Udon Thani - My First Impressions of Isan Thailand

- Guess what? I'm super excited because I'm going on a trip to Udon Thani in Thailand! 🇹🇭 It's in the Isan region, Northwest Thailand and it's my first time visiting there. I've been in Bangkok for a couple days, but now it's time for a new adventure.
I leave Bangkok really early in the morning to catch my flight to Udon Thani. I can't wait to see what this city has to offer! Will it be as busy and bustling as Bangkok, or will it have a different vibe? Will i like it? These are my first impressions.

Nong Kai on the Mekong is an hour away, a must for a bike ride and maybe a night or two:-)

Nong Khai has way more to offer than Udon Thani.

I made a sudden visit to Udon Thany 10 years ago without any plan. I decided to go with the flow. The result is that I love this city.
I'm liking the vibes of Udon. It seems slow pace and Sabai Sabai. It's exactly what I like. Thanks.

I think you're really going to like that part of Issan. Used to go to Udon alot when I lived in Vientiane. It's a great little place.

Udon Thanii is much nicer and more pleasant than the terrible Bangkok and Pattaya.
They all got pros and cons I guess.

Don Mueang used to be Thailand international airport before they built Suvarnabhumi , there was a cheap food court up on the top floor or 4th floor as I remember.

Haha.. When I got to Udon the first time I had to find out if there actually was a Nutty Park.. 😁 It was right across the road from my hotel, and was where a lot of the farangs hung out. The railway station is worth a visit, took a lot of photos. The bus from Mo Chit to Don Mueang used to be the only way, these days there is also the new Red Line. Bus is still better though.. Incidentally the Rocket Festival in Isan should be around second week of May. I'd like to be able to make it up there for that one of these years.. probably would have to rent a car to get out to one of the launch sites. Check out the tuk-tuks. Very different compared to Chiang Mai or Bangkok ones.

Udon is a bike city, right up your alley. The only things I like in Udon is Dose Factory and the people, have a blast!
Yes, it's great for riding . Probably one of the best places I've been for riding.
Nice find! Looks pretty laid back for just over 100k population. You'll have to check out the night market and try some of the street food.

I read that a good vegetarian restaurant in Udon Thani is Barn-Naa Cafe, also for Thai food Samuay & Sons. Don't know how expensive they may be but they were rated among top five restaurants in Udon Thani. Hope smoke isn't too bad. Be safe man.

visit Nong Khai from Udon, Nong Khai is across to Vientiane of Laos, In Nong Khai also visit Tha Bo nice little quiet town. Cheers!

Hey Wayne, Udon Thani is on one cities to visit before settling down somewhere. What is your honesty opinion about Udon versus Kanchanaburi which one do you think is better to retire? Both cities look very interested but I would appreciate your input. Thanks again, Bob
That's difficult to answer for someone else mate. I would check both of them out for a while. Udon is probably more suited to my preferred lifestyle, not much happening, just a city with not to much going on. Kanchanaburi is much the same, but it has a magic about it. Cheers Bob

I wanted to visit Udon Thani when I was in Bangkok, in your last vid you walked by my hotel (twice) and now you are in UT, I don't even have to leave my couch, just log in to your channel, happy travels mate.
Nothing to do or see, don’t bother.
Udon seems like a good place to get away from it all. Not much to do by the looks of it. Nice place to chill for a while though.

Udon is a big town. Guess 500000 inhabitans. What I missed there is a public swimming pool or hall. No danceclub has reopened either. The beaties work in the tourist places on the coast. I got borred quickly in that town. Central Plaza and Prayak Park are great

You went the wrong way. If your going to DMK, take the mrt from term8nal 21 and get of at bang sue and take the srt directly to the airport

My first impression it's cheaper less chaos but very quiet for my taste and boring after a few days.
I think you've described it perfectly. Doesn't seem like alot to do here, but I kinda like that.

I waited for a refund for air Asia for 6 months during COVID . I got it back in the end. Udon is a cool place 👍
