Funny I saw someone comment on a random rock reaction video yesterday that you should never (NEVER he typed) listen to a live version of any band ever (EVER!). The comment was highly upvoted, and no one challenged this sentiment. I was dumbfounded. You can't beat a good live version (you know, assuming the band can pull it off).
The Warning however can always pull it off - and is in fact - always better live, so I'll just say NEVER react to a studio version for a song with a proshot video.

@@dadwhatsfordinner I take back the 'never listen to a studio version', obviously speaking in absolutes like that is for fools. But with The Warning I would say that I stand by it - live is always best.
Most bands studio work is superior to their live performances, sometimes for understandable reasons that are often outside their control. But I'm with you, watching a band live - in their prime, with that glint in their eye - is always more moving, even if you lose some of the polish.
I've only seen your two The Warning videos so far, but I'll say you're doing it right, I appreciate your easy-going and and no BS approach. I can tell you are genuinely digging what you're hearing, and that means a lot to us old rock fans, regardless of the band. I'll be checking out more of your content for sure.

The one thing I wish they'd do is to use Ale's intro on the bass to start the concert rather than Intro 404, particularly when they open with Dust to Dust, as they sometimes do. Intro 404 is the one thing they've done that I think is a throwaway. That bass solo is superb, and would be fantastic live.
I'm going to add a rec for Animosity live at Teatro Metropolitan in Mexico City last August. It's not really possible to describe how good it is.

You're not an idiot bro, you're a soon to be fan of The Warning. It just means you have an eye for talent and an appreciation for passion. These girls are the most unlikely yet undeniable saviours of rock music. Only a true fan of the genre can appreciate them, they're like a litmus test. Their fans are primarily old-school rock fans who often had lost interest in - and hope for - the genre. They've re-lit that hope for us.
They have so many bangers left to discover. As with all bands, I always wonder how deep their pile of gold is - I've yet to find the bottom for The Warning. And they keep stacking more on top.

@@robertkrawitz8237 My comment was a little wild-eyed in hindsight. I was just happy to see someone genuinely being moved by the band, and just let my fingers fly. It was sloppy improvisation, and I hit a few bad notes, you know?
What I meant to say was that someone who is moved by the band so quickly is probably going to be someone who will love straight forward hard rock music. There is nothing obviously impressive about the band - no big stage show, no epic arrangements, no flashy techniques - it's just good hard rock. And real recognizes real, as the saying goes.
It's not that only a true fan of rock could love the band, or that you aren't a true fan if you don't like them. It's just that if you do like them, you may in fact have the heart of a true fan.
I know it's not that deep, but I just wanted to clarify my statement a bit. We're all just fans having fun loving rock music. S'all good man.

@@johnmacleod9507 I hate to hijack any comment section about The Warning and divert people's attention elsewhere, but if you've not heard the song 'Hi Ren' I would very much recommend giving it a couple of listens.
The song has nothing in common with The Warning, to be clear, but it is one of the most impressive lyrical and performative pieces I've ever heard - it's a live performance which is not necessarily obvious at first glance.
The song is a landmark moment in music history imo, and needs to be heard. It's very moving, and has inspired more contemplation from me than any other work of art has, in such a short time.

This album, _Queen of the Murder Scene,_ is a concept album which tells the story of a disturbed young woman's inner journey from desire to obsession to murder and madness. The songs are told from the point of view of either the young lady's inner psychopath or her good side, which has a conscience - until it does not.
'Dust to Dust' is a funeral, and the Queen invites you in to hear her story. 'Crimson Queen' is the next song.

I'm new to the band, and while I love the live versions of these older classics, I've never paid any attention to the lyrics. I know this is the opening track to a concept album about an obsession turned to murder; but they were teenagers, and a concept album is a very tall order for any band. I didn't think I would have any interest in it as a grown man.
But I just pulled up the lyrics to this song, and it's follow up track Crimson Queen, and all I can say is wow. I don't know why I keep underestimating this band - they never fail to impress me - but I didn't think they could hit the mark here. Like I said - a concept album is a tall order - but these opening lyrics are very well-written and have more depth than I would have thought on first glance. It's poetry man.
And English is not their primary language. I'm blown away by them every time. For instance:
Now, take it in and behold
I don't seek right or wrong
I seek the truth found in death
It goes hand in hand with remorse
Is it something that is worth losing?
    Worth pursuing?
That's as beautiful as it is crazy. Pau just sang that and I had no idea, no idea that what she was singing was so poetic. I'm not usually a lyric guy, but I'll have to become one with this band.

    • @squireman123
      @squireman123 Před rokem +5

Yes, Justin. The Warning's lyricism (usually penned by Pau) are one of their strong suits. For all songs, really, they have a message. For songs off of Queen of The Murder Scene, each tune builds on the one before it to tell an over-arching story. A concept album is absolutely a tall order, and easy to mess up. They succeeded big-time. Worth watching the videos in the proper order with the lyrics nearby. I'm a fan of when they debuted this album live, which are the Lunario CDMX videos, found on The Warning's CZcams.

They are wise far beyond their years. Check out the lyrics for "When I'm Alone" that 15yo Dany wrote while she attended a 5-week music school in New York. She was desparately homesick, and was under the gun to write a song for a presentation (the next day I believe):
      Opening:
Full of color on the outside
But I only see in black and white
      I'm desperate for some light
In the corners of my mind
      Having hope but not enough
Reaching out to find no one
Am I the only soul to have lost all control?
      Closing:
      Nobody understands
My sanity's not going to last
And I'll smile on through the night
      Everyone will think I'm alright
But nobody knows what I'm dragging along when I'm alone

@@LesDexia13 Yeah, that's amazing. I've seen the Ted Talk show and so have heard the song, but I had no idea the lyrics. I just assumed it's basic teen angst material, but that's both beautifully inspired and well-written.
I'm new to the band - just got my three week chip! - but have grown to really appreciate the whole band, in every aspect. Dany is a very sweet, wise, and strong girl. I learned this from the video in which she talks about the loss of her friend. It was very moving.
Knowing that those are her lyrics, and that they are as strong as anything Pau could write, is good to know. I never gave Dany enough credit, so thanks for that. Peace.

    • @justinatest9456
      @justinatest9456 Před rokem +2

To add to my original comment regarding Dust To Dust and it's lyrics - they are not just poetic and pretty, they offer a lot of narrative value, but are not clunky or awkward, as can often be the case.
In a single song we learn that a death has already occurred, and that we are looking back at it after the fact. We know that the accused is trying to procaim her innocence - or to justify herself - to an unwilling listener, who wants nothing to do with her.
It is made clear that the accused is unhinged - which is done both through the lyrics, as well as in Pau's delivery of them. It's a really impressive song. Pau is a poet.
I think I just need to write a book about it at this point.
