Aha! That "Y" cable to the USB dongle was the missing piece for my Xeigu G90 connection for WSJT-X. THANK YOU!! I whipped one up with an old audio cable and two of the three cables that came with the CE19. Finally getting audio under control via the USB device rather than the darn laptop speakers. Glad you held the sheet still long enough for me to copy down the schematic. Thanks again for the very useful video.

Thanks for the help on this. I soldered up the 3 cables that came in the CE-19 box and found a USB sound card I must have bought and forgot I did and am going to try FLRig and WSJT-X. 73!!

Thanks so much for your tutorial. It's a shame Xiegu doesn't print their instructions in American english. All of the words are english, unfortunately something is definitely lost in translation, not to mention there doesn't seem to be nomenclature that is commonly accepted here in the US. Your step by step instructions are most helpful. You shouldn't have "buried the lead" though...save a lot of headache and buy the ready-made splitter. Thanks Man!

Thanks again for the tutorial. I broke down and purchased a ring/tip splitter, (the one pictured), and I'm stumped. The audio extension cords are only sleeve and tip. Does the soundcard only accept/recognize/require sleeve/tip? The Xiegu supplied 3.5mm plugs are tip/ring/sleeve. When I constructed the pigtail out of the three supplied plugs I spliced the wires so as to have the two soundcard (male) plugs mimic the C19 breakout box, that is, one plug is tip and sleeve, the other plug is ring and sleeve. If I use the "store bought" version the two soundcard side plugs only having tip and sleeve, (mono?). So…Is it cool that the tip and ring coming from the C19 be connected to the sleeves and tips of the input to the sound card, (as is the case of the store bought version)? FWIW I took your "shopping advice" and purchased the splitter with the integral extension cord, but returned them because of the sleeve/tip only configuration. In retrospect, I see that this is the same configuration of the separate splitter and extension cords. D’oh! 73

@@HamRadioNewb Well, I'm a dumbass. After my long winded question I didn't mention that I don't want to "blow up" my radio so I did not test the setup with the store bought wire set. The pigtail that I made using your excellent presentation seemed to work. I say seemed because I'm not positive that I have FLRIG and JS8Call properly configured for my Xiegu G90. test cat works, test xmit works, but if I go to FLRIG>CONFIG>SETUP>TRANSCEIVER, the green "Connected" light never turns green, it's just an open diamond.
In your tutorial, did you terminate both sound card plugs as sleeve/tip. I don't have a clue how to check continuity going from a 3mm plug through a USB device, (sound card). IDK if that's even possible.
Sorry to be so dense. I'm new to the hobby. Your presentations are most helpful because you walk through all of the steps. Other videos jump around, skip steps, or otherwise edit out critical steps, assuming the viewer has a vast background in radio/computers/electronics. I'm no ham genius, but I am a good instruction follower.

@@Brewerbill no worries, I also have a video for wsjtx on the pc side, that may be of use. The setup I initially made with the supplied cables was shown in one of the diagrams. After awhile I switched to the tip ring splitter and 2 generic 3.5mm cables.
Just wanted to say thanks, I really wish they would have just provided a proper cable with the CE-19 but I really like this as a clean solution that won't fall apart.

Thanks for the video. Good explanation of the flow. But I need help on the wiring of the Xiegu provided cables, please. Each cable provided has 3 wires; red, black, and white. Which is tip, ring sleeve? How do I know which color to connect with wire from other cable? Thanks in advance.
I unfortunately no longer have one laying around. If I recall correctly though Red was Ring, White was Tip, and Black was Sleeve. Black should for sure be sleeve.
Do you have a multimeter? You could set it to the continuity setting to test which wire goes to what part of the 3.5mm end. If your multimeter doesn't have continuity you can use resistance. Hold one lead from the multimeter on the 3.5mm jack, and look for the wire with a 0 ohm reading.
I will do a video series eventually with basics for electronics tools.

If you aren't as comfortable wiring up cables I would strongly recommend the alternative I have in the video description. The cable only runs 8 dollars and would work right out of the box with no issues.

@@HamRadioNewb I do have the cable on order from Amazon, however it wasn't a Prime item and delivery window is ridiculous. Something like Jan 04 to Jan 18. So thought I'd give the wiring a try & learn something new.
@@HamRadioNewb I'll give it a try and see what happens. With the current collection of random audio cables I have I can receive fine but have no TX, so I'd like to try and wire the OEM cables together for an experiment.

A while back I watched and followed your info on the wiring cable and did so on my xiegu g90; I must say everything worked first time. All parts used supplied with the radio except the usb sabrent and into my raspberry pi 4. Thanks for the help.

