The John Barry Orchestra performing 3 pieces of music from Bond films - Astronaut + Capsule in space from You Only Live Twice and Fort Knox from Goldfinger, mixed by me....badly.
“Hey! Now I see it. It’s another spacecraft! I repeat: it’s another spacecraft! It’s coming right at us! The front is opening up! I repeat: The front is opening up!! It’s coming right at us!” “Chris, get back in! Get back in!!”
So...I am a BIG metal fan...but, chord progressions are my thing. Rammstein is the only one to ever come close to this feel...check "Alter Mann".. it's the chords...noone can embody John Barry but John Barry.
What has always stunned me about Barry's scores is how it almost stops sounding like an orchestra. Space March is such a dynamic, haunting piece. All the instruments are layered in a way that both obscures & melds them. It's extraordinary. You can still pick out instruments but there's so many delicate layers where the tape distortion & reverb fight that you just end up mesmerized by it. I also think that the director/producer team of Cubby & Harry pushed Barry beyond his limits more often than not! They wouldn't shy away from rejecting material if they didn't think it was good enough! Which they did with YOLT. But Barry often commented that he used to like having a "Big Cheese" & that "at least you know where you stand". He used to rise to the challenge & come back with a masterpiece like this! The film industry now is so petrified into making anything original, different, slower paced, or simplified. They get so caught up in fads, trends, & cgi status that the music, atmosphere, & dialog just get lost. It's really sad but I can accept it quite easily - seeing how badly we've fucked everything else up! lol
1) Go check when the next ISS pass will be over your head (e.g. with heavens above) 2) Go outside just before you should start seeing it 3) Play this song while watching that bright star containing six astronauts pass overhead 4) Awesomeness!
A lot of critics have dismissed the new James Bonds as resembling the Bourne trilogy too much. I love both franchises and i do see the similarities between Daniel Craig's Bond and Damon's Bourne.....ie fight scenes, camera work etc. I think one of the things that made the classic Bond films so good was their elaborately produced music, such as this piece. Bond could reclaim some individuality if it were to bring back full-blown orchestra sets for it's soundtrack.
100%. I think Craig's films, especially the third one, have moved away from Bourne a bit (i rlly dont like Bourne that much in terms of action) and given us larger action set pieces and more of the majestic action filming style of Bond.
Issue I had was they turned Bond into a generic action hero. Zero wit, charm, humour just another punchy punchy, sweaty man. He comes across more like a Doorman for a London night club than a sophisticated ex-Naval officer.
These two movements are likely the most dynamic and impactful pieces Mr. Barry created for the Bond movies. "Capsule in Space" had the theater on the edge of its seats, though they already knew dreaded outcome of the scene; then this incredibly hard-driving masterpiece escorted the planes into Fort Knox, as a threat mounted over our Nation. On that night, I was amazed at and mesmerized by what was unfolding, until an older lady some 4-5 seats over clutched her husband's arm, and blurted out "Ohhhh God" and buried her head, as the soldiers dropped like flies. For maybe 1.5 seconds, angst overcame hundreds of watchers, who didn't CARE that it was only a movie ..... precisely what Mssrs. Saltzman, Broccoli, and Barry wanted .....
Evocative, moving, thrilling, captivating and perfectly captures the mood and tone of deep space and all the mysteries therein. The space theme has moved since I first heard it as a child. and till this day more than 30years later it has lost none of its power. John Barry was a god amongst men and film music composer par excellence.
Fantastic now as the scores and incidental music were the first time round. I was hooked on JB from the aged of 8, John Barry was and is the cherry on the cake. Number One musical hero with Bernard Herrman second.
This brings to mind the "Dawn Raid" visual, where our soldiers were collapsing under the gas ... to see it now is amusing. But I do happen to remember when I saw Goldfinger at the theater, with a packed house on the film's opening night. When this incredible John Barry piece was playing out, the planes flying overhead, and our guys dropping like flies, there was a loud gasp, then a complete silence in the theater, then someone said "NO !!!" in disbelief. Now THAT is film making, kids !
How does one begin to sum up John Barry's genius ? I remember being transfixed by his music in the Bond films from seeing my first one On Her Maj's Secret Service on its release in 1970 when I was all of 6. I still love it as much now - can you claim that of anything else you liked at that age !?
Jonh Barry, the master of underwater and space themes. Loved space march since i was a kid. very nice chord progression. thx for uploading another version of it, i only knew the O.S.T. version...unfortunetaly the timing (drum) around 4:00-4:20 is a little screwed. But your mix isnt that "badly done" at all...
Barry along with Maurice Binder ( the title creator) for the 60s &70s Bond movies, were Mastercraft men! Thank you Ian, Sean, Albert, Harry, Barry, Q, M, and the rest. May you and All the diseased Bond girls rest in peace!
Listen to Michael Giacchino's "Kronos Unveiled" from The Incredibles soundtrack after listening to Capsule in Space. Most of the score to that movie was an homage to John Barry.
John Barry's space scores (Bond OSTs + The Black Hole) are so peculiar because they depict space as this romantic but deadly place. Most composers either romanticize the space or depict it as a horrible place to be, only John Barry threads that narrow pathway of depicting both beauty and danger of space at the same time.
When the general public realizes how intertwined the U.S. space program and military are, they may not be prepared to contemplate what hardware is sitting up in the heavens.
This track PERSONIFIES timeless. I'm glad to see that people know whats up and either like or go away. I"m glad someone took the time to post this track online. To OTHER people find your ZEN, chill and just listen to this while letting your imagination roam. If you will do so you will understand the bliss this track provides. Its more than Bond to me its "FOR ME." Thanx a million altern8z.
Oh thank you! I have a new addiction: may make NO sense to you- but I haven't been this excited since the new Static-X album was released last July... I may be the only human to put Static-X and John Barry in the same level of enjoyment...🤘😬🤘
Ohh mann...I had no idea how much that statement meant til now... this the elusive - what I call "Bond Chords"... that NOONE- my beloved NIN comes close... but NOONE capture these feels- and it is SO hard to find this full piece -not a 2:44 clip... I support this statement.
excellent score and I think the mixing is not bad at all: it could be almost a classic suite with tree parts. the first two are connected by the same key & harmonies; the third is the dramatic climax (and btw the key and a specific fragment remind of the "Goldfinger" theme :) )
"Mixed badly"? Quite the contrary, my friend. This is the BEST version of the "Raid on Fort Knox" that I've found on CZcams. Everything else sounds great as well. Keep up the good work:).
I agree that the earlier Bond films were better. The winning formula is a combination of action packed and hypnotic awe inspiring musical scores, such as the Space March. Bond must be able to show he is ruthless and tough - a job that Daniel Craig does very well, credit to him. The other secret to their success is subtle clever humour which is missing from modern Bond films, it made the difference. As suggested to me, the Bond films should have stopped when they were at their best.
oh no u misunderstood me, of course its the track itself, the orchestra, drummer or conductor who screws, and of course it has nothing to do with you. No, you just deserve thx for bringing up these takes, proving taste. Cheers
There will never be another John Barry. There’s a popular film composer doing a decent imitation of him, but hearing the similarities only makes me miss John Barry even more.
Capsule in Space and 007 and Counting are so good
The most epic song of James bond.
One of the most beautiful and haunting marches I’ve ever heard.
This is what suspense sounds like
No body writes a Bond score like John Barry..... This piece is amazing......
Take a bow Sir John Barry.... Genius level
John Barry was quite the genius.
John Barry was on another planet making these Bond soundtracks and we miss him terribly-thank God for You Tube!
"Closing fast on our vehicle. Orbit....... Identical !!!"
All units stand by for code word. Code word is imminent.
That harp really makes this track amazing!
My Favorite Movie Soundtrack of ALL James Bond,...RIP Sean Connery ✝💜💟
Seeing this scene on the big screen '67 with this stereo recording was second to none
Powerful, after over 50 years, this still sounds amazing, every time I hear this.
John Barry is genius!

