This is great. Your video of the "early" is what I too-often see of myself now. Painful to see the resemblance. I do also see the monkey thing you talk about as well. I recently had a lesson with Tim Arsenault and he noticed that my attempts to really hit with my bottom hand were making my forward cast very jerky and killing my tempo. So now my focus is less to get the bottom hand doing all the work, but more towards being smooth. I find this requires me to use my top hand a little for control, as you noted. Great stuff, this really does help out a lot!
From using single hand rods, its best not to engage the wrist until late in the casting motion. Thus going with a longer arch firstly from elbow to hand, then flick it in the end. Using the upper hand push together with the lower hand ONLY late in the 2 handed cast would simulate the wrist flick from one handed casting. This will result in the most efficient 2 handed cast.
are there any downsides of being too bottom hand dominant? when, if there is a situation, a top hand cast desirable? what are your thoughts on 50/50 dominance? great video Tim!
Thanks Vincent. For me it seems that Rods that are soft or bend a lot require more top hand. Also longer lines require more top hand for me. 50 50 might be right for certain line lengths on rods that bend a particular way. Thanks for the support!
Sorry to be critical but you are still using top hand too much. I learned by over exagerating keeping top hand still. THEN drift the tip down if you want after the high stop. My 2 cents. 😊
Great video as always Tim.

Thanks Sam! Great input. Tim is a great caster and obviously a wonderful instructor!
Awesome video again. Would make much more sense on the right side of the river though.
Good call! Just trying to get the line going out against the back drop
Haha, sorting it out makes for confusion, until a higher understanding is achieved, thats learning😅
So true!

Excellent! Thanks for the tip!
