5 YEAR VOICE TRANSITION TIMELINE | The Evolution of My Voice

In this video, we will be going over the evolution of my voice over the course of 5 years. It has been a long and bumpy ride but I'm infinitely thankful to be where I am today. I hope by sharing this it can help those who are feeling stuck or lost in the process. Voice alteration is fundamentally non-linear. There will be moments where you have zero progress and moments where you go further than ever in no time. It's tricky to determine which side of that you're on at any given time. Focus your sights on the long game and constantly interrogate yourself about your own experience.
13:40 for the seamless back to back audio timeline.
    warmly,
    z

But these videos have shown me you can change it to some extent. I was blown away with by the level of manipulation she has. Not to mention the knowledge and talent. Its enough to make you jealous.

This is a little inspiring as a GNC man. I may not be a trans woman but I have a lot of feminization in my appearance, talking, and behavior. My voice can make me a little uncomfortable from how deep it used to be. Currently I can have a semi-passable voice and I’m really trying to reach a tomboy-ish type of voice as I want to keep a fraction of my masculinity but still wanna have my femininity. Great video! Dear IcarusBSP, I am also very tall - 6’9’’, in my mid 40s and MtF transgender. I am out to my wife (who accepts that side of me) and a few other people (who largely try to avoid the trans topic). I had strong dysphoria in 2011-14, then I managed to shove this aside for a few years, but at the cost of anger issues and depression.
Now dysphoria has been back for some time and I am contemplating transitioning in some way or form over the next years.
I go back and forth in my mind what that should look like. Given my height, I feel like I cannot completely give up my male “safe space”, which allows me respite from being gawked at when out as a woman. It is just tiring and frustrating after a few hours and I just feel like going home. I feel like if I made my best effort over a couple of years with voice training, make up etc, I could actually be quite beautiful and feel good about myself. But I feel that my height would always prevent that I can live a normal life as a woman.
Then I consider where to create sizable female spaces in my life without making my family’s life miserable (by them suffering all kinds of prejudices).
It is very hard to find an acceptable way forward.
I would love to talk with you about our experiences. Maybe we can provide each other some support and maybe even find ways how each of us can move forward.
      Best,
      Jessica

I love your technical descriptions and explaining what the voice is doing while you developed it over the years. I totally get and understand the technical descriptive words you used. I’m a Producer in television and occasionally do live voice over work. I’ve always been amazed of people who has a natural “elastic voice” that can sound like anyone. Your video has demonstrated the sound of our voice is not set in stone. You have encourage me to develop the sound of my voice even more. You are doing a wonderful job with your voice and many thanks!

Personally, I've transitioned over 8 years ago and somehow, even though I'm satisfied with my feminine voice, every now and then I catch myself involuntarily lowering my pitch and feeling horrible about how I basically just sounded like a man xD It's definitely easier when I'm reading something though... not sure why, maybe because there's less of my brain focused on what I'm gonna say and more on how I'm gonna say it?

Aww. :( i'm sorry to hear you still get those momentary bouts of vocal dysphoria. If it helps, maybe consider recording audio and reversing it. It will make it so you can't hear your identity as a speaker but you can hear how you gender it more objectively.
      sending good vibes!

This is the first video ive ever seen of yours but I just wanted to say that it was extremely beautiful to hear this journey and Im so happy that you are feeling more comfortable with your voice. I cant imagine how difficult it would be to be triggered by the sound of your own voice. The science behind it is also super interesting so thanks for sharing!!

You'll do great!! There are all types of people here cis, trans, women, men, nbs, bigender people, etc and we can all relate to struggling with voice and how society treats us from it. Just be sure it's what you want and not what others want for you. :)

I stopped watching your videos after the larynx video, because I started college (so I had less time) but also because my college's speech and hearing clinic is giving me voice therapy for free, and I figured it would be safer for me to follow what they say (not because your advice is bad, but because then I have supervision). I have to say, your voice has improved sooo much in the last year, mainly because you aren't overshooting anymore. It's honestly amazing. Thanks for being such an inspiration.

I've always enjoyed playing around with my voice and my vocal range, mainly for the purposes of dubbing, so it was a pleasant surprise for me that I found it really easy and comfortable making my voice more feminine after I came out to myself as fluid. Still, seeing how much progress you made is inspiring, and I'm sure your tips will really help me. Thanks for existing!

I really look forward to practicing with your exercises each day! All the best to you!

I've done about 8 months of voice work and my voice sounds exactly like your 2 month voice sounds. (My deadvoice even sounds a bunch like yours.) I guess it's refreshing to see that stuff can change, and I'm hell of learning what to do.