"Capsule in Space" is one of my favourite pieces of music - in ANY genre - this is great music, full stop :D
same - and ‘007 and Counting’ from ‘Diamonds...’ OST is on the same level

What about the waltz in the orgy chamber in conan? That 1s beautiful aswell

There was a ride or die mentality to that generation that has simply deflated. Also, the world was a bigger place when this was composed.

2) Go outside just before you should start seeing it
3) Play this song while watching that bright star containing six astronauts pass overhead
4) Awesomeness!
The bond films were heightened by Mr Barry s stirring themes...
I am going to play this music when I enact my diabolical plan to start WW3 and take over the world.
For your plan your going to need a super high back swivel office chair and fluffy white cat.
Beautiful
John Barry was a genius

@@Cybopath Agreed. The ambition present in this score is seriously lacking in the new franchise. Oh well, I guess you can't stay on-a-top forever!
The greatest Action/Adventure series of all time deserves the greatest music.
You Only Live Twice is my fav Bond film, that score is still king.

Everytime I hear that score it takes me back to a School holiday watching the Bond movie on TV.
Tingles beneath my ears amazing

John Barry's soundtracks are always cool, especially the Bond soundtracks. Nice mix.
A true master. RIP :(
I always got a kick out of a James Bond movie that includes an outer space sequence and a John Barry score behind it!
This music bring back a time that changes arranging music that and taking it to a new level

John Barry: Grande compositor!
Simply amazing.
astronaut and capsule in space are superb pieces of music that capture the moment for which they were produced brilliantly - genius!

You can definitely hear the inspiration from this in Kronos Unveiled from The Incredibles!
Very nice indeed...its there...

I swear i hear this in a 2nd James Bond movie...
Just awesome!!

Epic. Sounds like that scene from The Incredibles where he discovers the deaths of all the other superheroes (Kronus Unveiled).
I believe they used the "Space March" template for the score in that scene. I'm glad somebody else noticed the similarities in those scores.
