  • This video on the Cabin Creek Muzzleloading bench copy of a rifle reputed to belong to the famous frontiersman Lewis Wetzel, was part of my series on the Contemporary Longrifle Association show in 2017. But I thought it deserved to stand on its own.
So, if you're a fan of longrifles, or a fan of Lewis Wetzel...or both, you may like this short video.

I grew up in Wheeling W.Va area and remember the history of Lewis Wetzel. It’s nice to see something that could be related to the history of the area. When I was a kid, my stepfather knew a guy that had a small collection of flint locks made in Wheeling and the surrounding area. It was amazing to see as a young boy.

Hey I live in Wetzel County, WV, I believe it’s named after him

This is a very nice rifle.
I had never heard of Lewis Wetzel until I read a book by Allan W. Eckert. He was an amazing frontiersman, along with Kenton and Brady.

Wow 52 inches I have a Early Lancaster rifle from TVM that is 42 inches I have hit gong's at 300 yards no tall tail. That said that long rifle is a work of art. I enjoy your videos and the information that you gave is also tops, Keep up the great work.

The original rifle was buried with him at Rosetta, Mississippi. His family members eventually after years came and dug up his remains and returned them back up north.

If that was Wetzel's he left it with his minister friend. The caliber he shot in the days at Ft Henry was a 32. I have a copy of the ministers book you referred to as well.
