leave them in ditches, another store's parking lot or take them to an apartment complex.

    OMG. Costco in Korea looks like heaven. I don't think I could go there without buying everything. I totally agree that ppl should put back their shopping carts after they use them. It's common courtesy and not a difficult thing to do at all. I feel like ppl are thinking more and more only about themselves. Let's take care of each other.

    I purposefully park near cart stations so cart return is easy. I hate when they're so far. But it is the right thing to do to return your cart. Sometimes you can hand them off to another customer.
    I no longer have a Costco membership but when I did, getting a frank was a must! Does Costco in Korea hand out samples of new foods?
    The only time I'm not wearing my Vessi shoes is when I'm in sandals. Right now I'm wearing my weekenders. Alberta liquor and beer are all private. Costco, Superstore, Sobeys/Safeway, and a million other private named stores. The grocery stores must have a separate building//unit(space) for the liquor business - so there is separation but all the stores have a liquor flyer separate from their food flyer. If you can download the Flipp, and set your city to Calgary or wherever. I know Ontario had their Beer Store and Spirits Store in the past, unsure if that has changed. Loved the tadpoles!!!! And same, used to see them all the time in ditches in New Brunswick growing. Not as many now. Hug the earth whenever you can, she is showing the wear and tear of us living in it. ❤❤❤❤❤. I think the shopping cart thing can be looked at many ways. If one has children and they load that child into the car they really can’t leave the child and take the cart back. Also some elderly, it’s all they can do to get their groceries and get to their car. Taking the cart all the back up the store or finding the cart drop off isn’t always easy for them. It also is a bit of job security for that one extra person that is assigned to the carts. I think by saying “it speaks volumes about who you are” if you don’t take your cart back, that is a an opinion and I can respect that. Many times I have had my grandchildren, loaded them into the car and then put the basket in front of my car. All that says about me is that I am a loving grandma that would never dream to leave children alone in the car. It’s all relative to what we are going through and what experiences we have. Would it be safe to say you two would leave your niece or nephew in the car and take a cart all the way back?
