  • This might be the most loaded buick park ave ever. My mind gets blown every day, scrap is at a vary low price right know and cars like this still get brought in. I have never seen a buick this full of options before. I think some one at the dealer got a little carried away filling out the order form.

I've only ever done it once and I really regret it, granted the body was absolutely rooted on it, but the old VT Commodore was the most reliable car I ever owned, only reason I scraped it was because it broke a battery terminal and I bought a 4x4 I needed for work at the time (and always wanted) for ridiculously cheap

Hi, I used to work at one of the factories that made this car for GM in Wentzville Missouri! We also made the Pontiac SSEi that you're talking about , they were both built on the same platform. I used to go walk down the final assembly line and sit in these and just dream about owning one, they were so gorgeous brand new! I was finally able to buy a used 87 Park Avenue in the 1990s and loved it.
    Long live General Motors!

The 1988-1991 Pontiac Bonneville sse then 1992-up was ssei because 92-up cars had a supercharged 3800 V6’s in them and I would have sold this car has/had lots of life left in it and it was missing the sunroof that’s the box they didn’t check off most likely for dealer Credit off the msrp and I would so buy this car but it’s most likely gone 😭

Back in 2000, I bought a 1988 Park Avenue. That was the single best car I ever owned. Bought it from the son of its first owner, and it drove like a dream. Had leather, air suspension, and all the other goodies. I took that car on so many road trips, and it never gave me a single complaint. Yes, these were gorgeous brand new. I think I preferred the velour interior over. leather, but other than that, out of the 20-some cars I've had over the years, that is the one I genuinely miss. Should never have traded it in.

I'd buy that car in a heartbeat beat, had an 88 brown one, and it was an absolute cherry, Great cars that will go forever if properly maintained, the hood that opens backwards like the Corvette is my favorite feature, these were notorious for having bad crank position sensors, a simple worthwhile fix, this is a close rival for the sedan de ville, seeing as how Cadillac lost their way when they went to the 32 valve deathstarr, only thing missing is the sunroof, this would be worth putting back on the road

Back in early 2008, I bought a gold 1990 Park Ave Ultra, optioned out similarily - rims, VERY comfy leather seats (with ALL of those controls), Delco-Bose stereo (didn't work though), and so on. The only differences that come to mind, I didn't have the digital dash in mine - but I did have a working sunroof that didn't leak! It was a great car, very reliable, and it was only $800 Canadian.
OMG I forgot, it had a 'mobile' phone, corded, that had it's own stand on the hump in the floor, AND it's own antenna on the back window, AND the thing WORKED!

Buick had the membrane touch HVAC as far back as 83 on my fathers Park Avenue. The problem facing these 30+ year old GM C-Body Electra Park Avenue's is that they simply aren't interesting. They're downsized, FWD boxes, with a bunch of doodads slapped on. They weren't bad cars (3800 and 4T60 transmissions were solid), but they weren't good cars either. Structurally, the first-gen C-car unibody wasn't exactly a stiff chassis, so they were softly sprung, handled poorly but also didn't have the road isolation that the old body-on-frame predecessors provided.
But the biggest problem is the frumpy, lame when it was new (and I was 15 when this thing rolled off the assembly line - it featured very lame) styling. GM trying to downsize their formal big-car rooflines and 3-box designs into squished FWD form, where the proportions were all wrong. Festooned with goofy gimmicks like pillar accent lights, landau rooves, tons side cladding, these tacky looking turds were only one step removed from Chrysler's idiotic looking K-car "luxury" errors (e.g. K-car based Imperial and Dynasty). I wouldn't want to be seen in one of these in 1989, and I definitely wouldn't want to drive one today.
In contrast, I'd gladly have been seen in a 91, and I'd have no problem rolling in some well maintained example of the 91-96 Park Ave nowadays. The second gen C-car platform used in the 91 Park Avenue, was substantially improved (structurally), and the exterior styling of the 91 model is still, 31 years later, absolutely gorgeous. While not without its flaws, the 91-96 Park Avenue was vastly superior, and is, all things considered, probably a high-water mark for the Park Avenue nameplate, whereas the 85-90 was probably the low-water mark.
So yeah, I can't really shed any tears for this dumpy looking piece of 1980's GM mediocrity, crush it into a cube and call it a day.
