- In this episode we go on an adventure to see if Bruce can find his firt Dual Sport Bike. We run into some issues that we did not expect and do a detailed "once over" to try and assess the value of this Yamaha WR250R. We put together a list of rationale as to why we made the decision we made on this particular bike.
We cover:
10:45 rusty chains and sprockets
11:30 Tires - Moose foam tubes
11:53 Brakes and brake pads
12:45 Checking Oil
13:11 Leaky Fork Seals
13:45 engine leaking oil
16:00 Exhaust Leaks
16:57 Neck or stem bearing check
17:15 Listening for valve train noise
18:25 Checking if the bike is in Kilometers or Miles - huge difference
22:00 Checking for clutch slip and engine response
23:00 Shifting through the gears while stopped - goes into neutral easily.
23:50 Summary of what we found
The whole time: Damage from drops and falls - rust
This all takes place in realtime, shot on my iphone (besides for the places I do voiceover stuff for more detail). The location is in the lower mainland of British Columbia, Canada.
I'm sure there are things i've missed, hit the comments for things you think we should have included and we'll do a better job next time :).
Bruce is coming from riding a Moto Guzzi V7iii so this is a whole new world for him.
This is the best used bike buying video I’ve ever seen! That’s great that you give all your considerations, all your real life thinking about all the issues with this bike, again best video I’ve seen for buying a used dirtbike. That’s perfect that you give all your thoughts as you drive away in the truck, this is real life, not staged and appreciate what you guys did.
Thank you so much for the kind comment! I'm always just being me, so hopefully that comes through. Thanks Karl!
I just happened upon this video (late to the party). This was one of the most entertaining and informative used bike buying videos I’ve seen. You guys are obviously close friends and it shows. I just recently purchased a 2020 WR250R and couldn’t be happier with it. That said - this particular example you guys looked at was TRASHED and definitely needed valves as it sounded totally different than my WR (I could hear the “pinging” on your iPhone). You were smart to walk away. I looked at 5 different ones before finding a screaming deal on my 2020 with 1500 miles. Great video - thanks!
Hey! Thanks so much for the kind words Charles! I’ve got a lot of plans for this kind of video this year. Hopefully they will continue to provide good value and keep getting better! Cheers mate!
I’d buy my wr a 1000 times over again. Perfect bike for my adventure Moto needs. Maybe down the road I’d go with a bigger bike as I go for further distances.
Forgot to check to see if the swingarm was eatin by the chain. You probably cant tell though, because it was caked.
I would walk away!!!! There is no telling what is not being said to y’all. Be patient and y’all will fine a lot nicer bike. Don’t try and justify the purchase. And I agree why would you not at least wash your bike before you try and sell it.
For sure man! Too much risk, not enough reward.
That would have to pay me to take it
Man, that bike was the textbook definition of 'rode hard and put away wet'. Hard pass, unless he came down a grand lol. Even then, he's lying about the mileage - so what else? I would not give this my time.
That thing is clapped out…I’d pass on it
