  • Tony Blair was not "straight with the nation" about his decisions in the run up to the Iraq War, the chairman of the inquiry into the war has told the BBC.
Speaking for the first time since publishing his report a year ago, Sir John Chilcot discussed why he thinks the former PM made those decisions.
He said the evidence Mr Blair gave the inquiry was "emotionally truthful" but he relied on beliefs rather than facts.
A spokesman for Mr Blair said "all these issues" had been dealt with.
In a wide-ranging, exclusive interview with the BBC's political editor Laura Kuenssberg, Sir John also talked about Mr Blair's state of mind during the inquiry and his relationship with the then US President George W Bush in the build-up to the 2003 conflict.

Either we were lied too or leaders were totally incompetent ,those are the only conclusions ...somebody should be held accountable for all of the killings of innocent people ...

Opposite of 'straight' is none other than the word 'crooked'. i learnt this poetry in Primary School "once there was a crooked man who walked a crooked mile...he lived in a crooked house with a crooked smile..."

Tony Blair is an outstandingly honest man, an altruistic politician who only ever worked in the best interests of the British people and the wider world. He deserves every penny he has earned and so does his saintly wife and wonderful children. I admire the way he gracefully left office and his humble behaviour since, especially in his brave and selfless attempts to secure everlasting peace in the middle east. Now, can I have my meds please nurse and another packet of crayons as well, I'm hungry.

who sent you ? the guy lied through his filthy teeth, you are just being disingenuous and extremely insensitive to the lost of life, but the English has a history deceit, lies, broken treaties, land theft, genocide, murder, raping of people (men, women & children) and lands...even this guy is only concerned about the reputation of the UK, not the lives lost. They got what they wanted, control of the Iraqi peoples oil. Despicable.

Also, let's say that for instance the UN DID provide the resolution for the war (from what I know, they actually DID provide it in the first Gulf War of 1991), and that the whole Weapons of Mass Destruction matter really WAS true, would there have been far less casualties then in the war especially on the side of the Iraqi civilian population? And would Tony Blair STILL be as despised by his own people as he is today, with many demanding, however rightly, that he is a war criminal who should face life imprisonment and whatnot? Or would he, and George W Bush by larger extension, then be seen as heroes in most of the world's eyes?
Maybe they could have also devised more peaceful means of getting rid of Saddam Hussein, who many say was very much a mass murderer and human rights violator on a major scale, and not intentionally or otherwise, put civilians in harm's way?
But it all turns out that the government lied intentionally and did it all for oil? And that however wrong Saddam Hussein was, in the process, Bush and Blair for the invasion turned out to be just as if not more wrong. Two wrongs don't make it right, and the other wrong turned out to be just as much if not more wrong.

Its also that many people DO criticize the first Gulf War as well, and it also had many dead victims among the civilian population and it is debated among many that the American government also started it in bad faith and not for noble intentions and that it was also in away oil and gas related, but at least for one unlike the Second Iraq war, it wasn't outright "illegal" and allegedly based on total lies.

Problem is narcissists with delusions of grandeur about their own worth and purpose on earth who overate their own intelligence and perceptions, plus a system which gives far too much power to a few and nowhere near enough accountability.