The interface kit appears to have the extra long 1/8 stereo plugs included. I assume those fit the key jack for paddles correct? The jack is recessed so standard plugs don’t reach. I bought a used 5105 and it was missing the cables and plugs.
Hi, it's been quite a long time since making the video! But if you run follow along and have the ce19 kit you should have what you need. HRO has the ce 19 kit.
Xiegu has also released the de19 now that might be easier for you.

Is the an 8V and ALC switch on your CE-19 like the 1 page instruction shows? I don't see that switch. Do you see it? The instruction shows the switch is off by default, not connected to the expansion interface 6 pin-Midi (connect XPA125 interface) and can be turned on if the 2 signals are needed. A bit confusing.
I did not have to make any adjustments. I have since sold the ce 19 and xiegu. I do have the xpa125 to use with my 705 now though!

Good and clear video! But I have a question: Why did you choose to connect AF_IN to the tip of the headphones and not to ring of the headphones? As far as I know, one is for left channel the other for the right one. Is there a reason to privilege one of them? Thank you in advance.
Yes, the microphone needs the signal on the tip for the pc side
Sorry I misread your question, for the audio going to the radio, it doesn't matter. I just drew them up that way.

Thanks for a video that two other sites couldn't explain. I noticed that the ready made audio cable has two mono jacks to go to the sound card. If the mono jacks work why do the in and out wires land on different cores on the two stereo plugs that go to the external sound card?
It's just how I wrote it up when I made the diagram for myself

I bought the ring tip splitter and when I run ft8, it works for a couple times and then gets stuck in TX. Any ideas?

I did really love and appreciate this for making data mode so easy on my CE-19. I'm pretty sure you don't have it but I'm trying to figure out how to make the 3.5mm plug on the other side for PTT trigger my PAX100 amplifier. If you have a moment it would be greatly appreciated.
I see it has the same same ring and tip so I can get a cable for that but not sure how to convert it that small white plug with two wires. I'm hoping there is cable somewhere I can use to convert that to the headphone jack cable and be good on digital to 100 watts.

@@HamRadioNewb Thanks, I have been doing some digging and I think I found the connector on amazon so I'm going to grab it and it should be in tomorrow. The big question which might be easier for you to help, is what color on the included 3.5mm jacks is ring, which one is tip, and which one is ground. According to PAX100 diagram the left wire is PTT, and right one ground. Just going off the colors of the ring and tip splitter I bought with this setup, red is ring and black is tip but I was hoping to confirmation. If that's the case, I'm looking at combining their red wire to the left side wire on the PAX100 being Red (sleeve) on the 3.5mm to left on PAX, and white (ground) to the right wire on the PAX100. Not sure if I made that easy to follow, but I appreciate your help and think I'm most of the way here to making it work with data modes.
Are you using talking about the pigtail cable that came with the ce19? Do you have a multimeter?
@@HamRadioNewb Yeah, I'm talking three 3.5mm headphone jacks with the three wires in them that comes with the CE-19 kit. I couldn't find a guide online that definitely told me what color wire of the red, white and black was ring, tip and ground. I do believe I have a multimeter somewhere. I can dig it up if that can help me with it.
@@bradleyfrizzell9710 it should be red as ring, white as tip and black as sleeve. I would suggest utilizing the multimeter if you can to confirm. It’s been awhile since I played with those. Switch to continuity if you have it or ohms. Using ohms look for the reading showing zero.
Thanks very much for the idea. However, I'm having a very hard time finding a tip/ring splitter - on ebay or amazon. Could you please tell us where you found your splitter. A brand name and/or part number would also be a help.

@@johnvilagi4037 It goes as follows ce-19 > tip ring splitter > 2 3.5mm audio cables > sabrent usb sound card. I will try and provide links to the items I used tonight and will update you here when I get those.
I have included links, the original tip ring splitter I used is no longer available. I have included an alternative I think should work in place of it and allow you to skip using the additional 3.5mm jumpers.

With your setup, are you able to route the spoken audio from the handheld microphone through the CE-19, into a computer for digital tweaking or further compression, then back into the radio/CE-19 to be transmitted on the air?

No, it is just to trigger ptt on an external device such as an Amp. You could potentially make a breakout board to make it work, I'd suggest sticking to the stock mic though if you can.

I would suggest just skipping the signal link. This interface is so much less expensive and pretty easy to do.
@@HamRadioNewb I already own the Signalink. Also, the internal wiring for the Signalink is exactly the same as my Yaesu radios so it will be universal. How are you handing the PTT? VOX?
@@dennisschultz1175 your radio should have come with a com cable, that will handle the ptt. I have an additional video on the computer side that shows more info

What do you mean? This can be used for digital modes such as Ft8 winlink etc
